Following a brutal and one-sided rematch loss to Daniel Dubois, Fabio Wardley immediately voiced his desire to fight again while admitting his preparation this time “wasn’t ideal”.

The contest came five months after their hellacious first encounter in which Dubois, after being dropped twice in the opening three rounds, steadily pounded the resistance from his rival. The beating Wardley took back then – bloodied and bruised, he was unsteady on his feet for several rounds before the end came in the 11th – left many questioning if an immediate rematch was the right thing for Wardley to do.

Wardley, however, was determined to regain the WBO heavyweight title he’d lost. Financially, too, it would have made sense.

Dubois won the return in two rounds, dropping Wardley inside the first 20 seconds and administering a patient but clinical beating upon his rival. It was Wardley’s second consecutive defeat following a gruelling run of bouts that saw him come from behind to beat Justis Huni and Joseph Parker, after engaging in a hellacious back-and-forth 12-round draw with Frazer Clarke.

“You can really shorten it and say the preparation for me wasn’t ideal and Daniel learned the most from the first fight and came out with a better game plan,” Wardley, 20-2-1 (19 KOs), told DAZN as he made his way from the ring to the dressing room.

“That’s all it was if you want to boil it down to the nitty-gritties.

“But there’s time for that later when we go over it as a team, we sit down, and we go over the details of what happened.”

For Dubois, it’s onwards and upwards. The defeats to Joe Joyce and Oleksandr Usyk (twice) appear to have served as crucial education. As well as the two victories over Wardley, he can also boast stoppages of Anthony Joshua and Filip Hrgovic.

Wardley can take encouragement from that.

“Right now, I lost,” he said. “It is what it is. Daniel’s a testament to losing and coming back and winning the world title for a second time.

“I will be looking to do the same thing.”
Preperation this time was'nt ideal , What a crock of shite , start with if there was a problem he should of just cancelled postponed the fight, plenty do it all the time , quite often when the prep has been perfect they just want to throw the opponents prep out of sync ,

The real issue is he just can't box , he's a tough has teak guy with no defence , , absolutly shite distancing of his punches , no knoledge or ability to even throw a straight punch or land a jab ,, What he does have is a world class chin, a world class right hand when it lands , and a tremendous believe in himself which put together has brought him to insane heights he should never off reached given his ltd talent .

He has previously been totally outboxed, but this insane mental believe in himself just proved how far the mind can take you .

But alas , Don Charles who because of experience and knoledge of the sport recognised all those things and had Daniel primed prepped and ready to go , he just pointed Daniel in the right direction and said sic him boy , and has someone else pointed out it was rnd 13,

Don't care what prep he had facts are , Daniel can box has well has hit , , others could outbox Fabio but not hurt him so he pulled it back in late rnds , this time he met a boxer who hits just has hard has he does , whats more , the way he was turning his head , I could'nt see if he was closinfg his eyes , but just the turning off his head sort of tells you he's gone a bit gunshy , still tough has teak , but gunshy non the less .

Sorry but his boat has sailed , IF he had been with a trainer who was teaching him to box correctly the last couple of years he may have been able to salvage something but now , sorry , once you become punch shy , your punch shy and thats that ,

I hope he's made plenty enough to support himself and his familly , i would'nt want to see him in with any top teir guys anymore ,

But yet funny enough if i was his manager would i tell him to retire , i would not , I think theres still a few lower grade payday fights for him , But what i would do is tell him go train with someone who can teach you spend 12-18 months learning to box , and come back against a couple of lower teir guys see what you got , then ake the discision .

Who would i send him too , probably , Shane Mcguigan , , definetly Rob Mckracken , and perhaps even Don Charles , really anyone who could TEACH HIM

Has McKraken had any pros since Joshua? I liked him as a fighter and since I seen him working with Froch he’s always gave great advice in the corner.

The problem is that he was always using a really crap upper body movement based defence. Ducking under shots and philly shelling. It's like fighters and trainers saw Floyd Mayweather and decided to use a philly shell, not realising the decade of daily repetition that it took for Floyd to perfect it.

