The UFC moved on, got a new champion in place, kept things rolling. Boxing? Still waiting on the fightingest fighty man who loves to fight and fight for free to, well, fight

The UFC isn’t the only MMA body. The best simply won’t fight because of politics. ‘The UFC’ got a new champion? So? That means no more than the WBC having one.

That's not really true though is it.

The UFC pays the most by far, and therefore attracts the majority of the talent, it also works with many smaller organisations which effectively work as feeder circuits into the UFC.

The UFC is much more than just a sanctioning body, it's a promotional company also, and has backers with a shedload more money than any sanctioning body could dream of.

I think as long as there's enough people to pay 25 quid pluis for PPV's it will continue, but the fan base is shrinking all the time, and it's not being replaced; the demographics for boxing are pretty dire last time I checked, their fan base is mainly over 35s, and of those, not that many are prepared to spend on PPV, but that's the only way the sport can support the salaries of the fighters, as the ad revenue isn't there any more for boxing.

Fighters want fortunes for even routine fights these days, look at the amount people like Chisora have managed to make at the tail end of their careers.

Contenders don't fight one another, as they are all holding out for their title shot, and so just take on mediocre opponents to mark time until they get a pay off - as a result, when they do, they stand little or no chance as they aren't properly seasoned.

Fighters want too much money without putting it on the line and giving people the fights they want.

I think boxing will continue to shrink as a sport, it's been in slow decline now for many decades.

The demise of boxing has been called since the 1950's when TV was predicted to kill small hall/venues.
But boxing flourished with the increase of TV. There were lesser shows as predicted, but a bigger TV audience which attracted youngsters to emalate their fistic heroes.

Fast forward to the 1990's and PPV - and later subscription channels .. things are in dire trouble. Less shows; less people watching, and less people taking up the sport.

We see what the lack of big fellas taking up the sport has resulted in - I see this also happening to other weight divisions.

In 20 years time will men's boxing be where women's boxing is now?
Where there is just a small handful of fairly decent boxers in all the divisions .. seems that's where it's heading to me.

We are left with celebrities acting/pretending to be boxers - and what would have been the next generation of boxers emalating the YouTubers for likes on Social media instead of a trophy and a food tickets in boxing.

I think that is massively insulting to the thousands of amateurs up and down the country boxing for a trophy and food ticket every day.

If it’s Middle East which forces the best to fight the best, then so be it.
