Interesting thanks for that
Ha ha I'm just re-reading this thread and googled it as well!Fray Bentos wrote: ↑19 Nov 2020, 05:35I googled it also!![]()
I have not watched the documentary so genuine question; was/is there an issue that would have potentially made it difficult for him to?mickey1975 wrote: ↑17 Feb 2021, 17:06 His young son in that documentary went on to graduate from Durham university.
I don't know what he did. Kids from rough estates in Hull with their dad serving a long time in prison don't generally get into England's third best uni. Unless it's quite common around your way.tonyevs wrote: ↑13 Feb 2022, 10:29I have not watched the documentary so genuine question; was/is there an issue that would have potentially made it difficult for him to?mickey1975 wrote: ↑17 Feb 2021, 17:06 His young son in that documentary went on to graduate from Durham university.
What degree did he study??
merv goes out with my mates sister. It’s literally just clicked that this is him.bripez wrote: ↑12 Feb 2022, 06:20Great clip.
You can imagine afterwards Langdale saying to his mates why the fook did you start calling him a fat barstard ?
Looking at Langdales record I didn't realise he lost twice to Boxrecs very own Lee Kellet
Going back a few years but Kellet posts with Howard Daley - and their subsequent fight that ended in a draw, was good at the time
Going to Durham isn't common for anyone, let alone council estate kids, as I'm sure Merc will confirm.tonyevs wrote: ↑13 Feb 2022, 13:03 Whilst seeing your kids go to university is still a proud moment for their parents - it was when mine went - its not the exception any longer.
The percentage of 18 year olds going to university has been increasing for quite some time; In fact in 2019 50% of 18 year olds went to university; and more than a fifth of these were from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Whilst Tony may not have been the best role model for his children, its a good guess that his childrens mother was.
Both my children lived on a council estate for part of their childhood; both went to university. So to answer your question - i`d say kids off council estates going to university is quite common.
Oxford and Cambridge are the top, then it's Exeter and Durham, then proper uni's then the old poly's, going to Durham is an achievementmickey1975 wrote: ↑13 Feb 2022, 13:31Going to Durham isn't common for anyone, let alone council estate kids, as I'm sure Merc will confirm.tonyevs wrote: ↑13 Feb 2022, 13:03 Whilst seeing your kids go to university is still a proud moment for their parents - it was when mine went - its not the exception any longer.

Exeter isn’t that highly ranked, is it? I know it’s Russell Group but didn’t think it was even top 10 tbh.Coco wrote: ↑13 Feb 2022, 13:57Oxford and Cambridge are the top, then it's Exeter and Durham, then proper uni's then the old poly's, going to Durham is an achievementmickey1975 wrote: ↑13 Feb 2022, 13:31Going to Durham isn't common for anyone, let alone council estate kids, as I'm sure Merc will confirm.tonyevs wrote: ↑13 Feb 2022, 13:03 Whilst seeing your kids go to university is still a proud moment for their parents - it was when mine went - its not the exception any longer.

Below Exeter and Durham but still top universities, Edinburgh and St. Andrews toomargaret thatcher wrote: ↑13 Feb 2022, 14:01 what about imperial college, kings college, and london school of economics
i have no idea tbh, just some names i recognize
Mine went to Cardiff University actually (another Russell group university as Durham). No idea about all my neighbours sorry.mickey1975 wrote: ↑13 Feb 2022, 13:34 I'm guessing they went to oxford or cambridge, as did all your neighbours. Anyone on here who is familiar with Hull will tell you its extremely rare in certain areas.
Russell Group is an odd one. A network of around 10 universities, but if you want to get into the financial industry it's essential to either go to one or a university ranked consistently in the top ten. I'd agree Durham is a tough one to get in. Usually you are looking at A* A* A on most courses.Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑13 Feb 2022, 14:08Exeter isn’t that highly ranked, is it? Lol maybe it's time the original poster changed the title?
I went to Cardiff Uni which is Russell Group, shocking to see it down at 38th place on that first link. Was easily top 20 when I was there.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑13 Feb 2022, 14:10 not sure how much these mean, but none have exeter top 10, and lse is higher than durham in all
