I haven't seen the Munroe stoppage so I'm not debating it. Maybe it was worse, but that doesn't mean Groves wasn't punching back as you incorrectly believe.

Na seriously, all the best to Rendall Munroe, he has had no silver spoon or over-eager promoters willing to big him up. His efforts in Japan deserve respect and hopefully he will be back!

They were both awful stoppages, but I'd say the Groves stoppage was worse because that fight was competitive.

Munroe was punching back as well. Your point?
Wow, didn't think this would be so hard to follow for you.

Someone said that Groves wasn't punching back, and I responded that he was. That was the only point I was making, and I cannot pass a judgement about the Munroe stoppage because I haven't seen it. You responded to me by mentioning Munroe, which is irrelevant to my point.

I said he wasn't punching back at the time of the stoppage, I didn't say he wasn't a second before. Munroe was also throwing back a second before.
But Groves was hurt worse than Munroe.
So this was the worse stoppage.

Gotcha, although I don't see why it matters that Groves was punching back a second before the stoppage but not exactly at the time of the stoppage.

I'm not saying the Groves stoppage was ok. I'm comparing to the Munroe stoppage.

I know, but you mentioned that Groves wasn't throwing back at the time of the stoppage, which seems to suggest that you'd think it would be a more appropriate stoppage if he had. I just don't see why the one second makes a difference.

I'll have to catch the Munroe fight on YouTube to compare them.

The one second is more something that is in common with both stoppages. Not long enough in either stoppage.
The difference is Munroe wasn't hurt as bad, so this stoppage was worse.

It difficult to argue with this.

UK referees & the TV hype machine wears down a fan ironically the way boxers aren't allowed to wear down opponents (because a referee waves it off). Mayweather carefully handpicking his way to 'greatness'. I wonder more and more why I am watching this insulting filth.

Just saw it.

Munroe was blocking most of the shots and he didn't seem too hurt, although he was clearly buzzed by a right hand before backing into the corner. He also spent far too much time in the corner (about a full minute after being rocked) and was responding very periodically to Selby's barrage. It was definitely a bad stoppage, but I think Froch-Groves was worse; Groves was in trouble for a much shorter period and he was punching back more.

Not fighting out from the ropes but still throwing albeit sporadically while not being very rocked was Munroe's position.
George Groves was hurt much more, and the effectiveness of his punches was less. But for a shorter period.
Due mainly to the comparative distress of Munroe and Groves, I consider the Munroe stoppage worse. Due to ref having to intervene quicker when a fighter has been rocked more.

I agree, although not sure he should continue.

A boxer who won English, British, Commonwealth and European titles should have had more opportunities after going to Japan to face a good champion.

The move to Hatton proved to be a big big mistake - I would like to hear Ricky's comments as when he went into promoting he said he wanted to be on the side of the boxer.

Ironically, if only he had promoted Monroe with a fraction of the manner in which he was promoted by FW then Rendal would have retired with a full set of titles and hopefully a few quid in the bank.

Not true, if a fighter is losing the fight and has shown no way of being able to get on top that has to come into it, whether he has taken enough punishment or not. Either way, both were bad stoppages

I am sure that it is in the BBBofC rules that a ref can stop a fight if he feels that a boxer is so far behind on points that he could only win by a stoppage, which would be unlikely (not sure of the correct wording).

I haven't seen the fight, but if Monroe had lost every round he is not a concussive puncher and Selby has a good chin, so in that case the ref would be justified in stopping the fight (based on BBBofC rules).
