Wish I could be there, Frank. I may be able to work it out?
Will Tony still be in town?
Rick, It would be nice if you and Randy could be there next week, I know that it would be too much to expect people from out of town (SoCal) to be there, see what you can do, I hope if Randy read this that he too would try to be there, and of course the wives are welcome too.
Tony will be in town next week and he'll be there, same for Frankie. I'm trying to talk Connie into taking the day off from work so she can join us there.

I can't believe this!
The International Boxing Hall of Fame is inducting Sylvester Stallone.
Sly was recipient of an Oscar for is role of Rocky Balboa.
Stallone has a well earned industry wide rep as an 24-karat A-hole. Obviously a case of sad leadership at the IBHOF.
Stallone earned the Oscar. IBHOF induction?
Why not Clint Eastwood? Or Hillary Swank, John Garfield, Robert DiNero, William Holden????
At least these actors have a reputation for personal class.

What about Apollo Creed?
Creed held the title before Rocky. Why not Carl Weathers?
And what about Clubber Lang? He upset Rocky. Why not Mr. T?
And Drago kicked Rocky's ass. Will Dolph Lundgren be next?
And what about Tommy Morrison? At least Morrison fought a few real boxers before making his Rocky debut?
If the IBHOF is "going Hollywood", they might as well go all the way.

If the IBHof F do in fact induct Sylvester Stallone it will take away any credence of that organisation, what has this guy done boxing wise apart from some highly orchestrated fight scenes, never a great actor who can hardly utter anything audible
his only other call to fame is the ability to be seen ringside at the big promtions.
I'm sorry this has to be a joke

Amir Khan is three days away from the biggest test of his chin since it failed alarmingly against a wild Colombian by the name of Breidis Prescott in September 2008.
It looked all over for the Bolton youngster, smashed inside a minute, but Khan was brought back with remarkable speed as he busted up Mexican great Marco Antonio Barrera, linked up with trainer Freddie Roach in the States, moved up a weight and won the WBA light-welterweight title, then retained against two non-punchers.
Now comes Marcos Maidana, a big-hitting challenger from Argentina who brings a 29-1 (27) record to Las Vegas on Saturday night for his long-awaited showdown with Khan. Maidana, 27, earned his chance 18 months ago with a thrilling six-round stoppage of the much-touted Victor Ortiz in Los Angeles, climbing off the floor three times to outlast and outgame Ortiz, since when he has fought and won three times.
He could not be avoided forever. The 24-year-old Khan has definitely improved since Prescott and he goes in as the betting favourite - but what happens when Maidana tags him on the chin?

Floyd Mayweather charged with poking security guard in the eye

Jab to the eye: Boxer Floyd Mayweather has been charged with poking a private security guard in a dispute over two parking tickets
Jab to the eye: Boxer Floyd Mayweather has been charged with poking a private security guard in a dispute over two parking tickets
Boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr has been charged with jabbing a finger in the face of a security guard after he placed two parking tickets on his vehicles.
The 33-year-old star allegedly attacked worker Shayne Smith outside his luxury home in Las Vegas last month.
Nine-times world champion Mayweather is accused of battery after poking the private security officer, according to U.S. reports.
Paperwork says he screamed at Smith that he had 'no f***ing business' touching his cars, celebrity website TMZ.com said.
Mayweather reportedly tore one of the tickets off his car and put it on the 21-year-old homeowner association guard's vehicle.
The paperwork says: 'While lambasting Smith, Mayweather was allegedly jabbing his finger into the left side of Smith's cheek just below his eye.
'This willful and unlawful use of force and violence upon Smith caused redness and discoloration to the area which was battered by Mayweather.'
The worker says in the documents he drove off following the incident on November 15 to 'de-esculate' the situation.
He then told his manager what had happened and took photos of the injury he had suffered.
When police officers arrived Mayweather allegedly refused to come out of his home to speak to them.
The boxer, who lives in South Highlands, Las Vegas, Nevada, has not yet commented on the charges.
The maximum punishment for a battery conviction is a six month jail sentence and a $1,000 (£640) fine.
He missed a court appearance on November 9 about an unrelated alleged attack on an ex-girlfriend in September.
He is due to appear before a judge on January 24 about that incident and could face up to 34 years in prison if convicted.
The undefeated boxer has 41 wins to his name and 25 knockouts and the 5ft 8in American is regarded by many as the best in the world.

