I watched this one yesterday, on my smart tv.
Tremendous fight. Very Challenging step-up for SRL at That specific time.
SRL's trainer wound up being A bit upset at Angelo Dundee, during and after this bout, believing that Dundee had made
A Rather Bad choice in picking an ideal opponent for Leonard at this specific point in time.

Geraldo, at 6'1, weighed in at 160. He was basically the same size as Iran Barkley.
SRL weighed in at 153, and had his clothes and shoes on for the weigh-in.
He was probably actually weighing more like around 149 lbs.
This bout took place in 1979. It was SRL's follow up bout from his 1st round Tko win over Daniel Aldo Gonzalaz.

It went the 10 round distance with SRL winning by a UD.
Geraldo Did have his moments though, especially in the 3rd round.
It was Really something how he took all those Very Flush on the face punches, without going down.
SRL staggered Geraldo at the end of one of the rounds(The 7th I think..?)
With a Left hook. SRL threw it almost similar to the way Floyd Patterson would throw Haymaker leaping left hook punches.

I just watched this classic lightweight bout earlier today.

It went the 15 round distance with Canzanari winning a 15 round decision.

Ambers impressed me more though. His movement was very modernistic.

As I was watching this bout, I kept thinking to myself, WoW, Roy Jones Jr, with his style and approach, HAD to have been heavily influenced by Lou Ambers. They're styles Coincide So Profoundly. And as for whom Ambers was influenced by, I'd say probably likely was heavily influenced by Benny Leonard.

Yeh both looked gassed, Coetzee down early then got knocked out pretty hard in the 8th, rumours of a long round though

He was a regular sparring partner for prime Mike Tyson and as one could imagine, only the most durable guys could handle that assignment. Oliver McCall was another guy tasked to spar with Iron Mike.

Ray Leonard's early fights are a joy to watch.

The man had everything.

Antonio Gomez - Shozo SaiJo

This bout was held in Japan, in 1971. It would wind up being SaiJo's last pro bout, as he was beaten down badly and
stopped in the 5th round, after going down three times in that round. In an earlier round, SaiJo went down, but then fought
back Furiously, igniting his home-country fans into a Frenzy. It looked as though SaiJo had attained an unstoppable groove and was likely going to win, but then, suddenly, in the 5th round, Gomez unloaded a Brutal overhand right, crumpling SaiJo, who valiantly got up, but was too much out of it by then To be able to fight back like he did in that Wildly entertaining earlier round.

I had never known before of this particular bout. It was on the YouTube Boxing bout videos recommended list yesterday.
Something inside of me urged me to check it out. I wasn't disappointed initially, and that one particular round was Amazing, but then, after the bout was over, i Was feeling bad for Shozo SaiJo, after he was beaten like that.
He was such a high spirited boxer and a Brave Warrior Soul, but unfortunately got caught and then got badly beaten in that 5th round.

Following this bout, Gomez would go 7 wins and 5 losses for the remainder of his pro boxing carear.
His final pro boxing record reads 43-7 with 20 Ko's. Obviously, Overall, at least carear-wise, he wasn't known to be a knockout artist, and Shozo had never been Ko'd or Tko'd before they're 1971 bout. Gomez apparently found a way inside of himself to become a Brutal Ko puncher for this particular bout though. As already basically stated, this turned out to be a carear ending finale brawl of a boxing bout for the apparently very popular Shozo SaiJo.
I'm wondering if his decision to retire after this bout/loss was His Personal decision or based off of a Strong recommendation to hang up the boxing gloves, by The Doctor's sternly advised orders.
