I have gone over this fight over and over at first I thought Eubank but now after seeing the public workouts and George’s snap in his punches against the CEJ combinations I reckon Groves on points fighting on the back foot not allowing junior in and punishing him every time he does. Might even be a late stoppage. This fight is won with groves being on the back foot imo ......... unless CEJ swallows George’s best shots and wears him down which I think is unlikely

And there was me thinking it was the other way round.
I just had someone tell me Eubank has good head movement, it takes all sorts mate
Said person is now saying groves works hard with limited ability.

I'm a fan of both and looking forward to this.

I think Groves will win, controlling it with the job. His perceived vulnerability to getting iced shouldn't be an issue as Eubank probably doesn't have the dig at this weight. That said, I can see Eubank just wearing him down with a high work rate, round after round, and Groves beginning to gas by the latter rounds.

Shit... even as I'm writing this I'm reconsidering now...

Anyway, good fight.

What happens if Groves lands that same right hand he put Froch over with?

If that happens (I think it will) then Eubank is in trouble IMO.

What time is the weigh in?

I see a few people changed their vote. Eubank down to 40% now

I think jnr will be stumbling backwards or on his arris.

For jnr to win will be how he reacts to being hit. Martin murray has said single punch power groves possess more than GGG.

One thing i am also wondering is who does the official measurements? Because face to face you'd say theirs a good 2in between eubank and groves. But the cards say half a inch is the height difference.

It certainly looks bigger

If he lands something that meaty, he’s gone imo

Now I’m trying to talk myself in to the 50/1 first round blowout

Well Golovkin kept putting him on his arse and stopped him Groves did neither. Not sure he's being entirely honest there.

Yeah, I assume he will react the same way he always has when taking clean punches on the chin from world class super middleweight punchers....

What will Groves do if Eubank lands a big hook on his chin like he did v Yildrim?

I'd imagine he'll take it about as well as he'd take a shot from any career-middleweight without a record as a one-punch knockout finisher :yay:

Back and forth back and forth... keep changing my mind on this one.

But watching last night Eubank Spike O’Sullivan again, I was very impressed by the balls Junior showed, and also the fast relentless combination punches he threw, and the shots he took: Spike is a serious puncher. Plus he stayed with BJS and kept it close, showing he can deal with boxers ok.

Of course the litmus test is taking a punch from the bigger Groves, who is surely the hardest super middleweight puncher on the planet...But I get the feeling he will take the punch, and his combos might grind George down late for a stoppage or points.

So at the moment I’m thinking Junior, but I’ll watch the weigh in & God knows I might even change my mind again ... Yesterday I was in the gym talking with some amateur boxer who was telling me Jr was going to win, and I was saying Groves ! :D

Gone back and forth on this one over the past few weeks but think I've finally settled on Groves on points. Key reason for me is that not only has Eubank been matched softly, he's also been matched very specifically. Since being outboxed by Saunders his opponents have all stood right in front of him. Chudinov, Spike, Quinlan, Abraham, Yildirim. They're all very basic with little to no head movement and slow feet. Groves is no Saunders in terms of foot movement, but he's at least a level above everyone Eubank has fought in between.

So basically the last time Eubank fought anyone that could box off the back foot effectively was Billy Joe and he didn't win a round until Saunders started to tire. As long as Groves' gas tank can see him through 12 rounds, I think he should have enough. Naturally bigger, better boxer at range and a very big puncher. Eubank is good inside, has a high work rate and seemingly a decent chin, but I just haven't seen the evidence that he'll be any more effective against a top level boxer than he was against BJS.

He struggled to get inside on a fresh Saunders. Since then he's almost exclusively fought inferior inside fighters who make no attempt to keep him at distance. Groves will not only be trying to keep him at distance with a very good jab, but also a big right hand. Eubank hasn't had to deal with that before.

True what Eubank just said, Grove looks like he didn’t wanna be there and Jr revelling in it.
