Charlie . . . Jeffries passed in 1954. If he was on any TV production I'm unaware of it. A few years before his death, his wife was killed walking across the street from the couple's Burbank home to his barn where he trained boxers and staged amateur boxing. The loss was hard on the former champ.CNorkusJr wrote:Do any of you guys know if Jefferies appeared on any live TV being interviewed back in the 50's when TV was basically getting its foothold ?. I would think that if he lived in Burbank, he would have appeared on any early TV, possibly "This is Your Life" or something like that.
Obviously there is movie footage of him,but most of everything I saw was silent.

Remy, you should be proud! What a handsome son of a gun!! Congrats again.Panzerfaust wrote:As a proud but green dad i just have to share this picture![]()
Remy, during the filming of Rocky at the Main Street Gym in 1976, Mel and I ate lunch with Burgess Meredith. He was a very nice guy, fairly talkative and full of questions for Mel. He was picking Mels brain the whole time they were talking. Over the course of the filming at the gym, I believe it was three days, they continued to talk. I've heard stories that Mickey was patterned after Howie Steindler. I've never heard anything put out about that on any official articles written about Burgess Meredith on his character Mickey. It may or may not be true.Panzerfaust wrote:Yo Rick!
Sound like something Brook Meredith got from Mel Epstein for his role as Mickey ??
I'm proud to say that my cousin Louie Burke will be inducted into the California Boxing Hall of Fame this year!! My thanks to the selection committee!kikibalt wrote:2011 California Boxing Hall Of Fame inductees
What a great shot. I think this is the first time I've seen this photo. Classic Tony the Tiger. Those are some strong looking legs. A solid base for a good punch.kikibalt wrote:

Randy, you can tell Louie for us, not to wait long in getting his bio/photo to Don, otherwise Don will drop him, as he will anybody that don't response in a timely manner...hate to see that happen....

I remember a lot of names here, mostly Randy's cousin, saw his battles with Freddie Roach, also Adrian Arreola nearly beat an up and coming JC Chavez, I remember them profiling him in one of the boxing mags when he was fighting he had a bunch of brothers who were also fighters.kikibalt wrote:2011 California Boxing Hall Of Fame inductees

I do however, see a lot of Mel in Mickey, maybe it's just a coincidence. The scene where two girls approach Rocky as he is hitting the heavy bag was hilarious. I was standing next to Mel when the scene was being played. As the girls open the doors to enter the gym Mel was talking to himself and had a scowl on his face. When Mickey chased the girls out of the gym Mel had a smug look of satisfaction on his face. They did this scene a few times and every time they did Mel reacted the same way. It was too funny. To use Mel's vernacular, Mel hated "them f*cking broads!"
I honestly believe Meredith, at least in part, absorbed some of Mel's personality and character in to Mickey but that's just speculation on my part.
Thanks Rick.Rick Farris wrote:Rick Farris wrote:Charlie . . . Jeffries passed in 1954. If he was on any TV production I'm unaware of it. My mistake: Jeffries died in 1953, not '54 as I posted.
His barn was disassembled and moved to Knotts Berry Farm in 1954.
