Good.

I'm so fed up with hype jobs trying to meme themselves into world champions.
Peden v Campbell style humiliation would be nice. It certainly wouldn’t be out the question..

To the 7th circle of HEEELLL, with Adam Smith.

Remember when we used to complain about John Rawling? His legs had definitely gone, John.

Eddie Hearn says Ben Whittaker needs one more fight before facing Dmitry Bivol, Callum Smith or a similar opponent.

However, delaying Whittaker’s toughest test is probably strategic because many leading light-heavyweights are getting old.

If he waits until late summer 2027 for a major fight, he will have a better chance of beating ageing opponents such as Artur Beterbiev, Callum Smith, Dmitry Bivol, Anthony Yarde and Joshua Buatsi. These men are slightly past their physical primes due to being in their mid-to-late thirties or early forties.

Even though I’m not particularly impressed by Whittaker, because he tends to “play with his food” too much instead of finishing the job, coupled with the fact he has been protected multiple times by the referees, time is definitely on his side.

I think he’s capable of winning an alphabet world title in late 2027 if he is carefully matched against a well-known veteran who is far past their prime.

Ben Whittaker is not a world-class fighter, but he may eventually become one (through a process of elimination) when all the men rated above him lose to others, retire, or decline with age.

Dude, in the time it takes to navigate AI prompts you could bash out a couple of your own sentences.

This is the kind of thing that trips AI, cos it doesn't have the smarts to emulate the conjecture we fans thrive on. It has to rely on cold data to form its reckons, intelligent enough to cross-reference records to avoid overinflating padded ones (once programmed for championship weighting according to belt repute and recentness), but it's unable to appraise footage with anything like the insight we can*.

*If it's instructed to, which I imagine is unlikely in boxing's case. There are programs that can analyse video, albeit for pattern recognition primarily atm. Pet detection on security cameras for example.

I've dabbled with software you can write your own detections for, but for boxing I couldn't do much more than set a trigger to declare a knockdown whenever someone's boots were vertical! And you'd probably get a lot of false positives caused by stuff like ads on the canvas and turnbuckles.

👀 allegedly on Ben Whittaker's performance: "Anyone who makes [Dmitry Bivol vs. Whittaker] should be reported to the NSPCC. He's a nice guy, good luck to him and Matchroom done a good job in promoting him — they got everybody talking about him — but you've got to have some substance and the substance at the end of the day just isn't there." Never heard of it, but if I had to work on such a thing I'd want fixed cameras for it. Maybe it was a ringside deal?

AI visual pattern recognition's much easier to write code for and define when there's as little movement as possible, so with fixed cameras you could 'anchor' the ring as a reference point and tell it to ignore the horizontal frontrow where Twat in the Hat and co sit. Eliminate their movements from the analysis.

I think your best bet is paired chipped gloves with something like piezoelectric sensors in em. It'd still be hard to discount shots on arms and the like though, so not much good for a Canelo-Smith.

For now it's a lot of promo for not much potential.
Did you honestly find his last fight enthralling?
It was late Sunday morning here and I was getting drowsy and wanted to fast forward but it was a live stream.

It's nothing but a bullshit excuse for a bad performance.

I'm not buying Andy Lee's Covid excuse. Sounds like he's covering for a shit performance. If Whittaker really was that ill a week before the fight, Lee was an idiot to let him fight. Not sure he's thought that excuse through.

Well, we all have common sense. We are all well capable of knowing when our intelligence is being insulted.

Is Andy Lee stupid enough to put a fighter with covid into the ring?

Or is Andy smart enough to put out a covid excuse to try to take some heat off Ben and put some blame on himself, in order to try to look after his fighter?

I think Lee is smart enough to understand that what he said wouldn't get past the true boxing anoraks like ourselves. The general public might buy it somewhat. I didn't even see much discussion about it on here since most here have forgotten more about boxing than the general public would ever learn and we know it's BS and don't even bother entertaining it.

Ben Whittaker insists suffering from Covid didn't affect performance against Conor Wallace

Ben Whittaker is open to a rematch with Ireland’s Conor Wallace after their battle at Birmingham’s Utilita Arena.

