I felt Parker won a few rounds, but I definitely had Joyce comfortably ahead.
Parker's best shots bounced off his noggin like a football off a car roof, is the thing, so if we were scoring by reaction we'd say “Nah, didn't hurt him — it doesn't count”. But obviously, on points, some of those punches were round-winners.
One of those fights where points and attrition didn't match up.
i think i had jp coming back in to it before that huge ko i think jp was absolutely running on empty when he went down got back up aswell what a warrior
He was running on empty after 3 rounds. If you only have the stamina to fight 30 second per round you'd better have Holmes like connect percentage and JP doesn't.

Has any current HW got a chin as good as Joyce? Maybe Chauncy Welliver?

wach was the hw chin standard for the last decade.......his fight with wlad was something else. flush power shots all night from an agressive wlad, yet never even down
at 42 or something he finally got dropped a couple fightss ago by makmudov, but even that was after being clubbed like 10 with overhand roundhouses from big mak, and he got back up and looked clear headed

Joyce gets hit an awful lot. He might end up with brain damage against wilder, even of he wins.
Even if you're chin is rock solid, it's not good for your brain.

i would say no but jp isn't a known for his power, dd was but i take a guess and say everyone he has ko has been ko before bar gorman but he came to fight, so has he been in with a real banger yet or anyone bigger than him probably not . i am not taking anything away it was jj it was his best win tonight , again iam talking top of tree again so not digging him out

That's the only thing I don't like about watching him fight, because I like him a lot. I hope he gets out healthy before he's 39.
Ideally his next opponent's Usyk or Fury.

i dont think many guys in the division punch harder than dubs, joyce didnt even flinch at his shots. obviously a seriously sturdy chin
that said i would be hesistant to just assume he's un-knockoutable. especially if he gets caught in the middle of throwing one of his own shots i wouldnt exactly be shocked to find him on his arse.
chins are funny things. you can get ko'd by someone who doesnt punch anything near as hard a guy whose shots you already took. you can get wobbelled by everything early, then eat it up like it's nothing afterwards. joyce is more vulnerable to the body probably too, though few hws are good body punchers

Might sound odd, but I honestly don’t think Wilder is an overall big puncher. He’s got a huge right hand but he usually has to wind it up, I reckon Joyce would be able to avoid it if he tried. He barely lands a decent shot, other than that.
I’d worry a lot more for Joyce’s brain in a 12 rounder against Usyk.

Makes me sad to realise Joyce is 37. There are so many weird and wonderfull matchups for him that I want to see befor he starts fading. He really is a once in a lifetime fighter (not saying he is the best, but there’s never been anyone quite like Joyce.)

Talking of Dubs, that is someone I'd like to see fight Wilder.
I haven't written Helenius off yet, but I'd recommend he hardly ever jabs. He's slow enough to invite Wilder's bingo punch over the top at distance, so I'd advise him to just keep pressuring Wilder to the ropes behind a high guard, where he's stronger and (if I'm correct) punches harder up close.
No other heavy can match Wilder for the speed and power of his righthand at range, but if he hasn't fully recovered mentally, and what with Hel on a renewed run of form, I can see it being tough for D if the big man doesn't try jabbing with him.

Someone made the comparison to Froch earlier, which I totally get. Fighters who are just way more than the sum of their parts, the usual attempts at boxing skill attributes ‘top trumps’ don’t apply.

The other thing I can’t work out with Joyce is he never ever marks up.
He has these huge scars around his left eye, they almost look like the facial stab wounds that guy in Platoon has. I always wonder what the story is behind them.
But vs Dubois and here vs Parker he ships shots and yet no black eyes, no cuts, no bumps, no bruises, no swellings.

Called that one right. I had Joyce by 10 or 11 corner retirement, so not too far off the mark. I’d think Wilder would do Dubs in 3.

Brilliant perform by JJJ. He seems like he would be AJs worst nightmare. It's been a while since I've seen a fighter so effective at making the other guy fight his fight.
The criticism of Joyce over the years is redundant. "He's too slow", well, his hands are but he's actually very light on his feet and closes range brilliantly. A true force at heavyweight.

That right hand Parker landed early on, that sounded like a shotgun blast won him the round on my card, but barely fazed Joyce. The writing was on the wall after that.

Joyce's heart deserves zero credit btw, I don't think he feels pain, didn't notice the fatigue some mentioned either, the guys a phenomenon a genuine one off
i didnt notice the fatigue either, he never stopped
It might seem churlish to mention this after the best win of Joyce’s career but Is nobody else very curious as to how a 37 year old 19 stone heavyweight can relentlessly come forward all night with a huge punch output, absorb some heavy shots and still seem relatively fresh at the end ?
