I think people were worried that Kovalev would go all out and overwhelm Clev early. If anything, it should have been worrying that Clev was getting out boxed and losing rounds when Kovalev, who supposedly had inferior skills, was fighting a measured fight.

nath could benefit with being with a well experienced trainer, no disrespect to vince but clev needs a more experienced figure head training him

Kovalev has a beautiful relaxed, smooth style. Just makes boxing look so effortless.

And that's something I'd definatley agree with with; I imagined that Kovalev would either motor over Clev early or be boxed and pestered out of it; that Nathan did better then that probably coloured my view though someone did cut Sergey and I'm not convinced it was Terry O Connor though on another thread they may have video of O' Connor on the grassy knoll.

This is a good point his tactics were terrible.. He has the reach and the better boxing skills he had to hit and move.. His heart was going to get the better of him one day :(.. I'm a huge fan and devastated for Clev but he needs to be back working with the Calzaghe's.. Take nothing away from Kovalov he was clinical. I Think Clev is a lot better than we seen tonight and hopefully him and his dad will see that and sort it out

Screw that! Enzo Calzaghe is the most overrated trainer going! All his instructions used to consist of was "bang bang!" or something along those lines! He should team up with Lockett! Bury the hatchet with Macarinelli first obviously.

locket would be a good choice, very impressed with gary last year or so, Freddie roach said he would like to work with nath in the future, if clev went stateside like khan did then I think it could actually do him a world of good

Gary Lockett is a fantastic trainer, very intelligent and shouldn't be 2nd fiddle to anyone. He was one of my favourite amateur boxers and followed him as a pro, an excellent boxer. Lockett will get some fantastic results, he kept Enzo in the fight tonight - picked him up and kept him going hard; Lockett will be trainer of the year either next or the year after.

Gary comes on here though not often; I really hope that Gavin Rees has kept his head and is ticking over - I'd like to see them do well.

I still think Rees can do something whether it's at domestic or european level to be fair.

For me its not a surprise on the cleverly loss......... i actually thought a while a go brashly that if cleverly got thru the first few rounds he should be ok.... but after thought when you think of any sport not just boxing you need to be challenged regularly as time went on i just had a feeling cleverlys ridiculous inactivity, low level opposition and his confidence pre fight he hasnt grown or achieved a higher level where he could fight thru fighters like Kovalev.. its shame that nathan has lost i liked him i am not sure about changing trainers maybe its time for cleverly to change management...

TBH it was bad matchmaking but it's because of how Cleverly had been handled the past 3 years. Since winning the title he never faced progressively better fighters. He actually seemed to be fighting against weaker and weaker opponent. You can't go from B level (Murat, Bellew) to C level (Karpency, Hawk) straight up to A level (Kovalev). The fights against Murat and Bellew should have been followed up by fighter better than they are not worse.

I think it was Cleverly who wanted the fight to be fair. Warren just went along with it because he knew that if Cleverly did pull it off he'd get a deal with HBO most probably and big money fights.

Who on earth can really beat Kovolev on that form at 175?

I'd say Campillo and White were certainly better wins than anything Cleverly had personally (Murat would be close to both I'll give you that)
