Sergio Martinez over rated . . .

I don't consider him third in talent behind Pac and Mayweather, Nonito Donaire is superior.
I know Martinez would benefit financially from a bout with either Pac or Floyd, but he wouldn't win.
Both Floyd or Pac would beat the crap out of him. But the fight should never happen.
Let the middleweight find a 160 pounder to embarrass him.
And when the going gets real rough, you won't see an Argentine boxer fight like a Mexican.
History validates this.

Big day today. my daughter's boyfriend, Josh, asked Jeri and I for our youngest daughter's (Savannah) hand in marriage. Of course we gave him our blessings. He proposed to her earlier tonight. She accepted. We could not have asked for a better young man for her.

I gotta tell you guys though. this is my baby. So you know how I feel!

A meal after me own heart!! As my father, the late, great Andy De La O, used to say "It's the only way to eat". He was right!

You have had more than your share of that type food. I eat the crap as well, but not often.
Randy, let's not kid each other, our parents meant well but didn't know shit about nutrition.
You and I have a dream about one day opening an old school boxing gym.
I'd really like to do it, but I won't do it alone. I'm best as part of a team, won't do it for myself.
If you are old, fat, have a weak "ticker", etc. you won't enjoy it as much as if you are pro-active.
Eat healthy, workout regardless of hours employed. I'm currently working 7 days a week, 12-14 hours. I get up 30 min. early, stretch out, warm-up, sit-ups, push-ups, shadow box, light work with 2-3lb dumbells. When I step on a set, I'm wide awake, loose, ready to go. You need to get up 30 min. early, have Jeri fix you oatmeal, some toast on whole grain bread, a banana, coffee and O.J. With your breakfast you take a vitamin-mineral-amino acid supplement.
Didn't know I was eating crap. Gotta tell Connie not to make me any crap anymore... :witzend:

I feel a need to stick up for my pal Rick here. I can say with 100% without a doubt that he was not insulting Connie's cooking but speaking in general terms about fried foods, high carb foods high salt content, sugar and all the other foods that we, if not totally ban from our diets, need to at least cut down. We all grew up with that type of cooking.

My own mother, who changed her way of cooking 30 years ago after my father died has constantly preached to me over the years about my eating habits. I tell her "Are you kidding me? You were my pusher. You're the one that got me addicted!" It's hard for Jeri to change too. Way back when we would save the bacon and chicken fat in the freezer for future use. We eliminated that years ago. We cut down on a lot of the fried foods, try to steam or saute our vegetables in olive oil and make changes where we can. Old habits die hard though. For old school eater like me, it's a life long battle.

For the most part, I have changed my way of eating, however at least once or twice a month I have to have me a regular hearty breakfast. But is Rick correct about the old eating habits that we all grew up on? He is 100% correct. I wish the hell he wasn't but he is. I slip every once in a while and sometimes it takes a friend to tell you the truth. That's what Rick was doing.

Randy, you are right in that most of the old eating habit are not the healthiest. We too have done away with most of the old way of cooking, but now and then, as I did the day I posted those pictures, I eat more for my enjoyment then for my health, after all getting close to 75 years of age I feel I am entitled to say "the hell with this bland food, let me have something to satisfy my taste buds", I say that at least once a week, and when I do Connie will cook "crap" if you will, for me.

The above is the last I will say on Connie's cooking....let's get on to something else... :TU:

For the first time I was disappointed in Sergio Martinez. He didn't look like a world beater last night despite stopping Darren Barker in the 11th round. Still, anyone can have an off night. Barker gave him a tougher than expected fight. A fighter of Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather's caliber would have capitalized on Martinez' flaws. On another night? Who knows?

Martinez is hard to read . . . He has such an unorthodox style. And he is a counter-puncher at heart, so he may have had problems because Barker seemed hesitant.

I think he'd have trouble with Mayweather, but I actually think a fight with Pac would be good because Pac would not be afraid to attack. I think Pac-Martinez would actually be an interesting fight.

Was it just me, or did it look to any of you like Barker might have laid down? The punch that stopped him didn't seem to have much on it. However, it was behind the ear, so maybe it messed up his balance or something . . .

I agree Frank, maybe he feels pressured to compete with the likes of Mayweather. Stick with what got you there. can't go wrong with that. I don't think he's designed to be a "Cutie pie".

Do you think he's trying to look cute, or is he trying to get them to lead so that he can counter? (Or maybe both . . . )

I just think that the punches took their toll on him over the course of the fight. The last couple of punches might not have put him down on their own but I think he just had enough, physically.

I think that it was more a accumulation of punches then that one last punch that did him in. But he'll be back to fight Chavez Jr. or Alvarez since he can't punch much, just the saved kind of guy that Chavez and Alvarez people will be looking for.
