Guys, I was looking over some photos from the WBHF of 2004 and I was bummed out when I saw this photo and some others from that event. Look at that. Genero Hernandez, Kenny Lane and Mando Ramos all gone. Moreover, I came across photos containing Ernie Lopez, Diego Corrales, Joe Miceli and Danny Valdiva who have all since left this plane. Guys, we have to keep our HOF's, events, interviews and stories going for posterity.

Attention everybdy!!

One of the original founders of the World Boxing Hall of Fame, Dub Harris, passed away on June 27, 2011. His services will take place in a few days and I will again send this memo out to all of you with the time and place.

Dub Harris was a great man!! His is admired because he was a decorated war hero who flew airplanes in WW II.
He lead, as President and as Vice President for almost 27 years, the World Boxing Hall of Fame.

May he rest in Peace!!!...................he will always be in our corner!!

Seriously, do you ever walk into a room and, after you've arrived, you think, "What the heck did I come in here for??" :witzend:

Three rules every geezer should follow:

1. Never pass up a bathroom,

2. Never waste a hard-on, and

3. Never trust a fart.

Very true, Dan. That is why our interviews are also important. We have Mando's last interview on video. And it was a good one!
We also have Lou Filippo.

Haye vs. Young Lurch . . .

I find it difficult to consider myself rooting for a guy like David Haye. He's not my idea of a heavyweight contender.
I don't care if a champion is cocky or talkative, I grew up in the era of Ali so I got used to hearing bullshit flowing from the mouths of boxers.
However, this time a guy I don't "care for" is facing one that I consider the worst example of Heavyweight Champion I've ever seen.
Vlad K. is BIG, and that is where it ends. I know better than anybody that BIG alone ain't enough, and "too big" is a liability, not an asset.
The only thing keeping the title for Vlad is the fact that he is facing unskilled challengers that don't know how to bring a big guy's chin down to a workable level.
Smaller champs of the past, such as Marciano, would have bent the big man so far forward with body damage he'd have skinned his chin on the canvas.
And brother Lurch's mile-long reach would not be a factor. Little Floyd Patterson, would have had a field day.
Vlad K. has a weaker chin, evidence that everytime he hits the canvas, he stays put until the count has safely been tolled.
Floyd threw a nice hook to the liver, and slammed crosses directly into smaller targets than Klitschko's big torso.
But the best part of what Floyd did was launch what he called his "Gazelle Punch". A leaping over-hand right to the jaw.
Eastern Eurpoeans do not understand unorthodox, they are too structured, and they have a tendency to quit when facing challenges. Remember the "Missles of October"?
On Saturday we don't have the luxury of a good American heavyweight, the kind that were once very common in this country.
Great Britain no longer has Lennox Lewis, or even Henry Cooper.
What Great Britain has is a guy who would have been a six-round fighter in the 70's, fighting a typical bully type personality Eastern Europe.
I'll root for the prelim kid to take the title. If he can do that, I will one day guarantee him induction into somebody's Hall of Fame, and I will be honored to shake his hand. :OhYes:

Bob Montgomery, who disputes the world's lightweight title with Ike Williams, had matters all his own way when he disposed of Joey Barnum, a local lad, at Los Angeles recently. The Bobcat was loudly booed as he left the ring, chiefly because of an after-the-bell punch that sent his opponent to one knee. Barnum was floored early in the seventh round, got up, but was out on his feet when the referee stopped the fight....Frank, do you remember Joey Barnum, he was a friend of "Golden Boy" Aragon..

ALTHOUGH it is generally agreed that Enrique Bolanos, the Californian lightweight, is the logical contender for Ike Williams' world championship, there are two other boys who will be treading on his coat-tails pretty heavily before the year is out. Bolanos clashes with the champion at Los Angeles on May 26 and it will be a return meeting. just over two years ago they met in the same town when Ike won by a knockout in eight rounds, but a lot happened since then. Williams beat Bob Montgomery for the undisputed possession of the 135 Ib. bauble, but there are suspicions that the Trenton title-holder is slipping just a teeny-weeny bit. Bolanos had 18 fights after the title affair to the end of last year and he won 13 of them by the knock out route, four others were points victories and one was drawn. No losses. It is quite a record and he should make Ike travel. Leading lights to challenge the winner of the Williams-Bolanos clash are Johnny Williams, from Montgomery, Alabama, and Freddie Dawson, the Chicago flash..

A CHICANA IN HEAVEN!

A middle aged Chicana had a heart attack and was taken

to the hospital.

While on the operating table, she had a near death experience

and the Creator appeared before her.

Seeing the Creator, she asked, "Dios mio, is my time

up?"

Dios said, "No mijita, you have another 43 years, two months and eight days to live."

The Chicana decided to stay in the hospital and have the

works done: face-lift, liposuction, chi-chi lift, nalga lift and pansa

tuck. (Write back if you need spanglish-translation)

She was all excited because she knew she had a long life

ahead and wanted to look bien chingona!

After her final operation, she was released from the hospital.

While crossing the street on her way to a taqueria, she was hit and killed by a bus.

Arriving in front of the Creator, she demanded, "Orale

pues...que Paso? I thought you said I had another 40 years to go? Why didn't you pull me out of the path of that pinche bus?"

The Creator replied, "Orale chica, I didn't recognize you

Paul, I did know Joey back in the day, not well though. I only seen him fight live one time, late in his career I seen him against Baby Ortiz at the Ocean Park Arena in '51. He and Aragon fought more than once I think. He lost lots of fight, but they were all to the top lightweights of that era. After he retired he was a bail bonds man with an office in El Monte, which is about 5 miles from my house.
