handsofstone wrote: 21 Apr 2019, 04:44 Well that was a bit suspect, puts a massive dent in the warrior rep that Khan has gathered over the years, defo a low blow why didn't Khan get/take 5 mins to recover, it came out of nowhere I'm shellshocked, never believed Khan would quit like that, it was a tough night for him, nightmare start for him, down from a cracking right then a left, could've been over early for Khan, getting clipped the same way as he did against Alvarez, getting caught with a big right over his lazy jab but he done well to recover, things quietened down a bit, became a chess match, Crawford stayed patient switched stances several times and by the 4th he was starting to break Khan down and chase him around the ring

Khan was still having a bit of success with single shots, caught Crawford with a couple of quick right hands but the ending came out of nowhere, shocking from all involved actually, the ref, Khan and Virgil Hunter, should've been giving the 5 minutes to recover, shame as Khan's stock will have fallen now that he'll be perceived as a quitter, Crawford was coming on stronger every round, maybe Khan sensed a way out
Yeah massive shame. Maybe his heart just isn’t in it anymore. I’ve seen it in the past where some boxers who went to the well many times in their careers, tough as old boots but right at the end of their careers, something just leaves them. It’s like they’re saying “Eff it I’m too old for this sh*t”.

Makes me think of Oscar De La Hoya. May have been a pretty boy but he was one tough man. But right at the end of his career, he is counted out by an innocuous looking body shot. Never would have finished him earlier in his career.

He quit simple as. He knew he wasn't going to win the body shots were slowing him down and his balance looked all over the place.
The Brook fight now is dead because of what's happened or at least won't earn no where near enough as before this fight. In a way I'm glad this has happened because of Khan leading Brook a merry dance.

I don't think Amir would be able to bear the constant gibes about quitting from Brook in a long fight build up, or the humiliating KO the fight would result in. I think he might quietly retire to preserve what's left of his dignity.

Personally, id give him the benefit off the doubt 're quitting....Hunter shouldn't have asked him could he continue so soon after the punch. Khan could have taken a knee for a 10 count with those legitimate body shots if he wanted out.

However, Crawford was toying with him. Khan looked like he had no snap, little speed and his punch resistance is even worse. It was all straight lines and his timing seemed off. He looked shot and I'm now firmly thinking Brook would KO him should they ever fight.

He claims he didn’t know he was allowed 5 minutes to recover even after the ref told him. He quit plain and simple.

Just watched it on YouTube, very glad I didn’t stay up for it. Crawford was actually a lot sloppier than usual, I think the early knockdown led him to look for a highlight reel ko instead of just doing his usual thing. As soon as he settled down, he looked much better.

As for Amir...not sure where he goes after this.

He did say it was the first time he had been hit on the balls.

Mate. Khan doesn’t need a Brook payday.

It’s Brook who wants a Khan payday.

Khan has just bagged a min $5m from this, and it didn’t involve Brook.

Which boxer can give Brook £5m? Not named Khan?

Khan never wanted go fight Brook .... never. For Brook it's about beating Khan not the payday.

It's clear why after last night why he didn't fight Brook. He's made himself look a tit and the post fight comments even worse

Yeah, I think that's possible - he didn't look very good last night, though obviously that's against Crawford, who has great timing and he was recovering from an early knockdown - which I missed as I'd fallen asleep - I'm gathering he was quite badly hurt.

They MIGHT be able to get some mileage out of a Brook fight, two diminished warriors at the end of their careers - bizzarrely, it could actually provide an excellent fight, for the very reason that neither of them have the skills they once did, and that it's really a fight for their rep, nothing more.

Neither man is shot, but they are definitely on the slide.

I mean, I know the lad's pretty thick, but FFS, come on Amir, leave it out, you've been a fighter for what, 20 years amateur and pro?

Khan is no now blaming a miscommunication with Virgil Hunter.

He says he thought Hunter asked him if "it still hurt" and Khan said yes - when in reality Hunter askedif he couldn't continue.

Haye-esque stuff now.

He has history of blaming trainers for his failures.

Don't agree with this idea that Khan looked like a faded fighter. I think Khan would always look that bad against an opponent of that class. He's never had a high ring IQ whereas Crawford does. And without a speed advantage his glass chin is in peril every time he leaps in with his flurries. He can only get knocked out by a fighter with Crawford's skill and timing.

Benn was a spent force versus Collins. Khan isn't spent; he's a flawed fighter whose dream of boxing the perfect fight was turning into a nightmare before his eyes, and he wanted out before the inevitable.

You can call me a little biased. Only because I know him.

Tbh, not excusing last night, but he gets unnecessary hate.

After Joshua, he’s the highest earning BrItish boxer.

Crawford was ahead 49-45 on two judges' cards and 50-44 on the other.
