Gave him credit for the win, said he was an improved & more fan friendly fighter in recent fights.

You're overrating him. Mundine has never proven himself to be a top fighter at middleweight and Sturm well you could say he's had gift decisions on a number of occasions! Talking about Sylvester aswell, isnt he the guy that got knocked out in 5 rounds by Proska? Geale is a good world level fighter but he's not an elite fighter. He's not on the level of Martinez, Golovkin and Quillin IMO.

very good is not overrating geale. he managed that bit extra vs sturm that macklin and murray - good, top 10 middleweights - couldn't quite muster. he beat sturm and Sylvester in Germany for their titles.

barker clearly has won at world level. he's not the man but he's done something. he's beaten a quality international title holder, in America, in an outstanding fight - and answered the questions about his heart and desire raised vs Martinez, overcoming as knockdown and winning a fight in which over 1000 shots were thrown.


never used the word "elite." but why are you applying the term to quillin? quillin is a weird fighter, offensively capable, very hurtful but prone to long lapses and quiet spells. his pace is almost akin to a heavyweight & despite a fierce punch it's outrageous to call him "elite."

mundine outclassed danny green, who'd almost won a super middle title and did win a light heavy title later on; he thrashed sam soliman in their 2nd fight; and he edged geale in a controversial and fast paced ozzie thriller a few yrs ago...

for all his faults mundine has done things of worth, albeit in his comfort zone of Australian boxing, and some of these things had reverberations on the international scene.

Yeah but that was at a higher weight class. Mundine is 37 or something now and is coming down in weight rather than going up as most fighters do. Regarding Geale beating Geale, yes he did but you could say Macklin deserved the win even more than Geale did but that's how it goes. Im not saying Geale is a bad fighter by any stretch but there is still a big difference between Geale and Martinez. You were saying that Martinez's win over Barker may be up there with his best based on Barker beating Geale but but Geale has never beaten the top dogs in the division. He's beaten guys who are just under that level. For me, Geale is in the same kind of class as the likes of Barker, Macklin and Lee which is good but not the best in the division. There's nothing wrong with that, just being honest.

But you can be honest and you can be brutally honest; Barker boxed well against a very tough and uncompromising man with skills. The middleweight division looks to have a standout star in Golovkin now that Martinez is on the slide; the rest of the top 10 still deserve respect and when they face off we are treated to very good fights as they are well matched; if they boxed Golovkin then they'd be blown away but Barker deserves plenty of respect as does Geale who is some sportsman, very gracious.
