Errol Spence Jr. and Mikey Garcia made weight Friday afternoon for their 12-round, 147-pound title fight Saturday night at AT&T Stadium. The 29-year-old Spence, of DeSoto, Texas, stepped on his state commission’s scale at 146¼ pounds, slightly more than Garcia.
The 31-year-old Garcia (39-0, 30 KOs), of Moreno Valley, California, officially weighed in at a career-high 145 pounds. Neither Spence nor Garcia can weigh more than 157 pounds – 10 above the welterweight limit – at the IBF’s second-day weigh-in, scheduled for Saturday morning in Dallas.

Those close to Spence expect the IBF welterweight champion to weigh at least 165 pounds when he enters the ring late Saturday night for their FOX Sports Pay-Per-View main event. The 5-feet-6 Garcia, who’s four inches shorter than Spence (24-0, 21 KOs), said during a press conference Wednesday that he’ll weigh 150 pounds once he encounters the strong southpaw.

I dnuh.

Let’s not forget Kovalev-Ward did 160k buys.. and the rematch did worse!

Understandable, on paper Spence-Garcia is a more fun fight.
It will definitely do better than Ward -Kovalev if for no other reason than Garcia attracts the boxing-loving Latino crowd.

Garcia isn't a huge star among Latinos for some reason. Maybe because he's low key and not quotable and his style is more technical than blazing.

But the Latino audience guarantees that this bout won't be a PPV dud.

I'm having trouble reconciling the bolded three statements. A little help here. :o

What I mean is that Garcia doesn't hold the same huge level of popularity as some of other outstanding Mexican blooded fighters of fairly recent vintage: Canelo, Oscar, Morales, Barrera or even Marquez.

Part of the reason is that Mexican nationals don't always fully embrace Mexican American fighters. And again, Garcia isn't an attention getting dynamic personality.

But while Garcia's popularity doesn't rival those mentioned, he's still likely to attract the attention of Latinos who will still tune in in greater numbers than they would for non-Latino fighters.

Enough to maybe make this a profitable PPV, but not enough to make it a monster success.

Official Weigh in:

Garcia: 145 LBS
Spence: 146 1/4 LBS

IBF weigh in tomorrow morning. Garcia really packed on some muscle for this. I've already changed my vote on the poll twice. I'm 50/50 on this fight.

Not if you look at Arreola first! My lord the boy is soft and has folds in his boobs! Garcia does look like he may have 2/3 LBS around his middle.

- Mikey looking thick and Spence skinny.

Lot of Big Man expectations on Spense he never had before, and Mikey a cool customer the one making the fight.

Could be "I zee sometink" Max Schmeling/Joe Louis I déjà vu all over again. Gonna get dicey win/lose or draw for sure.

And who's that guy in the middle? Zounds!

I ask because Richard Schaeffer, whose new boxing company is co-promoting the fight, insists that PPV sales could easily top 1 million.

That seems like dreaming. Few fights these days come anywhere near that number.

Despite their talents, neither Spence or Garcia have the personal charisma to attract casual fans. And you need plenty of those to reach that million figure.

I think that it may exceed the Fury-Wilder fight which was in the neighborhood of 325,000. But probably not by much. Pacquiao-Broner did about 400,000 but they were bigger names than either Garcia or Spence.

And the price for PPV, $75 in the US, isn't going to help.

I understand that it will be televised free in the UK.

I
On ESPN it's nowhere near front page. I live in Dallas and the buzz is minimal.
You have to be either Lomachenko, Crawford or Beltran before ESPN hypes you to death.
Espn is all about the ufc. The front of their boxing is conlan.

I expected Garcia to look a hell of a lot more ripped after several months of reputed hi-tech training and doing whatever he did with Conte.

He looks pretty much like the same soft bodied guy who fought Lipinets at 140.

Garcia looks fine to me.
I wonder that him not having to do any extreme draining might transpire into increased stamina.
Oh, and I still have no clue to who wins, and yes, I've read everyone's justifications in the thread.
Looking forward to the whole card really.

He put on muscle under the fat tissue. The South American Indian genetics are dominant in him. He usually looks like that. Looks are deceiving. He's quite the athlete.

Is it more/most like:

Spinks vs Tyson
Curry vs McCallum
Armstrong vs Robinson
Rigondeaux vs Crawford
Trinidad vs Hopkins

For some odd reason I also thought of Tzyz vs Judah.... not that it had to do with weight, but more skill set/power/chin... but really mixed.
I think you're referring to Rigo vs Loma
Actually.... I meant Crawford vs Gamboa

Mikey in his last 2 fights was touched up to the body more often than I've ever seen, and faded late against both guys. He pounded on them and they both took late rounds off him and really disproved this whole bullshit great defense talk to me. Above 135lbs, Mikey isn't quite the force he was. Bigger guys taking his shots better, hitting him harder. Jumping in with Errol, that gap grows even bigger, the margin for error drops to zero, and Spence brings a pace and an explosiveness/power that will challenge Mikey's IQ and ability to adjust like never before. If Errol gets the jab going, starts sticking the body and having his way, this is gonna get ugly.. There are ways to beat mikey's great timing, disrupting it is one. Explosiveness, activity, there are ways.. Errol is going to beat Mikey with precision power shots, the pace, the power, and the grit. This guy got EJ mad. And for some reason Mikey thinks he's Wille Pep wont get caught clean despite all the recent evidence to the contrary.
