Most of the folks near me winced when it landed. I thought it was just a cheekbone. My old man immediately said "serious".
I told Mrs Hangover it was the eye socket, like Dempsey against Willard. She agreed. I love that my woman knows more about Jack Dempsey than most boxing fans.
lol poor old Willard's injury was slightly worse than Brook's.

The middles GGG's been squashing are second raters. Brook is a first rater, but a welter.
i don't see why golovkins punches wouldn't have had the same effect on a middleweight version of kell, its not as if being naturally bigger would help brook do a better job of avoiding them.

confidently stating that the outcome would be different if kell were a middleweight is laughable

You might have if he had to torture himself to get down to 160 the way Kell did for 147 and not be 5lbs from weight 30 days out.

Why? Because he got his arse reamed?

A welterweight titlist against the best middleweight in the world was only going to end one way. Love to know how many suckers paid Fast Eddie and Sky for this.

The size difference was noticeable in the ring tonight though.

Better to lose to GGG and be a hero than the (to casuals) 'unknowns' like Landy, Boo-Boo Andrade etc.

It's got to be cash out vs Khan - @ catch weight ?
Yes.

Because GGG is a Middleweight and that's his best fighting weight. Why should he move up in weight?
Well brook didn't need to either but he did. Also Golovkin is supposed to be this monster who beat up Kovalev in sparring- surely he's good enough to do it?
Just because YOU CAN do something doesn't mean you should.

I could see GGG walking through Ward
Defo a 50/50 imo

If you don't understand how being a naturally smaller man can hinders one's ability to absorb the punches of a larger man then you are a lost cause.

WTF are you on? Cash out? He's got one loss to his name FFS. Why the hell would he cash out? Utter balls.

Just like he wouldn't go to 168 to fight Ward when he was competing at the weight but he would go to 168 to fight anyone else at that weight class.

BTW I'm surprised so many here gave Brook the round in which his eye was busted. GGG did by far the most damage and was landing well with the left that round...

So Brook has a suspected fractured eye socket because he's normally a welterweight? What the fvck are you on?

So? It wasn't ever a fight I had much interest in anyway. I'm perfectly content with GGG fighting as a Middleweight for his entire career. So many guys have done the weight class jumping thing that fans have come to think it's something you have to do. It's not.

As soon as you park the subjective desire to frame the Brit fighter in the best light possible it becomes a fairly routine GGG defence - by the end of the fight he looked like he'd been in a sparring session and in his own mild-mannered fashion he explained Brook clearly wasn't a Middleweight i.e. he felt in complete control and able to walk him down. I think he tried to walk through him at first and underestimated Kell's skill and willingness to trade, but while I thought Brook showed great heart and some slick moves, did anyone honestly feel that at any point it was anything more than just a matter of time? As others have said, as soon as GGG settled down into a constant stalk you felt a sense of inevitability about it.

Not what you seem to be discussing. Run along Keith, I'm not interested in anything you have to say.

Because the current middleweight division is full of B and C class fighters. It's a weak division right now.

I can't stand it.

Golovkin should only move up if he completely cleans house at middleweight. Which he's nowhere near done so far.

This, just a matter of time
Khan was probably beating canelo at the time of ko, but less expected