At heavyweight it's always going to work until it doesn't. The knockout power at that weight means that it can only take one punch to get through that defence and the whole game plan is done for. I'm assuming it gets chosen because it looks cooler but is only effective for some people. It's also worth noting how much Floyd's commitment to offense with any power dropped off the more commited to the stance he got whereas Wardley wants to be a knockout puncher at the same time.

They’re definitely paying Jones just to turn up on the night. Curtis is terrible. No way Jones doesn’t realise he’s poor. Honestly it frazzles the brain that anyone who knows anything about boxing would invest in him
Who is paying RJJ? And why?

The Curtis story is interesting. The kid turned pro in Mexico at 16 then fought in Dubai & Thailand before coming home to the UK.

So if he is so bad, who is the money behind him?
Well he’s not THAT bad but considering the hype he’s well short. I think he was flagged as a super talent as a kid, but he just doesn’t seem to have taken to the pro game against adults. He gets caught a lot.
Cheers.

An old classmate of mine knows the amateur scene in South East London & said he was decent

Wardley's jabs to the body were decent, he was just too buzzed by then. His worst mistake after holding his gloves low (fine if you're a mover or at least have Toneyesque anticipation to economise movement; Fab isn't and doesn't), is the 2-stage trigger on his righthand. And that's okay if you throw it low enough during an arc to make sure you connect with something, but Dubois knew he could duck those as Wardley kept telegraphing high.

I won't be too harsh cos he was caught so early and might've boxed much better otherwise, for all I know. Carrying the confidence he had against Clarke in their rematch he looked genuinely talented. Unfortunately for him Dubois figured on having the tools for the job if he jumped straight in, doing to Fab what Fab did to Fraze.

In future I'd like to see him throwing his right as a straighter, more accurate scoring shot most of the time. He caught Clarke squared up with a left, albeit after hurting him. If he could just keep his gloves up and move his head behind the jab... Some guys are all fundamentals and no flair, but I think Wardley could benefit so much from improving his basics. Not many pros with as much untapped potential.

With the way he fights atm it's really hard for him to predict how his opponents approach him. If he cut down their options with a solid defence (shelling up alone isn't enough - he needs fluidity of movement too), his toughness could shine rather than save. Can't turn him into Holmes, but the older Larry's my vision of who he should try and emulate. Don't mind the fans if they boo. Forgo this fan-favourite bulldozing and he could have a nicely languid, rhythmic style I think.

It takes lots of perfect practice and repitition to learn most things it has to be ingrained mentaly , into muscle memory , he's not doing that he's just going by instinct . Don Charles knew that , pressure hard and fast and theres no muscle memory there , theres no do it without thinking second nature type of stuff from practice and repetition ,.

I personaly cannot see how these top top guys are going to a coach that constantly lets them do basics so wrong , ex AJ dropping hands , drops whatever hhand he's not throwing when he does throw hence the KO with daniel , Moses not having the stanima , which shows he's never been under pressure and knackered in the gym , Fabio parrying a jab with his left hand leaving himself open for the big right ,

Alls i can think of is there lazy boxers all of them . Boxing is actually quite a boring sport the constant repetition a good coach makes you do , can be quite tedious , but thats what nutures the skills , i suspect there allowed to get away with running there sessions and no one there to shout at them , ask them what the fook do you think your doing thats a disgrace , get down and give me 20 pushups . Instead they get ben doing boxercise and practicing moves he picked up on U tube , makes it enjoyable and easy for them

The big overhand right , my pet name for it is the bolo punch , its ok but DEFINETLY should not be your only means of attack its easy to slip and evade , can be used effectivly , if your against a tired fighter , using your jab to get the distance and aiming it for your opponents right shoulder , that way you will hit something , BUT has your one and only punch has Fabio does time and time again ITS STUPID , but there whole game plan if they had one was using that punch when its one of the easiest punches in the book to dodge theres so many easy defences against that punch , from simply stepping out the way , or slipping has Daniel done , to catching it on the arms , when you know its coming ,

