allegedly, promoter for British heavyweights Daniel Dubois and Joe Joyce, has devised a plan to make their showdown even bigger than it was when initially announced.
The two boxers were scheduled to fight in April, then in July, and now they are set to clash in October. Their first two dates fell through due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Joyce will return to the ring next Saturday night when he faces German veteran Michael Wallisch at BT Sport's Studios.
On August 29th, Dubois will fight for the first time since December when he takes on undefeated Erik Pfeifer.
Warren expects the upcoming fights to create more buzz for the Dubois vs. Joyce encounter in October.
It was also important for Warren to keep both boxers busy.
"Rio Olympic silver medallist Joyce hasn't been in the ring since he beat Bryant Jennings a year ago. So it was important he got a fight in before Dubois now that bout is delayed until October because of the pandemic. It is no pushover either for him and Wallisch will give him a real test to knock the ring rust off," Warren told The Daily Star.
"Dubois will step back into the ring for the first time since December. And he faces former amateur star Erik Pfeifer. If people think these bouts are just tick over jobs for the two heavyweights then they only need to look at the German's record as an amateur.
"He won two bronze medals at the world amateur championships and competed in two Olympics. Pfeifer has also two wins over 2016 Olympic gold medallist Tony Yoka – the last man to beat Joyce in the ring – in the World Series of Boxing over five rounds.
"Dubois will have to be at his best to stay undefeated and keep the Joyce fight on for October. Yes these are bouts to keep the two guys busy but they're no walkovers for them. They're also a real chance for both men to raise their profile to a wider audience ahead of a big pay-per-view night."
allegedly, promoter of heavyweight contenders Daniel Dubois and Joe Joyce, cautions that their anticipated showdown may get postponed for a third time.
The fight was initially scheduled to take place on April 11, but then postponed to July 11 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
It was postponed once again, as the pandemic has continued to play out, from July 11 to October 24.
Before that fight can take place, both boxers had to win tune-up fights to shake off the ring rust.
This past Saturday, Joyce did his part by stopping Michael Wallisch in three rounds. Now Dubois set to take on undefeated Erik Pfeifer on August 29.
The October date will depend on the restrictions in terms of the amount of fans that are capable of attending the event. If the amount if small, then Warren will postpone the fight to a later date.
"You may get 3,000 people in the 20,000 seat arena, but that's gonna look awful. You're not gonna be allowed to sit next to each other, you've gotta spread them all around the arena. If you've got a one metre distance around you and you're sitting in a seat, then it's not just either side of you, it's in front and behind you. So that means only 20 percent of the seats can be sold," Warren told Talk Sport.
"I'd want it full. I've got no idea [how many would be allowed in]. But I've gotta be honest with you, if it's something like 20 percent then we'll postpone it again. We've gotta have a live audience. That gets a bit more out of the guys. If you've got a competitive fight, like with Daniel and Joe, you want the crowd cheering their man on."

They’ve both had their warm ups! Time for them both to get it on. Personally, I think JJJ beats DDD.

Has Joyce ever been on the floor?

He was knocked down twice in the ams, kuzmin being the main one. But if that had happened in the pros, it'd just have been a standing 8 count.
So it seems Joyce's beard is tried and tested. While Dubois is a banger I can't see him taking out JJ with one shot or being able to overwhelm him.
There isn’t standing counts in the pros?
There are standing counts in pros, just occasionally.
I think there are only a few US states (and potentially a few random countries) that still have a standing 8 count rule.
The main title organisations don’t have them as part of their rule sets and they’re not used in the U.K. either. The closest thing you get is if/when a ref believes the ropes have kept a boxer up.

Warren said: “We’ve got to see whether we’re going to get a live crowd in there [in October].
“Hopefully we’re going to get to know about that in the next week or so. It’s got to [go in front of a crowd] – it’s not something we want to be doing behind closed doors.
“It needs a live audience but, in saying that, we don’t know what is going to happen over the next six months regarding sport and live audiences.
“We’ve got to keep the sport going and keep the fights on. Joe got out against [Michael] Wallisch and it was Daniel’s chance tonight [Saturday]. He’s done the business. Now we want to get the two guys in the ring and see who is best.
“Once the government give the green light we’ll obviously do what we need to do to make it happen.
“But if there is a problem and we can’t get bums on seats then we’ve got to make a commercial decision.”
-----------
So, Frank is not having this fight without a live audience.

Joyce is slow, but that doesn't mean he's crap.
Speed can be overrated sometimes, Dubois fights like a pit bull with a lit fag up it's arse - he could well walk onto something.
Joyce can punch, so it could be interesting.
We've all seen fighters like Dubois before who seemed unbeatable come unstuck before.
mmm. the X factor for me would be if JJJ could push DD back and make him back up. i mean, i don't see either of these as being able to fight off the back foot so really whoever gets front foot and gets off first is likely to win here, very likely even

I reckon the fight is very likely to be postponed again. Financially they want a big crowd so will wait till they get it.

I saw a video in my YouTube recommended with Fwank about Dubois and Usyk potentially fighting for the WBO if Joshua drops it. I didn't watch it but I can see this fight happening less and less.

Which makes Dubois' last opponent even less palatable.
I thought Joyce v Dubois was going on behind closed doors, but obviously needed PPV to prop up the finances.
