I’ll have to watch this back team, I wouldn’t have had a problem with 16-12, but everyone who knows their stuff has said it was well closer than 17-11.

Pretty much all of us who were scoring it round by round on here had Catterall winning comfortably. Must admit I'm wondering how many people now claiming bad scorecards were actually doing the same?

To me, it was one of those fights where one guy does slightly more nearly every round and comes away with a lopsided win which doesn't necessarily show how close it was. But that's how you score boxing

Well that’s EXACTLY what I think. If you scored it how you score a boxing match, The Cat won it quite wide. The surprise was that Taylor came on strong late on, I thought he was zombified at 140

Fury v Ngannou is a prime example. Maybe it’s to do with social media or sound bites or instant reactions. No one scores a boxing match like a boxing match anymore

Absolutely! Pundits regularly seem to contradict themselves where it's apparent that their maths is as reliable as Wayne Rooney's Toppik, or go for the ' I had it by 2 or 3' failsafe.

I thought the opposite was true in that Catterall won his rounds ‘bigger’. The 4th, 5th & 11th were all huge Catterall rounds but there were enough close rounds that you could fairly get to Taylor winning 115-113 (I scored it 115-113 to Catterall).

If you just watched 36 mins straight with no breaks then I would say Catterall clearly won the fight hurting his opponent several times & landing the more eye catching shots but on a round by round basis he could’ve even lost it if Taylor gets all the close rounds.

I watched from ringside, no commentary, didn't care who won, not swayed by crowd (60-40 Catt). I thought Catt won by a couple. I noticed Bob watches his on a little telly right in front of him, hidden away.

Looking back at this thread, I had it 7-3 Cat after 10 but said a couple of those rounds were very close. 11th was obviously a Catterall round, but if someone scored the 2 close ones I mentioned to Taylor and also gave him the 12th, they'd have it a draw. Just shows how fine the margins are really.

So many pundits are asked “how did the have it” or “how did you score it” the correct answer would generally be “I didnt score it as such but it felt like. *** - ***
If you “have” scored it there’s no such thing as 2 or 3 this way or that way.
Judges I’m sure would love to get to the end of a fight then pick a score that generally sums up the fight they have seen “overall” ..it don’t work like that!

I completely agree with James and a couple of other posters that a lot of people don't understand how to score a fight. It is 12 separate situations that are scored on that basis. You may not like the system but that's how it is.

If I'm out having a beer with my boxing mates we tend to go for the "who do we think is winning" generalist approach. If we are all in separate places watching the fight and we score it properly on a round by round basis, we rarely disagree.

Only the 2nd last night where a couple of the boys scored it for JT. Most of us were JC.

Not sure why this is drawing so much criticism.

Not as wide as some of the judges had it but Catterall was a deserved winner (for a change). He won his rounds much more clearly and even those which were 'tight', you can make a case that he pick up some of those, too.

I think it's a shame it wasn't on Sky. The build up and fight would have got a lot of casual viewers

If Dalton Smith wins the European in his next fight and has all 3 domestic titles, do you think they may try and tempt Taylor into a fight, and if you were Taylor's management would you take that?

The cards were a bit too wide, but the right man won.

I scored it for Catterall 115-113. He landed the cleaner punches in most of the rounds.

very interesting, big step up for Smith, I suppose it depends on if Taylor thinks/wants to fight at world level again or is going to do a domestic cash out fight vs Smith.

Be a great fight but probably wouldnt interest taylor and his team. Bit like bud with ennis, these fights rarely appeal to the older fighter chasing the paydays. They want a name.
