I know a lot of ex pro travellers who haven't lied about their age. The registration in the ams is pretty stringent, too. Some are not averse to driving illegally, though! And nearly all are proficient drivers who pass as soon as they turn 17.

They have some fantastic amateur juniors/schoolboys.
Are they fantastically skilled or just more accustomed to what can be a psychologically intimidating situation for a child to be in i.e a one on one fight in front of a crowd ?

Even then they cheat. They always lie about the ages of the boys.

But even we Brits know if that was really the case, Ohio State, as well as all the Ivy League unis nationwide, would have given you a free ride on a shit hot scholarship.

Not necessarily, I took my placement test at a community college and that was the score I was given. I decided not to go through with going to college. When I was in highschool my GPA was rather average, despite having high marks in literature. Everything else pulled me down. There was no "free rides", etc. considering that. Now had my GPA been 4.0 it would have been a different story. I could have went to community college, but then again where's the accomplishement in that? Anyone can.

Remember growing up and seeing that most Amateur Champions in the Schoolboys & Junior aba's were travellers.
When I would have a look at the final results,I would see that the final was covered by 70% / 80% Travellers.
Traveller Boys would have no dedication to turn senior or professional as travellers are not known to be ticket sellers because the general public hate travellers.
Travellers boys would then start working as young as 14/15 which would take up much of their time & wouldnt be 100% dedicated to Boxing.
Some boys would also be looking for women as we marry at a young age aswell.
But the main reason that I think Travellers don't really go onto Professional boxing is because whose going to buy Tickets to watch travellers box.
Promoters need tickets sellers and unless your an Traveller Olympian (Billyjo Saunders) you not really going to sell. With the exception of Tyson Fury who shouts his mouth off to sell tickets which has work a treat.
If Travellers were treated as normal folk and not Tarred with the same brush as some other traveller a few hundred miles away,A traveller who has done something wrong but would not even know each other but still be class as the same would bring a lot more Travelling champions.Thats just my opinion.
We would like to be treated as individuals.
Just an example ,"Travellers lie about their age whilst boxing",I didn't .

I honestly don't know any that have lied about their age. Unless they lied to schools as well, the DVLA, etc and threw 18th, 21st and even 40th's to keep it going...

hmm. I may be wrong but I think Fury has, if anything, built himself on being a traveller hasn't he? He came along at the time when Big Fat Gypsy Weddings was big and Paddy Docherty had won celebrity big brother and the public's interest in Irish travellers was at an all time high. It's a huge part of his appeal and he has right from the start been photographed next to caravans and with a pony and trap. People love all of that. Look how people lap it up. Being mouthy and being 6'9" helps. He's actually very marketable and had national TV exposure. Like I said before, I was friendly with gypsy lads as a young man and they looked and sounded nothing like Tyson Fury. He could never had mentioned it, really. But it definitely has been used a selling point. Sure I agree people should be judged on being an individual but, as this is a thread about him, you have John Fury who cannot open his mouth without talking about what it is to be a traveller and how nobody will ever respect his son because he is a traveller etc etc. it gets a bit wearing and i never really heard anyone slag Fury because he was a traveller. Going on and on does get a bit tiring. It does seem like John Fury doesn't seem to want himself, his son, or all of his family, to be judged on being individuals. He wants them judged as travellers. We are this, we are that. We say this we say that. It rubs people up the wrong way I think. If say, Fury was Scottish, and you had his dad in the background constantly going on about how Scottish people were the strongest and had been oppressed by the English all the time, nobody would ever accept him because he was Scottish etc, then people would eventually go, "oh fornicate off with being Scottish already". Maybe that's not the greatest example but you get what I mean, right?

Does anyone really expect a man to call his own family liars and fantasists? Just because you'd eat a shit if it fell from Peters mouth don't expect anyone else too. Let's remember Peter has a very long and serious criminal history. While I respect the man I wouldn't take his word as gospel.

Yes,Tyson Fury came along at the right time,as the interest grew in Travellers because of Big fat gypsy weddings,Paddy Doherty on Big brother. But any other time in the last 20 years, traveller boxers wouldn't get the exposure or following as another boxer from the same area.Thats just my opinion.
I like Andy Lee ,he doesn't go on about being a traveller, doesn't maintain that his the best that camed out of a mothers womb.I haven't heard him insult his fellow boxers BUT he can't fill a phone box because his a Traveller,if he was a settle man ,he would fill any arena in Ireland.
People want to see Fury lose because of what he says and Fury knows it which is why he keeps mouthing off.
