The fact that this only a few weeks after being announced makes me less annoyed, it would be hilarious if Paul knocked Joshua out but I couldn't be arsed with the aftermath and the vindication Jake and his like would feel, if AJ sweeps him aside swiftly, it'll all be forgotten about in a couple weeks

You need to think of it more as an exhibition than anything important.
I expect Joshua to carry Paul. If AJ did get knocked out, that would be embarrassing.

Has jake gone completely mad? Look at that ridiculous face off yesterday, Joshua looked like he was dropping his kid off at the school playground.

This could be pretty nasty when Joshua pulverises him and Jake is out cold in the ring attended by doctors. I mean, I really don’t like the guy, but I don’t wanna see him badly hurt

While I would obviously want him to recover, I would love to see Paul get knocked cold just to remind casuals and fan boys that you don't play boxing.

I just listened to Eddie being interviewed by Bunce. Apparently AJ was going to be fighting today on the big card, he was going to be announced as a surprise guest and then walk out to fight Chaney in an 8 rounder. So AJ obviously fight fit which makes him even more likely to flatten JP.

Who'd gamble even a quid on this being genuine, but all they need is that scintilla of doubt to lure us in.

I'd find the production nauseating though, so I'll probably just watch the replay if AJ flattens him.

Eubank is a career middleweight fighting at middleweight against a WW/SWW moving up and you think the shameful part was the rehydration clause of 10lbs? I disagree.... agree with the observations on Joshua v Paul though, the Ngannou fight should give a clue as to what could and should happen here if it's a genuine fight

I think the rehydration clause was bad. I know the IBf sometimes do it, but that is 12 lbs, so this was still 2 lbs off that.

I also think it was wrong to put it in there in the first place. You either think you can beat someone or you don't. If you have to drain the life out of them, then it counts as a non victory really.

I'm still none the wiser about how good Conor Benn is. I know that he can lose to a dehydrated fighter but then beat a dehydrated fighter, when they are that bit older. Beyond that, it's hard to know how Benn will get on with someone his own age and not with a restriction placed on them.

He might do really well, but I just couldn't say at this stage.

Paul seems quite shrewd, I think this will be a glorified exhibition, and he will go down the first time he gets tagged with a solid shot that looks credible.

Yeah there's a short clip of Benn being interviewed and Crockers name put forward and Benn said he wasn't interested, has bigger fish to fry and then started to say about 10lb rehydration and stopped himself and said he wants the WBC belt

Froch seems well gutted that he didn`t get a chance to make the big bucks against Jake Paul.

I didn’t think there was a chance this fight would actually be made, although there is still plenty of time for something to derail it.

I’ll probably watch it as the Mrs is pestering me to get a month of Netflix for the kids K-Pop malarkey anyway. I don’t enjoy watching JP though, there’s something really odd about it all, you have this big crowd, big money, big occasion fight, but you get a watered down version of boxing from the man at the centre of it all.

JP might get whacked a couple of times but the “could get seriously hurt” predictions I’m not on board with. As soon as JP looks remotely wobbly it’ll get stopped in a heartbeat. That’s why Joshua will probably have a quiet start, stretch it out a bit, demonstrate defence not just offence.

I’ll be glad when it’s all over.

This just made me chuckle. According to Boxrec, Jake Paul is the 73rd best cruiserweight in the world. Sefer Seferi is ranked one place above him.

Not suprised, I know he's done very well out of boxing and property but he would have doubled his net worth for a nights graft. Personally I would have preferred the Froch fights as I think that would have been a 50/50. AJ is just gonna splatter him

Maybe he's seen the Zel-Wilder affair and decided on a rerun, where AJ lets him land a shot before finishing him softly, with the PR narrative that "Paul almost had him!".

Anthony Joshua agreed to fight Cassius Chaney on Ring IV prior to Jake Paul clash

Eddie Hearn has revealed the original plan for Anthony Joshua’s return after a year-long absence.

The former two-time heavyweight champion has not fought since his 5th round knockout defeat to then-IBF champion Daniel Dubois in September of last year. Joshua was in talks to face Dubois in an immediate rematch, but an elbow injury halted those plans. Dubois eventually went on to face prior adversary Oleksandr Usyk in July, suffering a stoppage in a failed bid to become undisputed.

There had been murmurs that Joshua, still one of the sport’s biggest stars, was due to return in an eight-round run-out this year. The plan was to shake off rust before he pushed towards a clash with long-time rival Tyson Fury in 2026.

Then the unexpected news dropped earlier this month that Joshua, 28-4 (25 KOs), would instead face YouTube star-turned-boxer Jake Paul on December 19 over eight rounds.

Joshua’s long-time promoter Hearn revealed the original plan was for the 35-year-old to take on American heavyweight Cassius Chaney, 24-3 (17 KOs), but the Paul showdown scampered pans.

“I mean, we had agreed a deal. We hadn't signed a contract, but we'd agreed a deal with Cassius Chaney," Hearn told BS. “We were going to fight last week in Riyadh [on the Ring IV ‘Night of Champions’ card]. None of you lot [the media] were going to know about it. We were going to turn up on Friday, Saturday, and we were going to get out the car and go and do eight rounds with Cassius Chaney.

“Now we're doing eight rounds with Jake Paul, but for 50 times more money. So, the business is good, and I think Chaney would have been a slightly tougher fighter. He's a decent fighter, but he's only a Top 100 guy on BoxRec [at heavyweight], and Jake Paul's top 50 at cruiserweight. So, it is what it is. It's a massive opportunity for us. We received an offer we accepted, and we're ready to go. It's a short camp, and obviously AJ's got to make weight, which is something new, but he's in great shape, excited, and ready to do a job. He's preparing for Jake Paul like it was any top world-class heavyweight contender.”

With Joshua fighting Paul on just six weeks’ notice and agreeing to a 245lbs weight stipulation, some could worry that the former heavyweight champion is underestimating the self-acclaimed “Problem Child”.

Is there a chance Joshua could be overlooking Paul, much like his rival Fury overlooked boxing debutante Francis Ngannou?

“No, I mean, AJ's just not like that,” said Hearn. “Yes, the camp would end up being, what, six weeks, seven weeks? Normally, you'd want, I don't know, eight to ten for a tough opponent, but it is Jake Paul. So, as I said, with the weight, that's not easy either. It won't be a problem, but we can't expect no... I mean, it's just too good to be true.

So, the reality is, if they would have asked us to ring walk the night before, we would have done it. We would have just camped out in the ring with a tent or something or worn pink shorts. I would have convinced AJ to do it because the opportunity is too good to turn down. And thankfully, it's a great opportunity, and we've got to just go in there and do the business.”
