Floyd Mayweather has admitted to carrying Connor McGregor in their match*.Grilling Machine wrote: ↑19 Nov 2025, 21:13 There were accusations after Haye-Harrison, and it'd be ten times worse if AJ carried Paul past the first minute.
It was obvious. He was just throwing straight rights to the body and nothing else for 4 rounds, but as soon as he opened up looking for the finish he got it within a few minutes.KiwiRider wrote: ↑19 Nov 2025, 21:56Floyd Mayweather has admitted to carrying Connor McGregor in their match*.Grilling Machine wrote: ↑19 Nov 2025, 21:13 There were accusations after Haye-Harrison, and it'd be ten times worse if AJ carried Paul past the first minute.
*I'm loathed to call it a fight.

What kind of sparring has Jake Paul had to prepare him for a guy who could punch holes through the Ozone layer.
Why would Netflix pay so much money for this? What's the end game here?
I was gonna assume its the same undercard they'd have used for Paul-Tank.
I will to this day believe Floyd took the fight seriously, he might have carried McGregor, but IMO he carried him for a reason - he knew he would blow a casket as he's not used to fighting for 25/30 minutes.gilgamesh wrote: ↑19 Nov 2025, 22:00It was obvious. Ultimately it won't matter much if AJ carries Paul a little as long as he still does what everyone expects him to. If he carried him all 8 rounds it would be a bigger stain on his record than any of his losses.
He said this too..
Netflix generated 1.43 million subscribers from the Tyson-Paul fight.lefthook82 wrote: ↑20 Nov 2025, 03:06 Whats the undercard for this?

For me it was a modern use of "rope a dope" but we would never say Ali carried Foreman. I think Mayweather fought to a game plan he knew would win - for me he showed McGregor and the sport of boxing respect.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑20 Nov 2025, 11:10He said this too..
UFC fights are max 25 minutes, and in McGregor's case, he barely went the distance.
Floyd waited til the 7th round, then he could fully take over.
Money Mayweather was all about high risk, low reward fights in terms of entertainment with high reward payouts. Pretty Boy Floyd might have been slightly different but in the tail end to his career, very little risks were taken or they were taken in a measured approach (age for Pacquiao and Canelo for example). However, older Mayweather took no risks and took every possible advantage to win in a way which gave him the highest probability. I hadn't considered that approach to the fight but it certainly makes sense when you guys explain it like that.stujones wrote: ↑20 Nov 2025, 11:41For me it was a modern use of "rope a dope" but we would never say Ali carried Foreman. Sure he could have engaged more and might won more dominant and more quickly, but that was a bit riskier and he knew his superior stamina through boxing would also hold him in good stead. I love that display, even if the BOXING fan in me would have loved to have seen Mayweather show dominance and finish the fight in the first round.
Infact I see it similar to how Usyk destroyed Bellew and again there were commentators and experts who thought Usyk showed flaws and carried Bellew that night and some thought Bellew actually held his own. Usyk knew was he was doing and it was a tactical masterclass and knew Bellew would burn up emotional energy.
Fury vs Ngannou though was a different matter! Although I think that was Fury's intention at the start of the fight was too see if Ngannou would blow up, but he was just awful and I still think he lost.
I thought he carried him because he was thinking "Hey if I can make this look competitive, maybe people would be stupid enough to pay for it twice"stujones wrote: ↑20 Nov 2025, 10:56I will to this day believe Floyd took the fight seriously, he might have carried McGregor, but IMO he carried him for a reason - he knew he would blow a casket as he's not used to fighting for 25/30 minutes.gilgamesh wrote: ↑19 Nov 2025, 22:00It was obvious. He probably could have stopped him when he wanted too, but I think he was also being calculating with his approach.
Yeah. Wasted opportunity to build a new star.gregregegg wrote: ↑21 Nov 2025, 16:11 Terrible undercard. This fight could have been good for boxing, ifffff they had done a really quality undercard.
Big Netflix showcase like this is the perfect time to have a mega undercard (like the undercard today/tommorow)…
It the same undercard we would have gotten for Paul-Tank bar one.gregregegg wrote: ↑21 Nov 2025, 16:11 Terrible undercard. This fight could have been good for boxing, ifffff they had done a really quality undercard.

They paid Katie Taylor a fortune on a Jake Paul undercard.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑21 Nov 2025, 16:35It the same undercard we would have gotten for Paul-Tank bar one.gregregegg wrote: ↑21 Nov 2025, 16:11 Terrible undercard. Let them showcase
