In the rounds that were somewhat close, it looked like Canelo was coasting to me, just happy to bide his time knowing he could get him out of there when he wanted to.
The rounds Saunders won were down to Canelo stalking him and basically coasting. Once Canelo turned it up to the next gear, Saunders was out of there.

As much as Saunders is gonna say he was winning, Canelo giving it the big 'un before ramping up for the finish really underscored this.
I think Saunders will keep his head down for the next five years or so!

A lack of quality opponents and inactivity caused him to soften up and he knew he was heading for the canvas, you could see the shock on his face everytime Canelo landed something decent.
First hard body shot Canelo landed, you could see the look of 'welcome to reality'.

In the same way that jabs that miss aren’t scoring shots nor are punches blocked on the arms, Canelo landed the heavier shots but Bill’s work was cleaner

disagree totally than bill's work was cleanier, canelo was the one landing flush shots to the body and jarring bill's head back with clean counters, bill's work was mostly pitter patty herky jerk stuff that glanced off because bill was trying to stay out of range and pulled his shots

btw it's not harsh at all.....you talk utter shite, including about other fighters.....then you get it when you quit yourself

At first Bill was just throwing putter patter shots but as the fight wore on he was landing some crisp shots and in combinations too, not that often but then before the 8th Canelo wasn’t landing too many clean shots either.

The first half of the fight was always going to be Saunders best time - Even so, he was down on the official cards and most normal thinking people's card too.

The second half was going to be where Canelo took over even more. Saunders was slowing down noticeably towards the end of the 7th, and I agree with what others have said, you could see Saunders wasn't used to getting hit like he was.

His face getting broke by a beautiful shot saved him from getting a systematic beatdown (of the highest order)over the later part of the fight.

That video is comical, but Saunders talks so much shite that things like that will always comes back and haunt him

This is the thing, he made his bed with comments and his actions, he can't talk about how Dubois should have been going out on a stretcher, to then sit on his corner after a single round with an injury. If he'd have kept his mouth shut, acted humble, and been respectful, he'd have gotten the benefit of the doubt from many.. Instead he acted like a knob and is being treat like one.

Likewise if Sunny Edwards had shit it Vs Mthalne he would have been in for a hounding as well due to his mouth...

It is interesting I'm reading not just about Canelo being p4p #1 but now people are talking about him being a "once in a generation" and in the all time great bracket....I guess that depends on peoples definition of all time great.

So a question, if Canelo retired now.....how does he compare with the greats weve been blessed with in the last 30 years.

For me the guy SHOULD have 3 pretty clear losses on his resume (Mayweather, Lara and GGG 1)...the 2nd fight with GGG was extremely close and I'll even say an aging, much smaller, Cotto gave him trouble in a fight that was closer than the judges saw it. Danny Jacob's also gave him problems, real problems.

So for different reasons I think he will find it hard to eclipse the 3 top ATGs of the last 30 years (Floyd, RJJ and PAC). Floyd beat him handily (he was closer to his peak than Floyd's peak). Pac's resume and run 10 years ago was something else, just the quality of opposition....and RJJ in his prime did not look like losing for any second of any fight (something that not even Floyd had). So unless Canelo does something spectacular, like wins at Cruiserweight...I cannot see him eclipsing those three

But what about the next rung.....Your Titos, DLhs, Mosley, JMM, Morales, Barreras of this world....has Canelo already surpassed them? If not, what does he need to do?

Some boxing lesson we saw tonight. How to break someone's face with clean, effective punching. :yay:

I thought BJS had a great 7th. SA looked frustrated and missed so many punches and when he did land it was rarely clean. But once I saw the eye I knew it was over. BJS couldn't win with one eye. Shame but there you go.

I disagree on a number of your assertions:

1. FMJ was closer to prime than Canelo when they fought. Canelo was 22, nowhere near where he is now, and he fought at a catch weight. FMJ was 36. His prime was around 30 v ODLH.

2. The Lara fight was very close, not clear. Lara did precious little beyond running for his life. It could have gone either way. I had it for Canelo or a draw. I think that Jacobs had a better argument for the win, based on actual scoring blows, but that was also a fight that could go either way.

3. I think that FMJ v Cotto was closer than Canelo v Cotto. Both very competitive though.

4. FMJ and Pac had fights that could have gone against them. In the case of Pac, he also had close losses.

5. Canelo is in the midst of a historic run of fights that is comparable to any of your top three.

I agree that Canelo is not quite on their level at the moment, but if he unifies 168, and continues this run for two to four more years, I think he qualifies to be in the conversation with all of them. He is currently on that next rung and reaching.

Glorious scenes as the bully bails out after a tough round, im not just saying this because im hate Saunders but in the corner before he quit it looked as if he was making a meal of the eye injury, no doubt that right eye was damaged but it looked to me as if he was purposely trying to keep it closed, i might be wrong but i noticed it before he quit, either way he bailed when going got tough,

TBF to Saunders while he was there he did try to compete which is more you can say for Canelo's recent opponents, he tried to jab and move and after a few rounds in began shooting the left out, Canelo always pressed, cut the ring off and remained cool, his shots carried far more weight, the lefts to body, winging right uppercuts chipping away at Saunders, after Saunders grew into it in middle rounds, Canelo hurt him in 8th and Saunders body language immediatly changed from confident to panicked, Canelo began landing heavier punches and Saunders clearly didnt like it, still a big shock to see him quit like that, as i say looked like he was trying to make eye seem worse than it was, looked like he was tying to keep it closed when corner when trying to work it

Still though to see him go out like that glorious
