They should go to 3-minute rounds for Shields-Marshall and Serrano-Taylor, and those are the only female fights I'll watch this year.
Whereas I'd much rather watch men boxing than UFC, I'm vice versa with women. Despite my dislike of ground-and-pound, I've seen a few entertaining female fights in UFC, but can't think of any in boxing.
I think boxing's main problem is its lack of female history, and there's typically more acclaim for the top women in UFC right now. At least if they're based in the US. Every heavyweight champ since the 1970s has made a few more quid thanks to Ali, and when Tyson tore through the division in the '80s, he inspired a generation.
If you were trying to get boxing off the ground against UFC without that history today, you'd struggle. Female boxing's still waiting for its first classic fight, and the sooner it goes to 3-minute rounds the more likely we are to see one in the next decade.
These 2-minute rounds are an admission the appetite isn't there for longer bouts among fans, and that's true. I fully support female boxing, but until there's a richer pool of talent, their world-title padding's even more inevitable than usual.
