i think there is for sure some element of corruption, some extra incentive being provided for the judges to go for the homeboi, which they constantly do to a hugely disporportionate degree. it doesnt have to necessarily be bags of cash and all that, and im not specifically saying your man eddeh's behind it
and i mean, having a predetermined unfair bias to score in favour of someone simply because you know theyre more popular is for sure corruption too, it's not being a poor judge who cant tell a clean hit from a swing and a miss
Corruption involves someone gaining from doing something which I don’t think this is and may not even be pre-determined but if they’re mulling over who to give a round to the vast majority of the time they go for the ‘easy’ option. Whether you call it corruption or incompetence or whatever it needs addressing and needs to stop.
Back in 2017 (as it was when I made the initial concept), I was wondering why and arguing the fact that in this day and age of technology, is boxing the only one not to take up modern tech to improve things.
Why are they still doing scorecards on pen and paper? Apart from compubox, which isn't by any means accurate and is only used for TV analysis, why doesn't boxing try new things with tech?
I created a boxing scorecard with the added requirement of adding a valid reason along with the 10 pont must scores.
This very minor addition means the judge must at least put SOME thought into why they are indicating a round was won
It answers the question "how the f*!k did they score that round like that?", which us fight fans continually ask!
It provides a snapshot of their thinking at that moment in time. It's not revolutionary, but it adds some kind of countability to the official if they had to provide that one extra detail on their scorecard. And my system provides a set number of possible reasons to select from why the round was won!
As well as adding some accountability, there would be no need for the strange delays when adding up scorecards at the end of fights. Electronic cards will tally up the totals instantly with no need for discussions or dodgy corrections!
But boxing is a dinosaur, and it'll probably always be resistent to any changes that rock the boat!
Compubox is a load of, said it a few times on here.
There’s no incentive for the people who run it to iron out the corruption, and that’s why it’s still going on.

Spot on. I've followed him b4 the sky deal. He brought 50 odd fans down to the midlands for a English title fight (loads of banter that night no trouble what so ever l). Spent time him and Sean at the weigh in and after the fight. Great bloke's. If u get the opportunity he has had to use the football club to sell tickets and build your profile why wudnt u do it. Its made him alot more money than if he was still selling 50-100 tickets a show. His rised from the small halls to selling a stadium fight written off multiple times and came thru the odds. Last night was a major shock. I hope he bounces back

Yeah it’s a bit weird to dislike someone just because of who they support. Definitely annoys me when Sky ram it down our throats all the time, but that’s nothing to do with Warrington really.

Warrington didn't look as sharp as he usually does, he has never been a puncher but his accuracy and work rate usually give his opponents pause.
Last night he didn't seem to get going at all and when he tried to press the action in the fourth he left his chin exposed and got caught with a solid hook that he never really recovered from.
Credit to Lara, he grabbed his opportunity with both hands. He may not be champion, but he has put himself in good stead for a shot in the near future and some good pay days lie in store for him.

Of course nailing your colours to the mast and getting fans of that club behind you could indeed amp up the fan tally. Just look at Hatton, Bellew, Crolla and now Warrington but for every 1 fan of your particular club there's a supporter of 19 other premier league clubs who hate them, and in turn now hate that boxer who associates with their team so much.
And it doesn't always work, it actually requires some level of success, exposure and probably personality in the first place. Didn't Terry Flanagan go with the same kind of thing? City are my team, wearing shorts the same colour etc?....I don't recall him having an army behind him and he was a long time undefeated fighter who got to world title level.
It's all good and well asking why people dislike a boxer just due to their football team, but it really does make it hard to get behind them. I'd rather not know who a boxer supports, so that I can get behind them for their boxing ability and their decency as a person.

Very few teams are as disliked as Leeds. Hatton went out of his way to not alienate anyone, he even had Rooney carry his belts for him. Sky have continuously hammered home the Leeds thing. I know loads of Leeds fans who’ve never been to a show except Josh.

Feels like Warrington lost, as opposed Lara winning.
So I feel compelled to say, from the first bell he was aggressive, assertive and clearly wanted to win. Took his chances and really went for it whenever he had Josh hurt. Might be a great champion for some time to come, hope he squeezes every fuckin penny out of the UK promoter who signs him now. Can’t take a single thing away from him!

That's true on both counts. Think Hatton actually United the city of Manchester at some point despite his strong association with City. It would take either one of the more dominant/leading entities above to either take a lead in making changes and others may follow.....or a huge gathering of heads coming together to iron out some common regulations/changes.

If he genuinely believes that you should be active then why didn’t he fight in December? The Goyo Vargas effect - (or the Frank Cedeno/Rolando Navarette/Juan Diaz etc) someone - usually from Latin America (before the more pedantic posters on here point it out - I know Frank Cedeno was a Filipino and the Philippines is in SE Asia) who none of us have ever heard of never mind rated... comes over and flattens the local hero in stark fashion... Warrington wasn't the first nor will he be the last but he has done amazing to get to where he did with his style and lack of punch power. Well done Josh...

JW can come back and rebuild , he has the rematch clause and will probably blame the 16 month layoff plus the lack of a crowd .
Lara had " hands of stone " type power and just seemed to walk through warringtons punches .
Hope is ok after being to A& E ,that was a pretty sound beating and really his corner were at fault big style.