The 13-0-1 (9 KOs) Whittaker from West Bromwich, England, claimed a unanimous decision victory over Wallace, 17-2 (12 KOs). The decision was not controversial yet after Wallace dominated Whittaker in the later rounds, with the undefeated light-heavyweight in real trouble in the 12th and final session, some believe a rematch is needed to set the record straight.

Whittaker won most of the rounds up until the eighth, but Wallace came on strong, hurting Whittaker several times and there was a feeling if Wallace upped the pace earlier then maybe the result would have been different.

“I was dominating every round. It got to a point probably where it was too easy, if I'm honest,” said Whittaker of his performance following the fight.

“Just because he won one or two rounds people think it's an amazing performance for him. But at the end of the day I won, probably [lost only] two rounds in my opinion, but on to the next. If he wants to get smoked again, we can do it, but there's a lot to learn.”

In the fifth session and onwards, Whittaker returned to his old ways of showboating and taunting Wallace, instead of pushing for a stoppage.

“I'm still with my coach Andy Lee, he's saying some amazing things and I wave it off sometimes. I'll try and impress the crowd probably a bit too much, but it's all learning,” Whittaker admitted.

“Twelve rounds under my belt. I've been cleaning them out a bit early now and even in there I hurt him a lot. I hurt him a lot, wobbled him a lot. He kept coming back, so it was a good fight. I enjoyed it.

Whittaker’s trainer Andy Lee also revealed that his fighter had been suffering from COVID a week before the contest. Whittaker was asked if the illness played a part in his performance.

“No. At the end of the day, you never know what Wallace went through,” he replied. “He could have had injuries, niggles, he could have been out. But for me, I made no excuse. You didn't hear me talk about it. A couple of sniffles, a bit of a temperature, but at the end of the day, I looked juicy for the first 10 rounds. I'm going to move on now. I won at the end of the day.”

The victory has secured Whittaker a mandatory shot a Dmitry Bivol’s IBF light-heavyweight title, but is Whittaker ready?

“It's down to Eddie Hearn, down to Andy Lee. For me, I just fight who's in front of me,” Whittaker said. “It would be nice, of course [to fight Bivol next], but it would be nice as well to probably clean that kid [Wallace] out properly. But at the end of the day, I'll be back in the gym as soon as possible, just neaten a few things up and, yeah, I'm ready to go.”

Whittaker is clearly keen on the rematch with Ireland’s Wallace to once again shut up those criticizing his performance. Whittaker has also made a home for himself in the suburbs of Dublin, Ireland, training out of Lee’s gym in Ballybrack.

So could the rematch happen over in Ireland?

“That's my country now,” said Whittaker. “I represent Ballybrack, my coach is Irish. I'm part Irish too now, so it's home from home. I like it. And if we have to go there or we have to bring it back to the Midlands. I'm the A-side, I'm the winning side, so it's on my terms.”

Whittaker’s promoter Eddie Hearn was also open to a rematch with Wallace, but admitted the fight would more likely end up back in Birmingham.

We've heard the illness explanation before. Parker was with Lee when Joyce stopped him and afterwards said he'd been sick before the fight. Lee claimed he regretted letting Parker fight. Now we're told Whittaker was in bed with COVID a week beforehand. If both are true, what happened to the lesson Lee supposedly learned with Parker?

I just don’t buy the Covid excuse. If he was genuinely ill they pull him out. He’s the A side. There’s no rush to get the fight on.

How many of us have said that we won’t get carried away with Whittaker until we see how his stamina is in a fight that goes beyond a few rounds due to what we saw in the first Cameron fight.

It just so happens that his stamina was found wanting but all of a sudden there’s an excuse.

The two times he’s stepped up to what I would class as just under British level he’s been found wanting & both times he’s had his excuses ready.

That's been such a natural matchup for ages. Which is why it won't happen. (Suspect Kraus would take it.)

Wallace wasn't willing to do what he needed to do to win. It was a fight full of frustrating negativity.

Yeah I think Kraus might take it but he’s not a big name yet and I don’t think Eddie would take that risk at this point. I’d even be prepared to buy PPV for that as long as the undercard was good.
