Crazy that a Mexican Heavyweight never even came along to challenge for the Heavyweight title for like 40 years after Frazier.

Ref looked confused on whether he should call time for the mouth piece..he asked AJ if he was ok he said yes..waved it off and he said what you mean?!...
Don't think it mattered AJ was done the round prior in my opinion and his body language wasn't good, spitting out mouthpiece, looking to corner etc...

He was done. Plus, the ref did him a large favor in round 3.

If it were a close fight I'd support a rematch, but AJ got the crap kicked out of him, so I agree with you.
It was a winnable fight for AJ had he used his jab instead of trying to stupidly blast Ruiz out. Ruiz won fair and square but AJ would still be seen as favourite in rematch i guess.

Pretty much anyone Ruiz Jr. fights would be favored, I suppose, which means nothing. Ruiz Jr. owns the keys to the castle.

Crikey those scorecards were suspect. Glad it finishes early or we would have seen another Persoon Taylor fiasco on the same card

Wow. Who saw that coming? Many many congratulations to Andy Ruiz Jnr. - that certainly shakes up the heavyweight division .
As a big fan of Joshua's I'm disappointed, but we all know anything can happen in heavyweight boxing.
Taking the positives what a great boost to all of us who look more like Ruiz than Joshua.
AJ always said that at some point he would take a loss. Let's see how he deals with it.

Great win by Ruiz but not totally unexpected. I thought Ruiz did enough to beat Parker a few years back. He has quick hands and seems like his power has grown. In the recent fights AJ has been getting hit more and more and I thought if Ruiz could land and pressure him he had a chance. Another good heavyweight bout. I think Ruiz will jump at a rematch or look for the big fights straight away with Fury, Wilder. I had given advice to several mate to take the $11 Ruiz was paying - and didn’t do it myself!! Not happy.

I would actually be FAR more interest in Pulev/Ruiz than in a Ruiz/AJ rematch. I don’t like immediate rematches in the majority of cases.
Ruiz v Pulev is an interesting match but I agree it would be criminal of the IBF to strip Ruiz for taking the rematch which he is contractually obliged to do.

Had a dream that Ruiz scored a flash knockdown early in the fight during an exchange.
I can not believe.

AJ didn't want it. He was leaning in thr corner, not raising his gloves, arms at his sides, looking at his vorner. He looked scared.

Ruiz should ignore them and go for the big bucks.

I regret, I didn't watch it live. I thought, it would be a mismatch, but the fight was so intense.
Ruiz proved everyone to be fools, but still the biggest fool was Joshua, cause he jumped on Ruiz after knocking him down, got caught and was crushed after that. Of course, if Joshua was rational, he could have won, but that's only an "if". Joshua made a mistake and was punished for that.
The stoppage was ok, Joshua was standing in the corner for long and wasn't raising his hands. He was battered and exhausted. He didn't want it anymore.

People are going to go nuts over a result but need to evaluate the events that took place to get there. This wasnt Ruiz exposing Joshua over the course of the fight. This was AJ recklessly endangering himself by getting in extended wild exchanges in order to secure a KO, in turn eating a massive shot that would turn the fight upside down and he would never recover from. It took his legs away immediately. Thats what can happen to your body when you dont take an opponent seriously in training. He may look like Adonis but I seriously doubt his cardio was on point in this camp. Against fighters he respects AJ is never getting that reckless and putting himself in such a dangerous position. Understand this.
Good post, my thoughts exactly.
Massive shock though, credit to Ruiz.

Lucky or educated. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and say they saw flaws in AJ that Ruiz speed was going to expose.

It's hard to argue with success but I'd guess there were a few trolls, a few of those who habitually pick the underdog so they can claim the glory if the upset happens, and a few shrewd judges who may have thought Joshua's aversion to fighting shorter opponents, his appearing to be looking past Ruiz (in spite of saying that he wasn't) and Ruiz's hand-speed and toughness all taken together, may have pointed to a Ruiz win. Not too many I'd wager.
I wasn't one of those though. I was a little nervous for Joshua before the fight but that's just me. I'm always nervous for my favourites unless the opposition is weak. I said Ruiz would be a tougher fight than most were expecting, but I did think AJ would win.
A lot of people are already writing off AJ as a hype job, but he still has the best resumé around. This experience could make him a better fighter. Maybe next time he might have a better idea of how to cope when he gets hurt.
Lennox suffered losses but went on to establish himself as a great. So did Wlad, so did Ali, so did Louis, so did ...

That's the truth, but Joshua still had his flaws and today he did a huge mistake. So he was kinda exposed in some sense. His jumping on Ruiz was amateurish. After he was knocked down, he looked like he didn't know what to do.
Again. Cause the same was in Wlad fight.
I was picking The Gypsy King over Joshua and now I'll do it even more confidently.

What are you talking about? Two of three had Ruiz up.
