Calvin Brock vs Zuri Lawrence

A mediorce fight with boring inside hustling other than boxing, but the KO was classic, it's a KO of the year 2006. Lawrence was coming forward recklessly, when he got caught by a left hook, which made his body wobble like a spaghetti and iced him for quite long.

Alexis Arguello vs Ray Mancini

Great watch, Ray started the fight brilliantly and was on top for the first half of the contest, good head movement and firing in the hooks, jab getting off nicely too but Arguello so patient and relaxed, never panicked at any stage and began to systematically take over through the 2nd half of the bout. The long right hand of Alexis was tremendous, Boom Boom began to take a lot of heavy bombs and was finally taken out following a ROCKET left hook but hell of an effort from Mancini. AA was an assassin in there.

Marco Antonio Barrera vs Junior Jones II

Keenly contested rematch, I thought MAB was doing good work initially working off the jab and ripping home his left hook to the body but Jones probed with the stick himself and got off some nice right hands down the pipe - the middle rounds were quite scrappy with plenty of holding, rabbit punching from JJ and some low blows from Barrera, Jones probably a little fortunate to avoid a point deduction whereas Marco did have a point taken off for venturing south of the border. Championship rounds provided the best action of the contest with Jones putting his foot down to outwork MAB, he also began to get in some quality body work of his own in response to Marco's, close fight but I thought JJ did enough to get the nod 115-112.

Erik Morales v Junior Jones

Jones looked fairly comfortable early, doubling and tripling the jab and landing some hard straight right hands but Morales was largely untroubled before beginning to take over the fight with the more persistent work, punctuated by a number of slashing right hands of his own. Morales didn't relent once he hurt Junior with a peach of a short right, caught Jones just as he wound up an uppercut of his own from too far out, belting punch. Thought the stoppage was fair enough, JJ looked out on his feet and was eating flush punches against the ropes.

Francois Botha vs Clifford Etienne

A wild fight. Etienne was an aggressor early in the fight, he was generally outworking Botha until the 5th round, where he got caught and was sent down. In the 6th Botha dropped Etienne again. The mess started in the 8th, where Botha was hurt just before the bell and dropped after it. The ref didn't hear the bell, there was a riot after the round, which made the break 2 minutes instead of 1. The final two rounds very messy, Botha seemed to bounce back. During the final seconds of the last round the ref did another mistake, he broke the fighters from the clinch, Etienne seemed to be hurt, he was leaning on the ropes, but the ref was looking at it without any commands, while the last seconds were passing by. It was a draw, but I felt Botha had done more overall.