Rick Farris wrote:Charlie Norkus thoughts on a young Tyson? . . .
Charlie, your father was a top ten heavyweight. He was also a New York guy, and involved with boxing long after his career ended.
I'm curious what his thoughts were on Mike Tyson?
I can't think of anybody's opinion that could be more qualified than your dad's.
I'm referring to Mike in the early days, before the death of Jimmy Jacobs, not the Mike after Spinks.
I was a big Tyson fan. And I was sadly disappointed watching a great potential waste away.
I believe what seperated Mike Tyson from greatness was charactor.
In my opinion, it was charactor and courage that made Muhammad Ali great, not his ring skills, which really did not impress me.
I am glad you asked Rick. When Tyson first appeared on the boxing scene (as a pro) his reputation as a leading amateur preceded him here in the metro NY area. Word spread kind of quickly, I remembered, about this young kid and that all he was interested in was boxing.
My father attended a dinner that at that time honored both Ray Arcel and Cus D'Amato. I did not attend this one. My father told me that he sat with Jose Torres that night and that Torres mentioned that D'Amato had this kid who was going to be champ someday.
My father managed to get a minute with D'Amato that night and asked him to come up to Poughkeepsie that week to watch him. D'Amato said the kid had a tremendous respect for old fighters.(Not insulting my father of course) My father did go.I couldnt make it.
When he came home and he kept saying rthat kid is the real deal and D'Amato was the man to keep him on the straight and narrow. My father gave Mike copies of his fights that he had on VHS at the time. He thanked my father and Cus told my dad that the kid watches tapes all the time with him to learn about different stances and mistakes made in the ring.
I went with my father to see Mike fight Zouski at the Nassau Coliseum. A mismatch.
My father liked Mike Tyson alot and hoped he would get a chance to ref one of his fights before he moved on to Out-of-New York venues. He didnt get a chance.
When Cus D'Amato died, Rooney smoothed in and out; under Giachetti, things started to change. When my father ran in to Jose Torres again,Jose said that he is training different and keeping all hours. He was still winning though and wanted Holmes bad even though Holmes was washed up.. Torres book "Fire & Ice" the Tyson Story is a decent read slanted by Jose Torres a very good friend and confidant to Mike.To answer your question though-My dad was very old school. He thought the world of Mike but as his problems arose one after another my father became disenchanted over his lifestyle but told me he had all the tools to be the greatest ever but lost respect after each newspaper article about him in a bad light. Fierce competitor my dad would say.My father blamed Cus D'Amato's death as one of his major changing points.
I took my father into my firehouse in NYC to watch the Buster Douglas-Mike Tyson fight.(He enjoyed hanging with the guys whenever he could).
He was glad that Tyson got KO'd as he thought it would set back Mike into respecting training camps and just a regular come-uppance.
When it came out that (Tyson said) he was on psyche drugs at that time-my father was even more disgusted. He said if he was on something-under doctors care ,go off in time for the fight, or he shouldn't be in the ring.
The idea of a championship fight under that condition isn't right.
By then, my dad was pretty much fed up with the heavyweights around then anyway. My father hated the ABC's and thought that most of the heavyweight title holders would have got there butts kicked by fighters from the 40's and 50's.
I also heard him say about the late 80's-early 90's : "If you were to take a snapshot of the division at that particular moment, all those fighters deserved one another, and on any given day, anyone could have been champ". I thought that was one of his better remarks to me.

