Amir Khan could walk down many a street in Pakistan and not be recognised. It's a country with huge poverty issues where a lot (not sure about most) don't/ can't read a newspaper.

On the subject of his supporters, I've been to two of his fights in the UK, in Manchester and Sheffield. They sell Khan-Army gear at the venue which is designed in half Union Jack and half Pakistan motifs. He is supported by Asians and also by whites but personally, when you look at that big section of just Asian coloured males drum-banging from the start to the end - I feel they are over doing it - and also, I don't think they help Amir either because some fcker bangs that drum incessantly from the start to the end. There seems a bit of over-zealousness in it to me, personally. Having said that, I'd have no problem being close up with them, they're loud but I've never seen them being aggressive to anyone.

As regards Trunks and Union Jacks and what not ( ;;-) ) ...didn't Khan once get quite a lot of gyp for that heinous and outrageous crime of wearing a green and white Pakistani gumshield to pay some homage/ take pride in his ethnic identity? (I'm treading as carefully as I can here so that I p*ss anyone off). Personally, I think anyone who had a problem with that is a pure idiot - not least when he had union jack trunks on at the same time.

Yes I agree, Irish and English fighters wear their flag colours when fighting out of the USA, you don't hear the Americans getting upset, so do American Italians, Puerto Ricans, Mexicans, Philipinos to name but a few, it seems that over here we have a problem, even though the USA is more racist, strange that, we also boo other countries national anthems, including the USA, who are our biggest allies.

I've been to a few Khan fights, right from his debut, and the crowds have always been predominantly white.

I noticed it too, so where the ones for his last fight in the states.

I saw some black people supporting Matthew Macklin and he's Irish and English; I expect it's because it doesn't really matter.

Khans been a big advocate in trying to lead by example in being proud to be British and of Pakistani ethnicity especially at times when there were increased tensions with muslims in this country, anyone who is a against that is a tool imo. I also find that a large portion of people who dont like khan dont like him because he's Asian.

Good post, I agree, also a lot of British Asians hate him as well, some see him as a sell out, some are just jealous of his fame and some don't like a prominent Muslim figure partying, the same as most famous people he gets it from all sides, the vey thing that help's his marketability, works against him.

See this massively annoys me. I'm half Asian (Sri Lankan) and feel very lucky that the Asian side of my family are very proud to be in England. For me personally, similar to Khan maybe, I am proud of my heritage but even more proud of the country that raised me. A British Asian to hate on another British Asian for being successful and proud to represent Britain is pathetic in my opinion!
