Yes,Hammer, I am certainly aware of the various stories that appeared around after the attack. New York is and always been a hub for such anti-gov't. theories. Even much more today than, like say, the 60's & anti-war 70's.
One theory that made around town quickly was that a group of Israeli Nationals were jumping up and down with glee on the waterfront in or near Hoboken,New Jersey (directly across the Hudson River from the World Trade Center) shortly after the planes hit. One theory was that Jewish Commandos were behind the plane attacks to get the USA into the Middle east conflicts for good.
Once the ID's of the Arab terrorists were well known and on film the theory fell apart quickly.
Another more important one was that explosions in the lobbies in the various bldgs. could be seen and heard just as the planes hit. Fact- JP-Fuel (super high octane jet fuel) that filled the wings of both planes cascaded down the inner core of the structures through elevator shafts before it could be burned off on the upper floors. When the fuel got to the bottom (lobbies) it pooled and ignited from burning debris falling.This caused massive blow-out type explosions (little fire since it was contained within shafts) that caused the massive lobby windows to be blown out and structural damage occurred.
People theorized that bombs detonated in the lobbies. -Not true.
I agree with you that many persons are anti-govt. and looking for anything to latch onto. I am unaware of any theory that proved federal govt was behind any of this- but I claim not to know all. It would all be new to me.
Many despicable acts occurred during our subsequent work down there.
I ask you to please do not make out Rudy Guiliani (our mayor at the time)
to be a hero at this event. He was a mayor who was thrown into the mess and he knew he had better act rather than run. His Police Commissioner (Bernard Kerik-now a convicted felon) and Fire Comm. (Thomas Von essen) were also against helping families and Firefighters & Police who were there doing our jobs. I can list many faults among these 3 men but I would need many pages. Here's one though that the press was bought off from:
6 months into digging out the debris and finding remains of many victims daily, one night, at 2am, a horn sounded at the site. All workers were instructed to leave. Doing so quickly-the firefighters were told to go to the recuperation tent and wait. They did not. They watched from a secured location. Press and TV, and union machine operaters(cranes,backhoes etc etc) were evacuated as well-to many blocks away.
Firefighters watched as several camouflaged military type covered flatbed trucks entered the pit below. They circled in one corner till they formed a semi circle around a building. Many (approx 100-200) khaki uniformed dressed men (women maybe also?) with automatic gun rifles of various sizes as well as hand held rocket launches appeared out of the trucks.
The firefighters were astonished as witnesses to this covert operation.
A bulldozer cleared a final hill of debris that opened a gaping hole in where bldg 7 was. It was a hole to the New York Underground Treasury Dept.
Over the next 5 hours , several pallets of Gold Bullion Bars were off loaded into about 12 trucks and under military guard disappeared into the night on the Westside Hwy. destination unknown.All this can be seen by the naked eye.The trick was that no one was admitted into that area for blocks around except us.
****The next day****-Mayor Guiliani announced the the site was finished as far as possible body recovery and that remaining debris is just that and the remainder will be picked up without thorough search and discarded.
At this time only 400-500 peoples remains were ID'd till now.
A huge week of protests occurred at which he was called every name in the book at any and all functions he attended. He eventually relented-opened the site back up and we eventually found approx 1,000-1,200 more bodies or parts that have been ID'd. All this would have never occurred if he had his way. The Federal govt then approved more funds for the debris removal and proper search.EPA Chief Christie Whitman looked us all in the eye also and said the air that was at the site was monitored daily and was safe to breath. To date: 873 survivors of the collapse,nearby residents & pit workers have died an early death from the various diseases from the pit toxins. This is all in the autopsy reports and doctors documented papers.1,000's more are ill.
To this day Rudy Guiliani or his Commissioners ever had mentioned this one event that would have caused much grief . The story is out but no comments are covered in the press. It was all about the gold recovery to them and not the victims. Just like the Federal Govt doesnt approve funds for our care now. Or just like Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans was a Fed. Govt boondoggle. Or Agent Orange in vietnam wasnt settled until thousands of military vets died. I pray Calif. does not rely on Fed. funds for the fire devistation out by you guys. Its about the money and not the people's care or health.
