I think Kovalev himself agrees with that as well as per his post fight comments
I was working during the fight and volume was off, what did he and yarde say after, vaguely?
Says he'd fight Canelo and that he's ready.. mentioned Bivols name too.. admitted he doesn't have much time left and only wants big fights...
Never seen a Yarde interview

I wouldn't mind seeing him retire now on a high note. He looks vulnerable these days.
But seriously why do I see Russian fighters hiring American a-holes as trainers? Povetkin did it too and it cost him a lot in his career, and Kovalev's a-hole trainer tonight was anxious to stop the fight after round 8. I don't see any American fighters hiring Russian a-holes to be their trainers.
The same A hole trainer you speak of just lost one of his fighters to a brain injury just last month and you're questioning why McGirt was anxious to stop the fight?

That is what is called over here as lighting a fire under someone's ass. It worked, didn't it?
Maybe it's a language barrier, but why are you calling the trainers a-holes?
Sorry about the language. I just don't see why Russians need an American trainer.

Well yeah, because i'm afraid that if Kov hadn't looked so good in the 1st 30 seconds or so of rd. 9 - not looked so good as oposed to really getting hurt badly - he might have actually thrown in the towel. You don't really want a trainer who's "anxious to stop the fight", but of course you don't want brain damage or death.
Kovalev carved up Yarde with the jab.
Sergey got rocked in the mid rounds and looked tired at some points but found it within himself to take back the fight back over.
Yarde's boxing ability ... His hook was fine, his chin was relatively solid until the end and his body shots were effective when he used them.
Kovalev was always ahead, Yarde prowled around keeping the fight close and rocked Kovalev at one point but was chased and not leading more often than not.
A few more miles on the Kovalev record, he looked professional, vulnerable, ruthless and disciplined today he get's a high mark.
Kov is actually quite a skillful boxer with a very good and hurtful jab. It's funny how he was so often depicted as some caveman. I guess if you have power and stop people, people just put you in that bracket.

Kovalev totally outboxed Ward in their first fight. He has gaps in his boxing skills, but what he does, he does really well.

Well, Kovalev shouldn't be getting that hurt by the same level of fighter he used to run through. That's a bad sign.

I kick myself when I think about the money I lost by not betting on him to win by UD in the Alvarez rematch. I had picked that, but didn't put any money on it. Good odds on that one.

Kovalev will obviously move to the big fights, Canelo, Ward who knows.
It was a good experience for Anthony Yarde, I get a feeling he knows where he went wrong.
The coverage was quality and the crowd got into it

He's not fighting Ward, just like Bellew wasn't going to fight Ward. Ward is done.
He will make millions and millions for Canelo and then call it a day
Ya, I enjoyed it, the fight before it was even better. A lot of the Russian cards are good.
