Re: Ward-Kovalev RBR Discussion
Ward didn't look like top 10 p4p material last night at all. Maybe he could fit somewhere in 11-20 position.

Ward won, deservedly. Where does that leave Krusher?boxing_rocks wrote:Ward didn't look like top 10 p4p material last night at all. Maybe he could fit somewhere in 11-20 position.
Re: Ward-Kovalev RBR Discussion
Again his physical strength is barely an issue if someone wanted to really stop him wrestling. Kovalev consistently was able to get an underhook which means he could have control if he wanted or knew what to do. When Ward had his arms around him he could of whizzered the shit out of him and put him far out of position and put a lot of pressure on his shoulders which would've made him think twice about grappling. I just don't understand why when fighting someone who likes to grapple a guy wouldn't use a wrestling trainer to learn how to deal with it most effectively.jezzamundo wrote:Partly because Ward is very physically strong - he's not a big puncher, but he had a strength/wrestling advantage over just about everyone he fought a 168lb. Early in the fight I thought it looked like Kovalev was the physically stronger, but as the fight went on if anything Ward looked the stronger, and certainly the more skillful on the inside.p4p1 wrote:It's really not mate. A little bit of wrestling training would have another boxer hurting Ward in the clinch and putting him on his ass if they wanted to. He is very out of position grappling wise if someone wants to throw him around. That's why Kov was easily able to back him up onto the ropes.squiggy wrote: I imagine it's because that's much easier said than done.

Ward didn't win, but Kovalev slid for me to 7-10th position, because he couldn't stop or totally dominate the slow and rusty version of Ward.Tanzio wrote:Ward won, deservedly. It hurts, doesn't it? Krusher lost. Yes, robberies hurt. Enjoy your cheating "win".Tanzio wrote:It hurts, doesn't it? Krusher lost. Re: Ward-Kovalev RBR Discussion
You're an idiot. The heavier punches, including the heavier jabs and the knockdown, were scored by Kovalev. The best work Ward did is with his head.Lackeos wrote:If you actually think Kovalev landed a larger volume of really hard punches, then you didn't even see the fight. It's one thing if you think Kovalev's higher volume of glancing pitty-pat jabs had more merit than Ward's harder shots. But if you think Kovalev landed more hard shots, you didn't actually see the fight at all.Ricky_ wrote:Kovalev was the white guy.Lackeos wrote: No, they favored power shots with snap over tentative, glancing pitty-pat jabs.

Re: Ward-Kovalev RBR Discussion
Kovalev's jab is definitely harder than anything Ward landed in that fight.
Re: Ward-Kovalev RBR Discussion
Ward cemented his position in the upper echelon of fighters. He won 7 rounds to Kov 5 in my books. Recovered well and boxed superbly against a bigger and stronger guy. I think he will do it easier in a rematch.boxing_rocks wrote:Kovalev's jab is definitely harder than anything Ward landed in that fight.
Re: Ward-Kovalev RBR Discussion
Kovalev won it at least 8 to 4 in rounds..That's being generous to Ward.. with the knockdown he won at least 116-111.. He definitely controlled the range and ring space and was the aggressor.. Ward is a great boxer, but this was a flat out robbery...
Roy Jones is a friend of Ward's who loves him. He gave the first 6 rounds to Kovalev and had the same score. He told reporters there was no way to consider Ward the victor because Kovalev landed the harder, cleaner punches, and with that most of the rounds.

Re: Ward-Kovalev RBR Discussion
Maybe Roy needs to take up judging if you believe his take on it was accurate.Immediately Roy is bias. If he "loves" the bloke then he doesn't want to be seen favoring so he goes the other way in close rounds. Thats his opinion. I think when he watches the replay he will realise his mate won the title...and who knows, if you watch it with an unbias approach you may come up with the same result or find it much closer than you currently believe.Kalan wrote:Kovalev won it at least 8 to 4 in rounds..That's being generous to Ward.. with the knockdown he won at least 116-111.. P4p1, I'm not a huge fan of either fighter but respect both of their ability. Agree 100% with jezz, the fight couldve gone either way. I only had Krusher within 1 point because of the KD - couldve been wider !! or he couldve won.p4p1 wrote:No it couldn't. You were making similar posts after Pac Bradley 1, clown. Unlike this, that was an all out robbery. This was more of a gift decision, you could have Ward ahead if given every benefit of the doubt. Why don't you gloat a bit about that Perez guy getting robbed on the undercard.Tanzio wrote:It hurts, doesn't it? Krusher lost. Re: Ward-Kovalev RBR Discussion
I'm not saying it wasn't close but I certainly can not find 7 rounds that Ward won. Not only that the judges gave Ward round 10, a round that it seems to be unanimously agreed on that Kovalev won.amwsnw wrote:P4p1, I'm not a huge fan of either fighter but respect both of their ability. For me, Ward clearly won rounds 7, 8 and 11 and edged 3, 5, 9 and 12. Which of those do you feel can't be scored for Ward?p4p1 wrote:I'm not saying it wasn't close but I certainly can not find 7 rounds that Ward won. There were two swing rounds I gave to Kovalev too - 4 and 6.

Pac v Bradley was closer than this one. Both could have gone either way.Purse Bid Shakedown wrote:You were making similar posts after Pac Bradley 1, clown. Unlike this, that was an all out robbery.
