Kov was tired by then. Punch resistance is always lower when a fighter is tired. He was definitely hurt by it.
Yeah, you could see by the way he reacted to the cuffing left just before the 1-2.

Thing is its not like the fight was fought at a high tempo either. He fought a much higher tempo against Yarde.

You do have to wonder if he wasn't eyeing retirement because there seemed a lack of commitment.

Well done to Canelo, think he should move down to 168.
I wonder if the quick turn around and then struggling to make weight affected his stamina/willingness to commit. Plus, Alvarez was constantly in his face, even if he wasn't throwing much early on. No excuses though. He was willing to sign to fight on that date, and its the same weight he's been making his whole career.

Interesting to see where Canelo goes next. I think Beterbiev is a step too far, but he could be competitive with Bivol (probably in a dull fight). Callum Smith would be my ideal choice, to see if he can become a genuine 4 weight champion. Can't see him dropping all the way back to 160.

You would have thought kovs tactics would have been to use his long power shots early to allow him to dominate the centre ring.

He usually throws in a lot of hard jabs which not just score but also soften people up.

History was made, yes for the 4th belt at a 4th weight for Canelo, but hopefully history will show that he handpicked the weakest champs? at 168 and 175 to get it. Kovalev showed what many of us thought, he didn't have the stamina at his age to compete in the later rounds. I've always thought Kovalev was good, but not great. Ward showed us that. I'm thinking Canelo wishes he didn't demand the rehydration limit now, as it takes away from his win.

You guys see Kovalev train? Something I've noticed - breaks after a handful of punches and walks around. His performances clearly indicate he's lazy. Couple that with his age and money and for him it's loss of hunger. For a pro athlete, his stamina is an embarrassment.

OMFG! So funny!

I can’t wait to read more anti-Canelo remarks. :yay:

Drinking from the river of hatred, sourced from the floods of tears of bitterness, tastes absolutely delicious! :TU:
You're a tool. Plain and simple.

Kovalev fought timid and scared against a smaller man. I'm not saying he WAS paid off.. but was fighting like someone who wanted to poke and jab at the other guy without trying to actually win the fight.

Great job getting the stoppage. Saved us from a scorecard debacle

Kovalev has no chin and is mentally weak. Buddy had a foolish gameplan but that's no surprise.

I was surprised how this played out though I picked canelo to win. He didnt seem concerned with kovalevs power whatsoever. Canelos counters were powerful and sharp. Hes a special fighter but just like Roy picked Ruiz over Lennox canelo picked kovalev over bivol, callum Smith, beterbiev and gvod for a reason

Of course he has a chin. He was taking clean shots all night.

It was that equilibrium shot which took him off balance followed by the right hook to finish it.

Hes been kod by 3 fighters who arent powerpunchers. At this level his chin is garbage. He got dropped by lesser fighters as well

one of those 3 fighters stopped him by nutsack punches, how can you rate his chin based on that?

I got to question testing in this fight.
We question heavyweights putting on 15 pounds of muscle. But a 160 guy adding 15 pounds of muscle is normal?

Great win for Canelo. I saw Kov taking the early rounds for the most part, but also saw Alvarez countering to the body hard. Alvarez fought with a high guard and tucked chin absorbing Kov's blows but always countering to the body and that left hook to the head. Over the 10 rounds he really wore kov down and finally stopped him in the 11th. A very impressive victory. Scorecards were a travesty. Canelo fought like the bigger man, and frankly didn't look that much smaller in the ring.

Kovalev won a number of the early rounds although every time Canelo threw something big it whistled by with a warning, you felt it.
Canelo's ability to project the fight and deliver alternatives were not all needed , Alvarez was well prepared and looked good, looked like he carried Sergey to the late rounds.
