'GOLDEN BOY' ART ARAGON QUITS BOXING
Los Angeles, Jan 23 1960
Art Aragon "Golden Boy" of boxing, has called it quits after a 16 year career in which he received more than a million dollers in purses. The 32 year old native of New Mexico reached his decision here thursday night after suffering a ninth round technical knockout by Alvaro Gutierrez. "I'm glad I didn't win" Aragon said after the defeat. "If I had won I would have fought again and I'd wind up getting hurt. I'm glad it's over."

Danny McAlinden is battling tongue cancer, the former British heavyweight champion who brought excitement to every fight. If you want to see a fun fight, the kind of free-swinging brawl you enjoy after watching a couple of classy welterweights, check out the two rounds Danny and Jack Bodell serve up:

I'm sad to hear that - win, lose or draw, Danny was always interesting to watch. He was never in a dull fight, and his comments were always lively, provocative and amusing. I hope he makes a full recovery!

Exceptional Rankings. Because of this site-I am now familiar with most,if not all, of these greats.

Randy, The Hawk fought Cal champ Danny Valdez twice, winning once, losing once. both were close fights. Danny Valdez is a regular at GSBA events.
Valdez is from Maravilla, like the Pimentel brothers, Ruben Navarro, etc. He was a helluva fighter, fought Davey Moore for the world title.
Eventually Hawkins would win the state title by KOing Frankie Crawford in 1968.

When my kids were small we had a Golden Retriever, the best dog I ever had.
It broke our hearts to have to put him down when cancer was causing him to suffer.
I know how you feel, pal.

Okay...what's wrong with this picture, I spend all day everyday on construction sites babysitting grumpy, out of shape, dirty men as the drip sweat and spit sunflower seeds all over my jobsite and RICK gets to hang out with an elite crop of hand selected beauties in Hollywood as the lounge around wearing less than their underware! How is this fair?

Well at least we could have some good conversations; poor Rick is probably having a hard time finding anyone to talk boxing with or have a meaningful conversation with. :o
