Fury fought Wilder in the US 6 months after coming back from being morbidly obese. I don’t think he’s scared or will avoid anyone.polecateddy wrote: ↑02 Jan 2023, 06:42The reality of it is probably that the talent pool of today’s heavyweights is paper thin. Fury does not have a lot of competition in comparison to other eras. But Usyk is very talented and will thus be avoided.mickey1975 wrote: ↑02 Jan 2023, 06:14I really do not know how getting off the floor twice, once from a very heavy knockdown, to come on and knock your opponent out in the ninth round or completing twelve rounds numerous times, including a few when noticeably not 100% doesnt convince people of your fitness.polecateddy wrote: ↑02 Jan 2023, 06:06 Lewis was noticeably knackered after failing to really subdue hard case Željko Mavrović over 12 rounds. Usyk is more talented than the Croatian and Fury doesn’t have the offensive weapons or as has been said, probably the fitness either of Lewis. There would be a fair danger of Fury just losing a wide decision. I personally don’t think there’s any danger of Fury ever fighting the guy.

It is a bit night and day with Wilder and Usyk. Wilder’s lack of skills must have been general knowledge. I think Fury is avoiding both Joshua and Usyk until they are both obviously faded.
Re: Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk - Spring 2023
Wilder`s own fitness is quite shocking; in the 2nd fight he claimed 101 reasons why he was knackered so quick - but in the 3rd fight he was also gassed and looking sorry for himself after just a few rounds. That Fury stayed the course merely says he was/is much fitter and better boxer than Wilder (Wilder was KOd as much from exhaustion anyways) but that doesn`t mean Fury will be better in either dept than Usyk.mickey1975 wrote: ↑02 Jan 2023, 06:14I really do not know how getting off the floor twice, once from a very heavy knockdown, to come on and knock your opponent out in the ninth round or completing twelve rounds numerous times, including a few when noticeably not 100% doesnt convince people of your fitness.polecateddy wrote: ↑02 Jan 2023, 06:06 Lewis was noticeably knackered after failing to really subdue hard case Željko Mavrović over 12 rounds. Its also got to be concerning the preparation Fury has had to face Usyk; a very limited (but huge punching) Wilder, and two noncompetitive walkovers (we didn`t expect Whyte to be so fragile of course).
Whereas Usyk has those two AJ fights where he has experienced a big heavyweight opponent, and one that arguably hits harder and able to put more sustained pressure on him than what Fury will be likely to. Fury tried pressuring Otter Wallin and didn`t look effective at all even as the Otter tired in the last couple rounds.

Aj and Fury are night and day! There’s no point in us two discussing it, we will just have to wait and see.

Although he was offered the fight in December.

For anyone who's a true boxing fan, any talk of a unification fight between 2 champions to settle who is the best in that division, you really do want to see it being contested as evenly as possible, with both fighters at their physical and mental peaks. Especially when it's the heavyweight championship and the universal recognition that goes with that title. You really wouldn't want to see one of the fighters go in mentally and physically jaded, carrying injuries, with their mind not fully focused. Anyone who wants the odds tipped in favour of one particular fighter clearly has bias and an agenda.
To offer Usyk a fight at the start of December, less than 4 months after his last gruelling rematch with Joshua, was shithousery at it's finest, and basically posturing with the answer already known.

March 4 is three months after the Del fight! And they wanted it sooner! The Gratest wrote: ↑03 Jan 2023, 08:45 For anyone who's a true boxing fan, any talk of a unification fight between 2 champions to settle who is the best in that division, you really do want to see it being contested as evenly as possible, with both fighters at their physical and mental peaks. That was a sparring match, and a not even hard one at that. Go back and read over your own description of it before firing out sentences ending with !!!

Imagine if some joker had said to Lennox Lewis in 1999, ‘don’t worry about Holyfield, we’ll line up Julius Francis and Scott Welsh. The Battle of Britain. We’ll do it on PPV!’ It’s basically that!

When you look at it that way, it is quite damning. However, Fury said back in August that he was specifically coming out of retirement to fight Chisora and give him a send off pay day. A rare instance where he was true to his word, so credit to him for that. There were other more lucrative and meaningful challenges, but he didn't let anything else get in the way, did what he said he'd do, and delivered a historical trilogy with Chisora.

But it's supposed to be a sport isn't it, not some weird charity spar for friends. It's fortunate in a way that Fury isn't a big puncher, so he naturally carried these faded fighters into the late/middle rounds. A lot of good heavyweight champions would have rolled them over in 2 rounds and highlighted them as mismatches even more. The Gratest wrote: ↑03 Jan 2023, 11:24 When you look at it that way, it is quite damning. You really can't blame Fury one bit though if he can earn so well with such mismatches.
Unfortunately for Lewis back then such cynical money grabs wouldn't have sold/generated enough to make them worthwhile .. if they did - I doubt Lewis would have turned them down being the shrewd person he is.
The game is a lot different now - Fury is just doing what he is able to do.

The brits never took to Lennox so he had to fight whoever he was told to. Even when he was brutally stopped by McCall it wasn’t sold out. Neither was his own ‘easy British’ or the gimme v Botha.tonyevs wrote: ↑03 Jan 2023, 12:54 You really can't blame Fury one bit though if he can earn so well with such mismatches.

Who will Fury sell out next with? Efe Ajagba for a bit of a Lewis/Michael Grant style ring education? I’ve kind of given up on boxing as a sport these days. It’s seriously dire!mickey1975 wrote: ↑03 Jan 2023, 13:29The brits never took to Lennox so he had to fight whoever he was told to. Even when he was brutally stopped by McCall it wasn’t sold out. It's never been any different. Look at Holmes and Ali they have Evangelista, Ledoux, Frank, Marvis, Lubbers, Mildenberger, Dunn, Coopman...

Not many/any trilogy mismatch money grabs though. Was that the historical part of it?

Usyk fought in September & said almost straight away that he wouldn’t be fighting until the spring time as he’d been away from his family for so long.
It wasn’t much of an offer when they knew he wasn’t training & wasn’t going to fight again this year.

Correct , Fury offers fights when he knows there not available , then calls them names for not taking them ,a force wrote: ↑03 Jan 2023, 20:20Usyk fought in September & said almost straight away that he wouldn’t be fighting until the spring time as he’d been away from his family for so long.

Well, it is now less than 8 weeks until the cut off point for Fury vs Uysk (March 4th) and still no announcement. It's not going to happen, is it?