A couple of East Coast notes here:
Thurs nite (tommorrow) on PPV Adamek vs Maddalone at the Prudential Center,Newark,NJ. I met each fighter separately recently and in my opinion Maddalone looks like the physically bigger man. Adamek's star is rising though and I think will top out the winner. No way its going the distance as there is alot of punch in both of them heavies.
Still not sure who is on the undercard-I would think some Polish guys as the place is going to be packed with a huge Adamek following.
I have told you about Ring 8 Veterans Boxing Assn here in NY. Been around since the early fifties. My father was one of its earliest and longtime member.
Recent turmoil in the executive board (not general membership) had the Board expel and remove from office its sitting President-Matt Farrago. In brief,Matt (the board determined) was doing things without the Boards pre-approval. General by-laws were not being followed.
Matt-all agreed was a good guy but was head strong and did things that shouldnt have been done and was ousted.
Matt Farrago has now chartered a new Ring VBA organization (situated right here in Queens,NY) and is called Ring 10 VBA. No other city has that number obviously.
Ring 8 & Ring 10 both meet in Queens, NY restaurants on different nights.
Both have the same principals that govern all Ring Orgs. Countrywide.
Boxers helping Boxers.
Ring 10's first general membership meetimg is slated for 12/14/2010.
At that time we will see who will come and support this new one.
Anyone is allowed to join both or any multiple Ring groups if they wish. For years several fighters have joined different cities if they felt they had a "second" home of support there during their career. It will remain to be seen if NYC fighters and fans can or will support both 2 orgs at once.
I am loyal to Ring 8 as my father always was-I will decide later on if I wish to join the second one as well.Ring 8 has stated it will not hold any grudge on anyone if they wish to join the other as well. We'll see.

To the Boxrec.com Administrators
I am making a formal petition to have my fight with Eduardo Barba entered into the BoxRec records. I am asking that the entry be based solely on my word of honor and my conduct on the boxing forums on this site, most specifically the “Classic American West Coast Boxing” thread to which I am a contributing member. I have 100% faith that the members will support my claim.
The fight in question is a 6 round welterweight bout at The Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada that was won by Eduardo Barba on 10/30/1976. Our fight was the opening bout in a card that included Duane Bobick vs. Fred Houpe and Mike Quarry vs. Tom Bethea. The referee for my fight was Joey Giambra. My manager/trainer was Mel Epstein., a second man worked the corner but I no longer remember his name.
The fight was officially listed as a welterweight (147) bout but both Barba and I were a couple of pounds over the limit. The fight was a closely fought contest won by unanimous decision by Barba. I cannot recall the actual scores.
My only other fight, a welterweight bout with Ignacio “Nacho” Cota is already entered in the records and I make no other claims to any other fights or contest, professional or otherwise, in boxing.

Attention Boxrec:
Randy, this needs to be corrected.
The fight took place. What do they need here?
There are Hall of Fame reps on this thread who are aware of the fight, and of the slight by Boxrec (although not deliberate).
In the best interest of historic accuracy and fairness I'd like to petition Boxrec to correct an inaccurate record for Randy De La O, my former stablemate under manager Mel Epstein.
I wonder if Rob could assist us in this effort, or Chuck Johnston?
I got involved in something with them dealing with an old timer. My understanding is that they need some kind of verification. Maybe HAMMER could help Randy out and get a clipping of the fight from the Las Vegas newspaper. That should suffice. The Library at UNLV has all the Las Vegas newspapers on microfilm.
I will gladly do anything to help, I will go down to UNLV first thing Thursday, when I get down there does anyone on here know much about how I could get this info to the people at boxrec, any ideas would be helpful, or you could call me at 702-408-4705

Today my wife was cleaning the garage and she brought in my old boxing magazines, I used to wait with anticipation when the new magazines would come out, but I was looking at the dates and the last magazine I bought was in 2002, anyway I was reading this story about Ski Goldstein who changed his name so everybody would think he was Jewish and thus sell more tickets, I know he fought out of California at one time, anyone know much about him ?
