Re: Classic American West Coast Boxing
I am sorry to learn that Enrique Bolanos, a terrific fighter and one of the best drawing cards in Los Angeles boxing history, has passed away. Hope that his family and friends accept my condolences.

Re: Classic American West Coast Boxing
Charlie, Enrique was indeed one of the greats during his era. He was one of the first big draws at the Olympic. I was a big fan of boxing, not of boxers, (still am) but Enrique was the one fighter I idolize in my youth....I was at his fight v Terry Young at the Olympic.CNorkusJr wrote:That is sad news Frank. Enrique was one of the greats from the 40's. Lulu Constantino is considered here on the East Coast as one of those guys you didnt want to face in the ring. Much like Jake LaMotta was with middleweights. Bolanos backed up Constantino into the ropes all night. Thats saying something. Same with Terry Young, who fought tough fights here as well. The LA Fans must have loved him every time he stepped into the ring.kikibalt wrote:Sad news, my boyhood hero Enrique Bolanos died today.

Bolanos should be considered one of the first top-contenders into the Intl HOF if they ever open it up to guys who never wore a national belt.
Did he ever talk to you about his fights with Ike Williams, Frank ? At 5'8 , I would be pretty sure Williams reach had alot to do with Enrique's punch effectiveness. But to go three 3 fights with Ike Williams had to be something.

Gents, any help in identifying any of these former pugilists would be helpful!
They may simply be lost to the ages.....but I figure it's worth the effort.
If you think you can ID anyone just drop me a PM
(They say many hands (or eyes in this case) make for light work. )
Thanks!

My son Tony Baltazar, seen here with Candi Marks, representative of the Manitoba, Canada Government, was contracted by the Manitoba Government (First Nation Reserve Communities) for a speaking engagement and to talk to their youth....Tony was in The Pas, Manitoba for three days.
