Re: Round-by-Round: Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Luke Campbell - 31 August 2019
Sterling effort from Campbell, I had him losing 118-109 but he more than deserved to last the distance and held his own at times, used his height and legs to great effect, hit Lomachenko with some hard looking bodyshots all night and was a pest, Lomachenko was Lomachenko but he had to be on his game for the 12 rounds, its clear to see he's never a Lightweight but his skillset is so vast it doesn't matter, his ring IQ is sublime , incredible footwork, the way he darts in and out of range creating angles is a thing of beauty, in and out with the jab, lead left hand, peppered Campbell pinging his head back
Campbell's bodywork was great but Lomachenko's was better, that was what Campbell struggled with more than anything, hurt in the middle rounds and saved by the bell but Campbell done excellent to recover and get back to competing, Lomachenko just never gave him any breathing space though and suffocated Campbell with pressure with his feet, finally Loma scored a knockdown in the 11th, Campbell hurt to the body again, I'm glad he lasted the distance but as great as he was Lomachenko was nearly always ion control, anytime Campbell had a sniff of success Lomachenko snuffed him out, great fight

People get totally swept up in the hoopla of a Eastern Euro fighter with a weird name. Especially impressionable buffoons like me who should know better. There's class to Loma's shots but he has clearly reached his weight limit and Campbell gave him a close night in real world scores. And Campbell is nobody's monster, outside the editorial team of the Gay Times.Grilling Machine wrote: ↑31 Aug 2019, 18:52For sure. I was only casually scoring so there's room for Loma to be a bit ahead, but he wasn't having his own way and Campbell was making it heavy-going for him with lots of those half-landed bodyshots.

I mean tbf, he's not just East European, he's a 2x Olympic champ, and scored nice pro wins as well and clearly won this too
Just find his style so annoying though![[icon_witsend.gif] :witzend:](./images/smilies/icon_witsend.gif)

The scores don't seem fair because it was a competitive hard fought fight.
However Loma won the rounds.

I previously felt that Taylor was probably a jump too far for Loma, and now I'm sure of it. Prograis' limited and oddly slow for his weight, but we'll see if his other attributes make up for that soon enough. And Ramirez is surely too much for Loma.
I'd like to see him go back to 130 to fight the best guys there, before returning to 135 after.

There were certainly rounds where I don't see how you give them to Loma. Mainly in the first half. He was doing nothing at all in some of them.
In the second half though he was hurting Campbell and coming forward more.
It was so frustrating to watch, because Loma was actually really sharp when he did throw, and his jab and body work were top notch. But so many times he just waited and waited and waited while Campbell kept punching

Agree, Loma is definitely better suited to 130, and he shares promoters with Berchelt,. That;'s a good fight, and then we have Tank and Farmer at the same weight.Grilling Machine wrote: ↑31 Aug 2019, 19:03 I previously felt that Taylor was probably a jump too far for Loma, and now I'm sure of it. Yeah, there are some career-enhancing fights left at 130. Then he can move up full-time and take on the big names of the day.
Re: Round-by-Round: Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Luke Campbell - 31 August 2019
The scorecards sucked, the fight was a lot closer. I could accept 116-111 Loma, but any wider i take issue with. Luke deserved a closer card.
Luke fought a great fight and did a great job of nuetralising Lomachenko's offence, he had him way of his game and showed he is not invincible.

The right man won, at least. Can't always say that. But as outclassings go that was right down on my scale.

I agree. I think i had it even after 6, or maybe i had it 4-2 Loma, i did not take notes. I recal two rounds on the trot later in the fight, 8&9 or could have been 9&10, i gave to Campbell. Going into the 11th i thought he had a shot at winning the fight.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑31 Aug 2019, 19:05 There were certainly rounds where I don't see how you give them to Loma. Loma really pisses me off with that. He did the same vs Pedraza. He will hurt a guy and then back off. Go for it man!!forcefraser wrote: ↑31 Aug 2019, 19:12 Loma a class a ove. Could have finished luke in the 11th if he pushed for it

Not me. It's a thing about Loma in general, at least at 135. He's so sharp when he does throw but he spends so much time waiting.
That right jab for instance was so sharp tonight and kept snapping Luke's head back when it was thrown, yet he held it in for much of the contest when it could've been scoring.

Loma was not able to massacre Luke Campbell, as expected by everybody except me, assuming I have time to swiftly edit my 200 posts where I predicted that Loma would perform a ghastly victory dance wrapped in Luke's gory entrails, otherwise as expected by everybody, including me. If he really was this monster he really would have wiped the floor with the twink. For whatever reason, he was unable to claim the ring and squelch the Hull boy, who is good but not great.

Perfectly put. Gave Campbell 3 rounds and can't see an argument for more than 4. Competitive for the most part but on a round by round basis he was often close but not close enough. Valiant effort though.

Loma needs to park his ass at 135lbs and turn off the engine. If he travels any further North, he will be in bother.

Good, he's already reached a point where its his skills versus another fighters physical advantages. Why not one more weight class? Dare to be great Loma.lefthook82 wrote: ↑31 Aug 2019, 19:38 Loma needs to park his ass at 135lbs and turn off the engine. If he travels any further North, he will be in bother.
