jack was definitely tired in there in the second half. i actually think this one was tougher for him depsite the result. he was still much higher quality with his shots, but really looked uncomfortable at times. first fight i thought he cruised by comparison

If you’re scoring punching air and arms and ignoring Cat’s jabs snapping Taylor’s head back maybe.
In some rounds nowhere near all. I thought Jack pissed the first fight but struggled the last half of this one.
You had Taylor winning the last 2 ? :maybe: :stop:

Excellent fight, better than the first, I had Catterall ahead 115-113, he was brilliant, landed that left hand seconds in like he did last time, set the tone, his jab was immense all night, it was like he never missed, same with the left hand, he was opening Taylor up in the middle rounds and I thought he might get Taylor out of there, Taylor's heart is the size of a lion though, he kept hustling, I thought his work was messy tonight, Catterall's defense was top drawer as well, Taylor rarely threw long shots, never threw the left hand really, just tried to get up close and bang to the body, couldn't find a home for his right hook either, Catterall hurt him badly with a left in the 11th, Taylor wouldn't budge though, incredibly tough never stops,Catterall deserved that though

Fair play to Bob Arum. Scores were not right but they weren’t right the first time either. 1-1

Catterall had some lovely combinations, and a single/double/triple jab that couldn't miss. He also pulled off that Andre Ward short overhead strike, then tuck under Taylors arm perfectly.
Some nice edd and flow between them, Taylor showed a lot of grit in the championship rounds.
No belts for Catterall but a big redemption.
Excellent analysis.

When it’s two lefties, that overhand is bizarrely effective.

Cartterall is very frustrating to watch for me. His counters and single left hands when Taylor comes into range and ducks down a bit were great but it seems impossible for him to understand when to be more consistent with the attack. Or is it a bad habit that formed from fighting at his own pace his entire life? Only seen a handful of fights and it's always the same, lands great punches, opponent is visibly hurt but instead of following up Catterall reverts back to clinching or backing off. Three rounds for Taylor is a bit harsh, it's closer in a perfect world but it's a normal decision with close rounds mostly going to the home (promoter's boy) fighter.

113-115 Catterall

I can see anything between 116-112 to Catterall & a draw.

For two judges to score that 117-111 then I don’t think there was any point Taylor even turning up. There was no intention of scoring the fight fairly.

I thought the moment where Taylor walked on to a beauty from Catterall in round 11 changed everything & stopped all the momentum Taylor had been building up. For me that was the decisive moment that led to Catterall winning rounds 11 & 12 & taking the fight.

Although according to the judges Catterall didn’t need rounds 11 or 12!

Just realised I actually had it 116-112, not 117-111. Gave JT 3, 7, 9 and 12. 6, 8 and 12 were close, so could see a draw I suppose, but also 117-111.

That the scorecards were a disgrace, Taylor won and he'd never take an american fighter over to fight in the UK because of this.

Taylor had all the pressure but the cleaner punches were from Catterall. I thought Cat just nicked it by around 2 but wasn't keeping an ongoing score, just in my head. It looked like Taylor's pressure was getting to him around the 9th, but Cat's got such a relaxed style and able to control the distance/tempo that he could ride it out.
Cat's like a white, southpaw, lightwelter Jersey Joe Walcott.

Eddie's off to deliver some Milk Tray after this.

Similar here, he seemed to drag himself back into then took a pasting in r11. Clear win for Catterall imo.

Very close fight IMO, possibly Caterall just deserved by a round or two. I would have had no complaints had Taylor won a close decision. The judges scorecards were a disgrace, as Taylor said post fight, possibly the first fight influenced there thinking?

Caterall had a great first round and a very good start to the fight overall. He was landing the cleaner shots all fight, his punches seemed to hurt Taylor at times. Saying all that though, Caterall only fought in spurts, whenever he landed a good volly of shots, he would back off and allow Taylor to get right back into it, especially in the second half of the fight. Taylor often looked on top due to Jack's inactivity which was allowing Taylor to force the pace. No doubt Caterall has stamina issues. If he had a better gas tank he could have won this quite comfortably.

Credit to Taylor for sticking in there and pressuring him for every minute of every round. He ate some big shots tonight (a few headbutts too) but he never stopped coming. He is as tough as nails, he simply could not deal with Jaack's southpaw style, the side on stance gave Taylor all kinds of trouble, in both fights he struggled to land any clean shots on Jack.

Not sure we need a trilogy, but money talks so it could happen.

I have no idea why they have four commentators. Mike Costello and Andy Lee are excellent. No need for Barry Jones and Darren Barker.
Disagree with that like, BJ is the best pundit and commentator out there these days
Different strokes I guess. For me, Andy Lee is a breath of fresh air.