The more i think about these guys , they deserve what they get becaise they reap what they sow , coming in to a fight with Dubai , and only having a jab with no distancde and a blo punch in your reotoire is incredebile ,

. Aj getting sparked by Dubia was'nt brilliant boxing on Dans part it was just basic right hand when he drops his hands low , when he punches and drops come over the top , Basic stuff

Moses getting stretchered out , was unbelievable he beat himself , showing he may or may not of done 12 rnds of sparring prior , personaly i believed him then and still believe it , his lack of stanima shown it to be true , them saying after he had was just damage control why would he lie ,
But if he did you can bet your life he was never ever sparring 3-4 partners at a time and getting exhuasted in the gym .

Yet tehy all come out and defend there training or lack of it , so reap what you sow , AJ IS NEXT

Anthony Joshua in terms of boxing fundamentals is one of the most technically sound heavyweights on the planet 'I think you need to stop criticising him'.

Joshua vs. Dubois from what I can see? That was his only fight in his entire career since becoming a heavyweight champion 'where he made multiple unforced errors, and technical mistakes. All the other times Joshua was just beaten by the better fighter on the night'.

Note: In my opinion Daniel Dubois does not beat an optimal prepared Anthony Joshua 'when super focused on executing his best fight'.

Tyson Fury is actually not a great technical boxer from top to bottom 'do you think he is great? He squares himself up whenever he throws combinations, or fights on the inside. Which is why at almost every level of the sport, he has been bashed about and decked'.

I get what you are saying in your posts 'the more ingrained skills are in a fighter. The more they don't have to allocate effort to process those moves'.

I just think the criticism of Anthony Joshua is sometimes uncalled for 'he is held to the highest standards of all British fighters'.

If there is one thing Anthony Joshua has got right with his style 'it is his basic fundamentals. That combined with his athletic ability is why he has been able start boxing so late in life compared to many fighters, and become an Olympic Champion' etc.

Anthony Joshua is a shot fighter. His legs are gone. His technique is still good which is what saved him against Prenga. It won't save him against Fury, and it's not as if his technique was perfect. His style is pretty stiff not a lot of upper body or head movement, it relied mostly on his strength and power to be effective. The strength and power is still there, but his speed has dropped significantly and his chin has a big dent in it.

Rubbish , the most technicly sound heavyweight on the planet , has you put him DOES NOT drop his hands constantly , he DOES NOT , drop the right hand when he throws the left , HE DOES NOT drop the left when he throws the right , HE DOES not get koed because of these silly mistakes .

AJ is a massive stiff lumbering unit with a massive punch and he USED TO HAVE GOOD SKILLS UNDER ROB MACKRACKEN however they seem to have gone by the wayside , but the guys getting shop worn he's been around for a long time . Tyson well he's a monster , he was good on his feet , he knew how to use what he's got to his own advantage , but i'll adress the AJ BIT .

rIGHT TO START WITH who thinks they could teach AJ or Tyson for that matter , in fact throw in Usyk , what coach in the world can go in the gym and teach these guys ANYTHING , i'll tell you there IS NON , , There is'nt a coach in the world who can go in and teach AJ an olympic champo a world champ , something everyday not one,,, no one knows that much , you may be able to show them a few things here and there ,, but you will not school them , because they probably know more than the coach especielly Usyk and TYSON .

so ITS THE COACHES JOB TO GET THEM IN CONDITION THATS OBVIOUS , WORK OUT GAME PLANS FOR FIGHTS OBVIOUS , But the most important part is to watch observe , and maintain what they have got , under Mcracken AJ did'nt make these basic mistakes , WHY because Mckracken never allowed him too he corrected him and thats what a good coach does ,, Now when for ever reason a top fighter starts making these mistakes through lazyness , does'nt know what he's doing, whatever the reason , its then his coaches job to NOTICE and FIX IT, becuase if they don't fighters drop there left and get koed by a right , they parry with the wrong hand and allow a bolt of lightning through the gap .

