Fabio Wardley: ‘I can’t keep taking years off my life’
“Did everyone have a good time? Were you entertained?” said Wardley as he sat down for the post-fight press conference. “Yeah, look, I'm not the finished article. I haven't got everything nailed down, everything perfect, everything all ticked off. I said to Frank [Warren] in the ring, ‘I'm still very much learning on the job,’ which is a funny thing to say 20 fights in and as interim [WBA] world champion. But I am very much.”
“Justis [Huni] has more amateur fights than I've had fights [amateur and pro]. He has been boxing since he was eight years old. I've been boxing for about eight, nine years. So, yeah, look, these are the ways I've got to learn and these fights make me better. Like we saw how much I took from the first Frazer [Clarke] fight and how I took that into the second one. That's what I'll do with this one. I haven't got to rematch Justis, but the lessons learned in this fight, against someone with the skills, attributes, hand speed… that’s stuff I'll take and learn and build on.”
“I think that's it, I think I'm good, I think I've had my fill,” Wardley replied. “A couple more of the last one [against Frazer Clarke] with the first-round knockout, I'll take those every day. Yeah, the game's the game. There are going to be moments where I'm going to have to grind it out like that. I do not want to keep taking years off my life like this.”
“Maybe I have a screw or something loose. But I do absolutely love it. The occasion, the moment, the buzz, the build, there's nothing better. It is intoxicating. It very much is. But yeah, maybe I'll keep my hands up a little bit more.”

I was initially disappointed when Miller pulled out, and I still think he would make a heck of an opponent for Wardley.
But Huni was great to watch, and made for a really good watch.
Thoroughly enjoyed that fight..

Said before the fight Huni was the better boxer but did.nt have the chin or the punch. So overall even though it was a surprise. It was.nt if th a t makes sense LOL But the biggest surprise to.me was how little actual boxing skill Wardley actually has . The real work comes now in who do they put him in with . I could see a Hughie Fury beating him big punchers hurting him . Frank's got his work cut out to keep him winning at the high level

Huni's team are contesting the result and Eddie is on board with it.

No contest maybe? Rematch? A slap on the wrist for the ref

Doesn't the ref pick up the count from ringside once he's returned from taking the boxer to the neutral corner?

While we're on the subject of AJ, they are both with the dreadful Ben Davison, who doesn't seem to know how to coach responsible defence. It's glaring, some of the stuff his fighters do that he doesn't seem to notice.
Worryingly, he's also got Itauma.
The guy's a fraud in my opinion.

Could'nt agree more , I find it very suprising that Frank allows The guys he promotes to train with him, you can bet your bottom dollar if Frank did'nt want them too they would'nt , The guys advice in the corner is usualy useless , besides the fact he gets it wrong he often pannicks , i noticed that they had someone else listed has trainer and him has assistant , so why the fook was he overtalking the trainer AGAIN .
His fighters that win do because they fight handpicked opponents , and lets have it right even Huni was handpicked simply because it was no secret , at heavy he's not got the best chin and certainly never had power at least not enough for top level , and even then it had to be a hail mary from the gods that won it , certainly not Davidsons approach or teaching of skills .
His fighters that win do so all on there own expertise and skills learnt elswhere , plus matchmaking , old saying Bullshit baffle brains , and that guys full of it .
More so than any other boxer Wardley needs to get away to a decent trainer , someone who can actually teach him , because if he does'nt he's reached his pinnacle and when he meets the bigger punchers , his brains are on the line he'll have them scrambled and not able to enjoy the money he'll make , And that will be a shame because he seems like a real nice guy

I didn’t know anything about Huni before this fight but have seen a few posts where people were saying his chin wasn’t the best. I know he was unbeaten so was he shook up or dropped in other fights?

Pretty badly hurt by Kevin lerena. Definatly stunned in a couple of other fights. And there is some pretty well circulated footage of him getting dropped badly sparing years ago.

Wood v Warrington and Wardley v Huni could look so different right now alongside Aj v Dubois. There's no way Ben's tactics allowed for all three to get battered fir every minute of the fight until two found a punch from the gods.

The rules are one thing, what actually happens is another. That almost all of us here suspect that Fabio would have been asked questions, walked around, had his gloves wiped and asked more questions had he been the one to get knocked down just show how important being the A-side is. It all adds to the legendary status of Usyk who has been the B-side most of his career and still achieved what he has.

Yeah, pretty much bang on, and in the cold light of day, pretty outrageous from the referee John lightning Latham - brass necked or what?
He cannot be taken seriously ever again after that

Wood vs Michael Conlon too. I would say Fabio’s performance at the weekend is actually quite typical of a fighter under Davison: battered for rounds and pull a KO out of nowhere. Surely if we can see his fighters getting beaten up like this, then managers and promoters must be able to see it, too?

You make an excellent point. And then when you consider that he has been reffed by Terry O'Connor, Phil Edwards and Michael Alexander on his visits here, you can see how the dice are even more loaded against him.
