The Class of Classic . . .kikibalt wrote:Buzz, it would be nice to have other people place their thoughts on the thread.BoxBuzz wrote:I (as do many others) sure do appreciate dropping in here and catching up.
As this thread nears a quarter of a million views, I'd like to share with some of the regular contributors here that from time to time I get PM's from people who will likely never actually chime in here, but nevertheless drop back in routinely to read the newest contributions. I have been told from many forum visitors that they are in awe of the fact that they can take in these personal accounts of sports history that so many of this threads main contributors have been so closely associated with. (Not to mention some good leads on great music, old school dog stories, and some great food suggestions) lol. Some readers simply don't feel bold enough to express their thanks directly. So just know that though you may feel you are simply sharing a conversation, quite a few folks feel they are privy to one of the best Pugilism Documentaries ever written or produced.
Being from Phoenix Az I know I felt privileged to be able to learn so much more about the behind the scenes stories regarding so many southwestern U.S. fighters, and their associates/families etc. As this thread has grown, it has taken on an international personality as folks from all over the planet have dropped in to share some jaw dropping (ok...and some times jaw breaking) history here as well.
I would like to deliver a heartfelt thanks to you for feeling comfortable enough to make this place a spot to share these stories, have a few laughs, and continue to illuminate.
Many of the folks feel that this thread has become a remarkable history filled treasure trove, as well as a gift.
Thank you for your kind words.
There is enough Classic American West Coast Boxing info and history to keep this thread alive for months (actually years) to come.
Although we have nothing relating to today's boxing to post, the past was rich. Just when it seems as if we are "slowing down", one post will kick us into high gear again. I appreciate the contributions of those who are not West Coast guys, because it all ties in together. Like Frank, I wish a few of the "visitors" would post something, even if just an acknowledgement. In due course, this thread will include links to video interviews of legends we discuss here. The regulars here have a strong sense of loyalty and pride, we are a family of sorts.

Re: Classic American West Coast Boxing
This Tuesday at the GSBA meeting in Hollywood:
Mando Ramos and Rodolfo Gonzalez video interviews will be featured.
Conducted three years ago, at the WBHOF event, this would be the very last interview for Mando, the youngest lightweight champ in history.
Rodolfo scored more consecutive knockouts than any world champ in history.
They were stablemates, both held the WBC Lightweight title, and both featured in interviews conducted by Dan Hanley and myself.
Our goal is to bring a little bit of this CAWCB thread to the screen.
Dan Hanley and I had nothing prepared as we faced each interview. We used our memory, quick access to Boxrec, and a little luck.
This was our initial effort, an experiment that shows potential.
In future interviews, we will practice what we've learned from this experience and eventually have a great video library of boxing history.
I'm going to bring our partner, Greg Patterson, and my dad along for the viewing. We had a good time that day.
Wish all of you could be there!

Sanchez & The Jets vs. Favre (who ?) & Vikings tonite.
I need Sanchez and company to overrun and throw this bum out in the trash. Santonio Holmes returns tonite and needs to show us what he is made of. Also, stopping Vikes Adrien Peterson is the key here.
Tail gate party starts at 4 pm.
Got my seats on the 3 yard line, behind visitors bench-mezzanine level .
Should be a good match up. For some reason, The Jets Flight Crew (the name of Jets cheerleaders) always get in way of the game, especially the leggy and top-heavy blonde
who likes to wink at me everytime Sanchez fades back for a pass. Thank God for replays on the scoreboard-LOL.

I agree that dogs live way too short a life. I've lost four dogs already and I don't consider myself to be ancient at 47. Sadly, my two current dogs are both 12 and starting to show signs of wear and tear.
Re: Classic American West Coast Boxing

Two of my dogs, taken in the back garden in the summer of 2005. The black one died a year later, to be replaced by a collie, and I still have the golden Lab.

Beautiful dogs Bennie, We lost two dogs this year, early in the year we lost Max, now Sandy. The jail bird, Charlie, is ten years old and he is slowing down, doesn't chase the ladies much anymore.....bennie wrote:

You make me laugh, Frank- I thought you were talking about me. My wife would agree with this statement.
Bennie, you do have beautiful dogs there with a nice sized backyard to play in it looks like. I'd like to add that your classic pictures that you are posting with your stories are most enjoyable too.

If it's Richard, Rick is OK, but "Dick" is a NO!
By the way, Congrats Remy!

Panzerfaust, Name him after yourself- take it from me, its a great gift that I'm sure he will be proud of as the years go by.
Jets win, but not before I got my ash soaked, and a few 4th quarter coronaries.
Witnessed a few Favre career milestones tonight- 500 TD's and went over 70,000 throwing yards. Yes-70,000 yards.
Next up, its Denver's turn to feel the wrath of Sanchez.

Charlie, I was thinking of you seconds before half-time, as the sheets of rain fell from the sky.
The main thing is the JETS WON!
Everytime I'd see Sanchez go the air with all that water on the ball I'd wince, but he usually hit his target.
The season is getting off to a nice start.