What that coaCH SHOULD NEVER DO IS SAY THINGS LIKE HE'S THE MOST TECHNICLY SOUND HEAVYWEIGHT ON THE PLANET , HE'S NOT PAID TO LICK HIS ARSE HE'S PAID TO OBSERVE AND FIX .

And a perfect example of this is Don Charles and D D has Daniel all of a sudden developed insane skills , course not he has developed and nutured the basics to perfection theres nothing fancy in what he's doing , everything he has done recently is just basic boxing to perfection , under the tutorlist of a good coach who is recognising in the gym and fixing any little mistakes and making his charge fix them a with perfect practice making perfect . In fact i'm waiting to see how Daniel goes against some of the more technicly sound fighters , Kayabel to start with , because gthese recent good performances have been against guys making ameteur NOVICE MISTAKES , including AJ

I first had doubts about McCracken before the Wlad fight, based on this:

Obviously you don't show too much in public workouts, but it stood out for me how static McCracken was, strolling around while AJ was bouncing and full of appetite for fresh angles and ideas. I'd have preferred to see McCracken showing lots of movement, with AJ pulling his punches heavily for those that landed by accident against a mobile target. Get used to opponents who move and throw at the same time, as would Usyk. Ruiz, even.

That young AJ was so malleable, but has only stiffened and grown more predictable. I felt the Usyk rematch was his best post-Ruiz performance, when footwork was rammed front and centre into his gameplan. D'Amato would've killed for a student with his attributes in the 70s and 80s.

Joshua was just always too stiff. It's just his genetics and I would guess that he just did too many steroids rather than building functional muscle mass. Even Bruno was more slightly more fluid at times, despite probably doing the same thing.

You are overrating Daniel Dubois's win over Fabio Wardley 'Dubois has never technically looked impressive vs. any elite level fighter beside the worst technical version of Anthony Joshua ever. He clearly on that night decided to throw his basic fundamentals out of the window'.

Even still I think Dubois's performance vs. Anthony Joshua is overrated 'Joshua got caught early just like Fabio Wardley in round 1'.

But the difference was Anthony Joshua even while severely concussed, was still there in round 5 'not just surviving but on the brink of turning the fight around'.

Note: Your criticism of Anthony Joshua is nonsense 'and you are getting carried away with a fighter who has had one dominate fight. Against technically a European level fighter in Fabio Wardley'.

We have seen how both Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua fared vs. the best technical heavyweight fighter in the division Oleksandr Uysk. Both Fury and Joshua pushed Uysk over 24 rounds'.

And statistically Anthony Joshua compared to Tyson Fury was hit less, and hurt less by Oleksandr Uysk 'even though Uysk was producing a higher work rate vs. Joshua'.

Meanwhile Daniel Dubois was smashed twice by Oleksandr Uysk 'knocked out twice. The guy who you think has all of a sudden acquired a tremendous level of technical skill'.

Daniel Dubois is a proven world level fighter in terms of ability ' but I have never once considered him on pure ability as an elite level fighter. And beating Fabio Wardley who at best technically is a European level fighter, does not suddenly qualify a fighter as an elite level fighter. Those are the facts'.

Great win by Daniel Dubois he is a proven world champion ' but I think you are overrating him' etc.

NO I AM NOT , , I;m certainly not overating him , because to be honest a good boxer Usyk completly shellacked him , his great wins over Fabio and AJ have come because , one is'nt and never will be a good boxer just a hard man with a big punch , and tremendous tenacity , The win over AJ came i believe more from AJ regressing than anything else ,

I personaly always liked AJ , i used to believe he would off made mincemeat out of Fury , but that was then ,,,,this is now and , his not settling with a good coach has shown, over the years he's just regressed and now makes very basic mistakes and i believe there now ingrained getting him out of them would take a good coach a long time , plus theres the father time aspect .

But read my post i said i am looking forward to seeing how DD does against a technicly good fighter , example Kayabel it will be interesting and tell the story , people who drop there hands are always going to be tailor made for DD , he's a monster.

AJ was a sensational athlete in the 2010s. I think I'd have always backed him to stop Fury up until 2019. He didn't seem keen on Miller, and then Ruiz happened.
