The judging isn’t even the worst thing for me, frankly corruption is expected in boxing. It’s the refusal of Sky / Hearn /big journalistic names like Buncey etc to call it out. Very poor.

Yeah they’re all earning money off the bandwagon and looking the other way, an absolute disgrace. Even box news are giving his low rent cards 3 or 4 star ratings where they should be handing out ONE.
If one journalist would actually show some balls, and call it out, what a breath of fresh air that would be - boxing News used to back in the 1980s with Harry Milan, and he’d then get banned from future shows, but hardly ever since then ...they’re too worried about losing their ringside passes. Bunce and Davies are both house trained and on the books, completely useless

Was it Claude Abraham’s or dan Herbert who said after they’d slated one of Franks shows they found themselves sitting placed in front of a pillar the next show they attended

I think Smith is struggling to make the weight now, he was talking about moving up to LHW before the Ryder fight so maybe making weight was a factor behind his showing in this fight. Expect him to move up soon.

It was one fight for god's sake. He wasn't exposed, it was a close fight (which I had him winning) against an awkward hard hitting southpaw. Plenty of great boxers have struggled with certain styles and some have even lost to guys ranked a lot lower. Shane Mosley lost to Vernon Forret and Kostya Tszyu lost to Vince Phillips, It didn't make them 'bang average'.

Okay well I’m exaggerating a bit because I don’t like Smith, I think he’s overhyped and overrated, but there you go ..and his route to so-called sky superstardom has been underwhelming ...He’s a big tough unit but not top level imo.

I've not seen the fight, but heard the radio commentary which was a bit dodgy - very bias (seemingly) to Ryder - seemed to be dominating on Costello's commentating but then "close round" or "round to Smith"..... so I cannot comment on the fight itself (yet) but.

I think the hype around Smith has been a bit much. He has (and still only has IMO) one world class win and Groves looked the worse I've ever seen a fighter in fight week in Dubai. He looked like he'd over trained and just looked over sparred. For him to get the "universally recognised at #1" and the "ring magazine belt" for that win, I thought was a little bit premature. I don't think it was a forgone conclusion that Groves' would have beaten the other champions and it was a tad lucky for Chudinov to be classed as a "Super" world champion - considering in the fight before he lost for the said belt - albeit he should have got the decision.

I don't think Canelo will be that interested at this stage - I think the risk / reward isn't great enough. Smith needs a second career defining win to get that match..... Team Canelo will know he's no Rocky Fielding, so its not an easy belt - but it isn't a Super Fight yet either.

As for Ryder - I'd like to see him rematch BJS..... a fair few thought he won that match and BJS looked awful last time out.

Smith against Benevidez and BJS vs Ryder on same bill as a PPV is a goer for me.

Top effort from Ryder, very classy in the post-fight interview as well despite those cards. Hope he gets another high level bout next after that performance.

Had it 7-5 to Ryder but thought he won his rounds much clearer.

Also, it looked to me like a coupe more rounds and Smith might have collapsed. He had very little left whereas Ryder looked like he could have gone 15.

I agree totally , I went down the same road with football years ago and haven't watched a game since , I'm getting totally disenchanted with the sport .
I personally thought it stooped to real low in the UK on Saturday am old enough to remember when bad decisions were a thing that happened regularly in Germany . It seems that the UK is the new home of that .

Ottke actually didn't receive that many gifts, it was greatly overstated because people couldn't forget the Reid fight.

Boxing journalism and sport journalism generally has gone down the pan. Not a lot worth reading any more, publications aren't interested in any real journalism about actual fights.
