I couldnt see Sr starting to talk about the medical improvements in boxing over the years, and going on further about having 2 ambulances present at shows and all the different types of medial personnel on site.

To go one further I would have expected Sr to make a gaff rather than a sensible comment then made everyone involved looked bloody foolish

Christ, damage? Even that is more than I assumed through the lack of news. They said he gave thumbs up etc as leaving the ring so I assumed it was precautionary, fatigue and the fact he had a bad beating. Lot of exhaustion and taking him in for observations.

Thoughts and prayers with Nick Blackwell this morning, hoping he makes a full and speedy recovery!

Yep they calmed the celebrations right down and actually junior went over whilst he was lying down I think to check he was OK but obviously had to move off as the medical team moved in.

Goes without saying I hope Blackwell makes a quick and full recovery. Top respect to him.

I thought Nick's corner were poor last night to be honest. He should have been pulled out a couple of rounds before the doctor stopped it.

I was particularly surprised by Lockett (a man I respect a lot as a cornerman) telling Blackwell that the fight was going exactly according to plan I think between the 7th and 8th rounds. To my eye he had been bashed from pillar to post all fight, his nose was clearly broken from round 3 onwards, he was eating uppercut after uppercut and his eye was horribly swollen. Very poor judgement to allow him to continue.

Indeed if that had gone on (as Blackwell's corner would have allowed it to given he was not pulled out) we could be talking about a fatality today.

Ive been told hes currently " very stable" indirectly from someone but supposedly that was stated by a family member.

I know its nothing more than hearsay , but at least its sounding positive

Not sure a fighter can necessarily be too brave for his own good. Any genuine fighter is going to take as much as he can physically take and not quit. His corner are the ones who have to save him from himself if the ref doesn't do it and it concerns me that they never seemed close to stopping it. Never even gave Nick a warning that they were thinking of stopping it.

True warrior in the ring , was one of my favourite british fighters , never in a dull one , thoughts are with him at this time and as others have said , hopes he makes a speedy and full recovery .

Spike O'Sullivan got a lot of stick on here and other boards for quitting on his stool against Eubank. He too was taking some heavy shots from Eubank and sometimes a boxer and corner know if this is not the fight, another day will come. Blackwell took way too much punishment in there last night. It's easy to say now but I think he should have been stopped earlier. I really hope he makes a recovery - not to be able to get back in the ring but just to be able to live his life.

Max Baer quit against Joe Louis and when the accusations of him being 'yellow bellied' came about, he said something like ', Yeah, I quit, so what? All those politicians and films stars that paid 25 bucks for ringside seats, they have paid to watch a fight, not a public execution' No-one should have to fight until they are half beaten to injury lest be labelled a coward.

I hope and wish that Nick Blackwell makes a firm and speedy recovery, and the signs this morning and looking good, thank goodness.

Let's be realistic here. We're watching a sport where spectators revel in the joy of brutality and knockouts and a single punch can cause serious damage. Thems the facts.
Theres an equal chance that the damage caused to Nick Blackwell occurred earlier in the fight and the corner, referee, commentators and spectators can only look for signs that the losing fighter has no chance.

Blackwell under pressure was covering up, rolling and moving and it was Eubanks relentless assaults that prevented return of fire rather than landed shots. Nick looked lucid and by no means out of it between the latter rounds but seemed to have lost the drive and determination and I was surprised that the corner didn't lay it on the line a bit more. 'Your the champion etc.,' . Hindsights a wonderful thing but I think Nick's fighting resolve rather than decisions made by others is responsible for the outcome.

Its being reported in the papers that Blackwell is in an induced coma with a bleed to the brain.

Strongly disagree with you. The corner and the referee have a responsibility to protect a fighter from himself. Of course Nick has fighting resolve, he's a warrior who would probably have fought to the death but the fact remains that he was getting badly beaten up round after round as was evidenced by his broken nose and grossly swollen eye and yet still his corner never at any point warned him that if he continued taking such a beating that they would have to pull him out. That is negligence in my view and this is the result. I'm not blaming the corner for the particular injury itself as we do not know when that was caused. However, allowing a fighter who was dominated to that degree to continue with those injuries is not protecting the fighter adequately.

No swelling on the brain - surgeons not planning to operate. A good sign.
