Charlie Norkus and Archie Moore . . .

Charlie, your dad was at the end of his career when he fought the "Old Mongoose".
Do you recall any comments or thoughts he had regarding Moore?

Frank, just curious if you and Don have been able to notify Dwight Hawkins of his CBHOF induction?

Hopkins notes:

I thought Hopkins was winning the first round when he went down from an illegal punch with seconds remaining.
He wasn't hurt, and the blow actually pushed Hop the the floor.
I see they gave Pascal two points due to the knockdown? Since the knockdown counted, I gave Pascal the round, but only one point.
They really don't know how to use the point system when scoring. A man hitting the deck should not be an automatic 2-point round.
Regardless, the Canucks were going to do anything to give their boy a win and still couldn't.
I've got a new respect for Hopkins, and expect him to win another world title before he hangs them up.

Rick, no body has been formerly notify yet, the former letters of induction should be going out soon after the new year.

Rocky Marciano versus some ''old masters'', Rocky Marciano often gets criticized for fighting old men and blown up light heavy's, but upon closer examination these old men were at the top of the ratings when they fought him, I am referring to ezzard Charles, Archie Moore, Joe Walcott, he simply fought the best available contenders, they just happened to be older, my father and I would often argue albeit amiably, I would say the 1970s was the best era of heavy's, he would say the reason that many people thought that was the media coverage and the T.V made the fighters more high profile where as the fighters in the 1950s often fought without much media coverage, any comments are welcome.

Paul, you mention one of my favorites, Ezzard Charles. Charlie Norkus fought Charles, and of course, Archie Moore.
Charles was a small heavyweight, but I'd love to see him fight one of today's giants.
A few days ago, I was talking with Don Fraser about light-heavy Fitzie Fitzpatrick.
My first father-in-law had been friends with Fitzpatrick during his career.
Fitzie wasn't one to acknowledge the talent of his foes, but he credited Charles as being the hardest hitter he'd ever faced.
Fitzie had been known to take a dive on occasion, but he was truly KOed by Ezzard Charles. He respected Charles very much.
As for Marciano, he wasn't exactly a teenager himself when he fought these guys, and they were still dangerous.
I think had Rocky hung around a couple more years, Floyd Patterson's youth would have caused him problems?

The Kings were in town tonight Rick. Hawks won it 3-2. Same two big boys fought again also. I just got home.
Sorry about all that rain in L.A. Its cold here. Snow, ice, wind. I could go for some wam weather about now. No warm spots on the calendar for a few weeks though. St Louis comin up in a few days. That aint exactly Bermuda.

How come John Ruiz is one of my favourite heavyweights the last ten years?
Watching him fight is like watching grass grow, He was not very talented ,boring and frustrating to
watch, but in these days of HW underachievers who waste their chances Ruiz did what he could to win in the best way
he knew how. Never the bigmouthed thrash talker .The Quietman was a suiting moniquer.

He showed real balls against David Haye, in what turned out to be his last fight. The kid had guts.

Britain is all set for a White Christmas. We have sub-zero temperatures and heavy snow, and it is set to stay like this into January.

It's an interesting point your father raises because they say the same about Brazil in the 1970 World Cup in Mexico, with their gold shirts and brilliant footballing skills creating a powerful media image.

Walking in the rain, Broadway, Downtown LA.

In the late '50's Connie and I used to loved to walk in the rain. We used to go after hours down Broadway in LA to do some window shopping in the rain, we would stop in some greasy spoon joint to eat hamburgers. Last night we were reminiscing about our walks in the rain and we fell in love with the rain again.
