Ronald "Winky" Wright vs Shane Mosley 1+2

Wright schools Mosley over to 12 to win a UD and unify the Super Welterweight titles, he was brilliant controlled everything, ring centre, the pace and done as he pleased, peppered Mosley with the southpaw jab, right hooks around the side, the back left hand and worked the body on the inside, Mosley never had any answers and looked tight and tense looking for one big shot and the occasional flurry, he was poor in all honesty, put a couple of the middle rounds together but Wright was quickly back in control, Mosley had a good last round but far too little too late, Wright was class

Wright wins the rematch by close MD to retain his titles, another good fight and better than the first, both guys a lot more aggressive and it was a closer fight, Wright still deserved it though, he got the jab off well and worked the left hand, walked Mosley down at times and backed him up, Mosley wa able to bang to the body and get some big shots off, neither were badly hurt but both def felt each others power, Wright just bossed the fight for the majority of the rounds, another deserved win

Shane Mosley vs Fernando Vargas 1+2

Mosley stops Vargas in the 10th round of a non title Super Welterweight contest, close fight, competitve and gruelling for both men, fought pretty much all at close quarters, Mosley started off quicker getting his punches off battering Vargas up close, Vargas began to get on top in the 4th and gain momentum, after 6 it was pretty much all even and both men took turns to let the flurries go, Vargas's right eye began to swell shut in thr 8th and Mosley started targeting it with solid right hands and you knew it wouldnt go 12, Vargas still tried to fight it out but Mosley kept tattooing him with the right and after a nothing combination in the 10th the ref stepped in because of the eye

Mosley stops Vargas in the 6th round of the rematch, a more comfortable win for Mosley who won every round before the finish, Vargas was slow and sluggish, couldnt avoid the jab or right hands and was falling way behind when in the 6th Mosley clocked him with a left hook which decked him heavily, he got up on unsteady legs and Mosley barely got a combination off when the ref stepped in

Vargas was a fun guy to watch; he was in a lot of good fights like this one.
As for the Mosley-Wright rematch, it looked like Mosely was going to win this, but he he faded down the stretch. I remember having him up 5-3, but Wright won the last four rounds.

Trinidad and De la Hoya-Vargas were bona-fide boxing classics. Period.

LOL..

I mean,..he denied me an autograph 4 times......lol j/k. no I don't hate him. He put on a very courageous effort and yes it was one-sided but he was never out of the fight really, he went down with his guns blazing until the very end. and he had the power and in boxing one shot can always turn things around. It was a fun little fight. Watch it again and you'll see! :D

Anthony Mundine vs Shane Mosley

Mundine stops Mosley at the start of the 7th in a non title Super Welterweight fight, Mosley looked shot and Mundine beat him up, battered him with the jab and every shot seemed to have a noticable effect, in the 4th Mosley finally landed a punch of note rocking Mundine momentarily with a right hand but Mundine came back with a couple of rights of his own which sent Mosley scrambling to the canvas, ref wrongly never called it though, after that Mosley looked ready to go anytime without really taking any big shots, just as the 7th was starting the doc was called over to check Mosley and next thing you know its stopped, fvcked back apparantly

Azumah Nelson vs Pat Cowdell

Nelson ices Cowdell in a round to retain his World Featherweight title, benatiful left uppercut laid Cowdell flat on his back and out for the count, good pressuring from Nelson battering the body of Cowdell before uncorking the KO punch

Azumah Nelson vs Pat Cowdell
Watched this fight as a kid.......Cowdell was a big favourite in the Midlands and the local ITV station were also right behind Pat and thought he might do it. Gary Newbon ran Central Sports and was huge fight fan.

Nelson was however destructive and near-perfect...was ready-from-the-bell and and not willing to see Cowdell's skills or get himself into a points contest away from home. Saw his chance and ended-it.

Pernell Whitaker vs Azumah Nelson

Whitaker dominates Nelson over 12 rounds to retain his World Lightweight titles, elite level performance, he made Nelson look like a novice, quick, slick and elusive, just a masterclass in defence amd offense, everything came off the southpaw jab which was immense, the left hands, right hooks, body work, combination punching Whitaker had the lot, Nelson never stopped coming forward but Whitaker was too slippery and agile for him, Nelson let it all hang out in the last few rounds knowing he was a mile behind but Whitaker was still too good and done as he pleased, never stayed still all night his footwork was sublime, as i said a masterclass

Azumah Nelson vs Juan Laporte

Nelson beats Laporte by close decision to retain his World Super Featherweight title, tough night for him he didnt have it all his own way, Laporte rocked him with a big right hand in the 1st but then body slammed Nelson to the canvas so missed the opportunity for a legit knockdown, Laporte landed all the eye catching shots, dug in the lefts to he body and hooks to thr head and a few times they seemed to register, Laporte also was able to pin Nelson on the ropes and pound away

Nelson wasa lot more passive than usual, was up on his toes flicking out the jab and dancing out of danger and he nicked a few rounds, he might not have been giving a gift he probably edged more rounds, Laporte won the bigger rounds though

