I always enjoy posters who watch boxing via an IPTV Firestick, don’t buy Boxing News or the Ring, rarely if ever go to the fights and then come on boxing forums , complaining about the quality of the shows, what a rip off DAZN is and how they haven’t read boxing news since the dawn of the internet. I don’t know how the business survives without them.
I don't have a Firestick but, yes, I don't buy DAZN, buy Boxing News or The Ring but I do buy tickets for shows and train people for free. So I do my bit.
It was absolutely nothing personal to you. I’m sure your love of boxing is equal or indeed greater than mine. It’s the same with rugby in south Wales where I live. Outsiders think Wales is a rugby hotbed but remove the casuals on international days, the p1ssed women and 45 year old men with a dragon painted on their cheek paying £130 for a ticket to get likes on social media and all you’ve got is people watching itv or bbc in the pub. The club game is completely dead. These ‘ fanatics ‘ put £0 into the sport. Football is a hundred times bigger than rugby in Wales, no matter what anyone says.

I have edited my previous post, mate, have a read. Your point is 100% valid. Like I say on my edit, my interest is in well matched fights at any level but particularly when people are doing it for very little (amateur boxing, bareknuckle, greco-roman, freestyle and judo) monetary reward. The big business side of it is what pro boxing is all about, I get that, but I think that boxing itself could manage fine without it if done right.

p.s. on rugby, do you not think that it is professionalism that has killed club rugby?

Back in the day there was a very healthy club system particularly in hotbeds like Pontypridd, Pontypool and loads of other places around the valleys. This centred on the club house and the bar and had a connection to the community. Even this was exaggerated by the pro-rugby local media. As soon as they went to professional ‘ regions ‘ that had no history, no back story and then unbelievably started paying players like they were footballers they were f@cked. Paying players £10k a week with under 4000 crowds and tiny tv deals was only going to end one way. All the regions have gone bust only to be bailed out by the governing body. Cardiff are in that position now. The sport is completely reliant on international games and particularly what they take at the bar. There’s always some trouble at these games and the WRU are terrified that the police are going to ban drinking pitchside. The whole thing is cheap and embarrassing . Yet for some reason the ‘ narrative ‘ that Wales is all rugby, male voice choirs and coal mining remains. You’d think it was still the 1970s the way that some of these arseholes go on. I blame Max Boyce. I don’t think he bothers going any more. The football team plays in front of full houses with loads of kids and it’s showing in the results. Qualifying for 2 Euros ( one semi final ) and a World Cup while the rugby team has lost something like 17 matches in a row. The pro-rugby b@locks the local media come out with make Putin look like a lightweight.

Back in the amateur days when I played junior rugby we used to tour Wales and the Welsh teams were hard as nails, real dirty bastards but we respected them for it. Had some great scraps and got battered several times. Most of the clubhouses and changing facilities were shitholes but it was always a good laugh having some scran and a drink after the games. We were getting proper smashed on lager as 14-year-olds on tours. Happy days. The pro game was never going to stack up for the reasons you laid out.

Just read Boxing Scene are being frozen out of attending events, including Benn v Eubank.
Must admit as a BN subscriber, it didn't sit well that former editors and writers had switched to a free internet website in direct competition with BN, and therefore undermining the old girl.

Very telling, the sorry state that the formerly great boxingnews now finds itself in, in the hands of Rob Tebbit,
unlimited access to all shows because they’re singing the right notes and firmly in the promoters back pockets.
Harry mullan spinning in his grave - what a travesty

It seems like it’s The Ring who are restricting access to the Boxing Scene guys. It’s a shame because they’re the best source of boxing articles online.

Boxing Scene is just another website. It's hard for me to take anything purely digital as seriously as a proper boxing magazine. Maybe that's my age but I have a quick scroll through then leave, whereas I read BN cover to cover.

CBS uses to own it. Not anymore.
Some Writers moved over to Ring, including Jake D, but he came back to BS.

They've just announced The Ring digital is now free and they're refunding everyone who bought it.

Probably a good idea. I can't imagine they got many subscribers at all.

Triss Dixon's editorial on the site makes for great reading.
To paraphrase him he reckons that Turki's Ring Magazine is wanting to be the go to source for boxing news and opinion which would be heavily slanted towards their own product.
Therefore BS has to be squeezed out and denying press access is the start of the Dirty War.

This is just the start. You wait till Turki really gets going. The fight purses will be slowly driven down to a more profitable margin just like the UfC business model. It's pretty obvious what the plan is

The Saudis have no intention of playing fair, it's not something they're known for. Last night's fight showed how much this country loves boxing, we don't even need anyone 'solving boxing'.
The second someone invents a tiny, powerful and removable battery for cars and machines, the Saudis will be stuck in the desert with nothing anyway. It can't be too far away.

Every time the camera went round the crowd big groups of people had "The Bible Of Boxing" caps on. No way people were paying £30 each for them.

The Arabs are well aware of this.
The founder of Dubai, Sheikh Rashid, was asked about the future of his country. He replied, "My grandfather rode a camel, my father rode a camel, I ride a Mercedes, my son rides a Land Rover, and my grandson is going to ride a Land Rover…but my great-grandson is going to have to ride a camel again."
