Brian Mitchell vs Jim McDonnell
Two quality operators fighting with immense skill and for a meaningful title.

Just so wish Jimmy had that bit more bite on his shots - even 10/15 percent extra would have been enough - because he could live with Tony Lopez, Nelson, Fenech and Mitchell on the other fronts. Even cause them huge problems.

He was right in their class but just needed a tad more power to seal the deal as a challenger.

He obviously lost these two bouts but what a fantastic little fighter Earl Hargrove! He was dangerous, had tons of heart and his fights were exciting!
Watched Hargrove-Medal. Quite a tear up. Hats off to both of them. Medal tougher than he looks.

Good assessment mate. Imagine being him just feeling that his shots weren’t enough to quite get the job done. He had tremendous willpower.

Balls of steel Jim had. I remember there were.protests outside the venue before the Mitchell fight, being that he was South African in the apartheid era.

Jim had nearly everything in the locker.......but he just needed a stiffer jab or the odd uppercut with a bit more bite.
But a tiny percentage missing in those times and the division being the super-elite category...he fell a bit short.

Nightmare away date for the Leeds slugger Tom....but I think he did the journey and threw some big shots, did not leave Oz wondering what he could have done or exiting with a whimper :salut:

I'm not so sure mate, Collins just quit after 2 rounds, not sure the reason but he had a 2 rounds war, got dropped in the 1st by a right hand then rocked Harding in the 2nd, both slugged away but Collins decided he didn't want anymore, cracker while it lasted though, Aussie commentary is tremendous

Maybe a case of an ageing Tom just throwing all his cards down early and knowing he had to?
I'll take a risk - the one thing I can do is punch - and Harding properly beats me-up in any other scenario.

Tom's career was pretty epic and lasted from 1977 until 1993 :salut:

He beat Dennis Andries, Yawe Davis, Mark Kaylor and went in with Ralf Rocchigiani, Leeonzer Barber and Henry Maske.