Jesse James Leija vs Azumah Nelson 1,2,3+4

Nelson draws with Leija over 12 to retain his World Super Featherweight title, only highlights available which is pretty shitty coz it looked a good fight, Leija was aggressive on the front foot whipping in lefts to the body and the occasional right hand, Nelson played counter puncher and worked the sharp jab, looked like he pressed Leija late on but Leija held his ground, impossible to say from highlights if draw was correct result

Leija wins the rematch by UD to become World champ, hard fought battle but a deserved won for Leija, he dropped Nelson in the 2nd with a big right and Nelson also had a point off in thr 9th for a low blow, harsh as there wasnt any warnings beforehand, Leija worked the jab, nailed Nelson with clean rights and outboxed as well as outworking Nelson for the majority, Nelson the warrior that he is never gave up without a fight and had his moments but he fought in spurts and Leija was a worthy winner

Nelson stops Leija in the 6th round of their third fight to retain his World Super Featherweight title, he fought with a lot more urgency in this fight and he dropped Leija heavily in the 1st with a monster right hand, the bell went mid count and Leija survived, Leija began to box his way back into things and was leveling things up when in the 5th Nelson burst his right eye wide open with a left hook, in thr 6th Nelson rocked the legs of Leija again with a left and Nelson was smelling blood, he was unloading on Leija when the ref stepped in, more due to the cut

Leija wins the fourth fight via UD, non title Lightweight scrap, decent enough fight, competitive but Nelson too long in the tooth to hang with Leija who won on workrate and movement, he boxed and moved all night, popping the jab out, unloading then moving out of range, Nelson was crafty and done well to block and parry a lot of Leija's work but he was being outworked, he did show cameos of his skill but wasnt busy enough in too many rounds, he did hurt Leija with a left hook at end of 4th but bell went in follow up, there wasnt much in punches landed % but as i say Leija had the output and better gameplan to see out a comfortable win in the end

Byrd v ibeabuchi

Ike was at his best. Cut the ring off well and was accurate against the slippery byrd. Larry merchant was hilarious ripping byrd for his boring style

Ike was better than i remembered

The uppercut that put byrd down is of course part of the ike legend.

Tua v byrd

Tuaman did well early hitting Byrd with hooks, but let byrd spin out of the corner and wouldnt throw right hands

Byrd peppered tua with straight lefts and pitter combinations will flicking a jab and using footwork to outsmart tua

Difference between tua and ike is that ike didnt care where he landed - he hit Byrd on his shoulders and arms. Tua seemed to wait for clean looks too much

Genaro Hernandez vs Azumah Nelson

Hernandez outboxes Nelson over 12 to become World Super Featherweight champ, was a SD but should've been a clear decision, Nelson was washed, Hernandez was up on his toes moving using his reach to great effect, popping out the jab coming over with thrle straight right, putting combinations together then moving out of range, Nelson just plowed forward eating punches, strange 7th round, Nelson put Hernandez down with a left hook to the throat right after the bell, ref took a point off straight away and Hernandez was treated for over 5 minutes before finally boxing on where he left off, when he used his legs he was schooling Nelson but when he held his feet, Nelson had pockets of success, still a clear win for Hernandez whatever the cards say

NoScoutingReports wrote: 31 Dec 2020, 18:42 Bernard Hopkins v Kelly Pavlik - BHop did a real job on Kelly, constantly getting off first while punishing the body and not allowing Pavlik to establish his jab or right hand. Really streetwise performance from Hopkins as you'd expect, holding and turning the younger man at the right time, not pretty on occasion but did the necessary to nullify a very flat, under-par Pavlik. Mad performance from BH at 43, even with Kelly injured/ill as he stated on the Joe Rogan podcast (big fan of Pavlik by the way, 2nd best on that night by a long long way however but enjoyed his work at 160 hugely).
Pavlik was sick. According to kelly if he was healthy bernard would have still kicked his ass, but he would have won a couple rounds!

Cotto-Margarito 1.

In hindsight Cotto shows incredible heart and guts to fire back against an opponent who ‘probably’ had plaster of Paris for fists.

After about the 6th round every Margarito shot seems to leave instantaneous swelling. Cotto’s face swells up very quickly.

I’ve always thought he had loaded gloves. The only question mark I have is that Margarito spends an awful lot of time in the ring afterwards with his gloves off. Also you can see the ref check the gloves beforehand.
No-one notices anything untoward.

I’m guessing it’s one we will never know the answer to 100%

Terry Norris vs John Mugabi

Norris KOs Mugabi in 1 round to become World Super Welterweight champion, rocked him with big left hook and then forced him over in the follow up, Mugabi was done should've been stopped but he managed to last over a minute grabbing and holding for dear life, he was just about finding his feet when Norris slept him with a huge right, demolition job

He always came on late in fights and i suspect he loaded against cotto, clottey, williams. And lujuan at the least

Clottey hirt his hands punching the plaster and stopped throwing

Cintron and cotto were mangled and lujuan had is ear almost fall off
