Strange to announce a fight before pen is put to paper

The free link I watched the fight on had 144k people on it duroing fight time.

Thats a lot of money Fwank etc did not get.. and before some arse says it - I know not all the 144K were in the uk!

Seetickets have some tickets to pre-book. Just checked the conditions though:

Once purchased, tickets cannot be transferred, exchanged, refunded or returned unless the event is cancelled, moved to another date, or if details of the event are significantly changed after an order is placed (significant changes being a change of headline act (concerts only), venue or show time).

Sounds like as soon as you buy a ticket no refunds unless the whole event is cancelled

I would say Barrera being removed from the bill constitutes as a significant change.

Bolton's Amir Khan fairly leaps on to the world stage against Mexico's inimitable Marco Antonio Barrera at the MEN Arena in Manchester on March 14.
Lightweight Khan faces one of the greatest fighting machines of all time at the arena where he was smashed in 54 seconds by unknown Colombian Breidis Prescott just four months ago. OK, the 22-year-old Khan has since dumped his trainer for American 'name' Freddie Roach and blown away an Irish cloakroom attendant by the name of Oisin Fagan, but it still seems an incredibly hasty decision to take on Barrera so soon after a shattering defeat, so soon into a three-and-a-half year career, even a supposedly 'shot' Barrera.
Barrera was beaten back-to-back by back-to-back greats Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez in 2007, both on points in 12-rounders. He returned last November and knocked out another Fagan type (who couldn't pick a pocket or two to save his life) with a liver shot in four rounds. Barrera looked chubby in his first ever fight at lightweight, every one of his 35 years, and up to the finish, pretty poor. On the evidence of one showing - on a win - Barrera is thus 'shot'. Such an assumption smacks of Thrilla' in Manila. "They said you were through, Joe."

Barrera, 64-6 (43), a pro since 1989, a former multi-weight world champion (when that term was still quite unique), represents a massive gamble for Khan and his team and would surely be favoured to outsmart the heavy handed Prescott, by way of an analogy. Interestingly, Barrera has a fight coming up in Mexico at the end of this month against decent Dominican John Nolasco. Nolasco has never been stopped in 10 years as a pro. I am old enough to remember a 'shot' Ayub Kalule coming over to face Liverpool's talented and unbeaten Jimmy Price at the Ally Pally in North London in 1984. Kalule, like Barrera, had lost to a couple of top fighters (Davey Moore and Mike McCallum) and was moving up from his established weight.
He destroyed Price inside a round.
Nevertheless, Khan, 19-1 (15), is undoubtedly bigger than Barrera, and probably faster, too. His speed and strength might surprise the visitor. He has added advantages of youth, hunger, home advantage and that man Roach, of course, who guided Pacquiao to two huge wins over Barrera. Motivation is always a biggie. Where does Barrera draw his motivation from these days? A shot at 36-year-old lightweight king Nate Campbell?
The plan must be for Khan to get on his bike and outbox the ageing, rusty, reasonably interested Barrera, as Khan cantered to a landslide decision over former world super-featherweight champion Gairy St Clair last February in London. St Clair barely landed a punch. Khan can stick and move for the full 12 rounds at a hot pace. Barrera might be too old to chase such a shadow

It looks like the plan is to beat Barrera and challenge Hatton in the near future @ 140 lbs, provided Pacquiao beats him. Or it could all just be talk.

hope its gonna go ahead i wanna go and cheer on barrerra - what a legend everyone should go just to see him in action live i dont think ill ever get such a good oppertunity again.
Barrerra can still fight cagey and put khan out of is rythem - then barrerra should figth campbell as i recon he could beat him as well

Well I was trying to say that he WILL be big box office, once he gets a couple of high profile wins. Of course that PPV was an all round disaster - Frank had no business making Khan v AN Other PPV - that was madness.
But I've been in pubs where there's zero interest in boxing, except when Khan comes on - then
everyone's watching the box, yelling for Khan or hoping he gets beat: He's well known by Joe Public, and they're interested to see what happens to him - that's what I mean by box office.

Could they be planning to throw him in with Hatton in the summer, if he beats Barrera and PacMan doesn't sign?

I'm pretty sure Pacquiao vs Hatton will go ahead. If Khan beats Barrera and Pacquiao beats Hatton then Khan vs Hatton is going to be seriously talked about.

I take it contracts haven't been signed then and I haven't heard a thing from MAB or King, may be hasty to buy tickets at this point, but on the otherhand FW credibility will be shot to pieces if it doesn't happen so maybe he is confident

I find it quite incredible that anyone is allowed to get away with imposing those terms and conditions. I mean, if you went to see Tina Turner and got sinitta you'd get your money back, why not with boxing.

Why doesnt Warren go the whole hog and announced he has secured Frankie Gavin vs Juan Manuel Marquez with Matt Skelton against King Kong on the undercard. Means about as much at this stage.

Dammit I vowed to avoid SN shows, but as Emerson says this is a last chance to see Barerra fight live.

I think the sky or pay per view question is still be decided. If a ggod undercard pay per view at 10 might be justified but on a duff card not. Also has MAB confirmed 100% for this.
