Muhammad Ali vs Leon Spinks 1+2

First time I'd seen either fight and was pleasantly surprised, I wasn't exactly looking forward to them but seeing as I'm hammering the classics these are pretty important due to Ali becoming the first 3 time HW champ but they were enjoyable, Spinks was excellent in the first fight, he just wouldn't be denied just came out like a whirlwind and rarely stopped for breath,Ali spent most of the time spoiling or laying on the ropes and Leon battered him,ive gotta say though the last round was one of the best Ali took part in

Big difference in the rematch though,Ali was a lot better and Spinks looked flat,I know he was living the good life since becoming champ but Ali was much improved, always dancing a lot busier and won well, the last great performance of his career

I love to see those Mexican bantamweight brawls, man! I tell ya!

I just saw Ruben Olivares vs Chucho Castillo II. Castillo was better and busier this time around. A very underrated boxer that Chucho was. Both of them were something to watch, especially when they were throwing that left hook to the body. Olivares had a gash in his eyelids since round one. I think that cut, took out some of his concentration. Castillo saw the cut and started taking advantage of it by hitting that target. The fight was stopped by cuts and Chucho was the first man in history to beat Olivares and became world champion. I had it 126-123 for Chucho until round 14th. Unfortunately, fight #3 is not available on YouTube.

I also saw the first Rafael Herrera vs Ruben Olivares fight. From round one, it was all Rafael Herrera! He took the fight to El Puas. It seemed to me that Rockabye Ruben was kind of lethargic. He didn't have the same fire like in his early bantamweight title bouts. Rumor has it that he couldn't make the bantamweight limit anymore. Herrera stopped him with a left hook on top of Ruben's head in round 8. Still, Herrera beat him the second time in the rematch. This time at featherweight. Fight #2 between them is not available on YouTube.

Foreman v Dwight Qawi

An older George comeback fight. Foreman looks "trim" and strong here, on the other hand Qawi is the heaviest he has been in his career and it shows. He's out of breath after round 1 but keeps throwing looping bombs. I wonder how much he actually trained. Nonetheless this is a very entertaining fight. Solid work rate and clean landing action, even from a tiring Qawi. Given the genuine excitement of this fight, I'm upset that there is no Foreman/Tyson to look back on.

Always a pleasure to watch, great fight
Larry Holmes vs Gerry Cooney

Edit
Again I watched De La Hoya vs Whitaker and really was a great fight to the very end of the match. It is uncertain until the end.
I think that Whitaker had a better performance and unfortunately this time narrowly lost.

Pinklon Thomas v Tim Witherspoon. Great contest, great pace. Witherspoon started strong but then after round 2 looked to be slightly fading although it remained a close fight. Thomas put on a very controlled performance. Great use of his converted lefty jab. Controversy regarding how many times Pinklon thumbed Witherspoon. Slow mo replay clearly shows one although Witherspoon was constantly blinking throughout the fight.

Mike Tyson vs Pinklon Thomas
Fantastic energetic furious rounds 1 and 6 from Tyson. Rounds 3, 4, 5 become the frustrating Tyson experience that was on display quite often following his Rise. I don't know much about Pinklons history with drugs and whether he was using during training. Commentators praised Pinklon for "coming to fight", fight he did although i'm not convinced he was fully committed.

Manny Pacquiao vs Erik Morales 1,2+3

Incredible trilogy and defo up there with the greatest in the sports history,1st fight was an absolute war with the action swinging back and forth throughout,Morales deserving the win but it was close,he started off the rematch well too until Pacquiao started to break him down and eventually stopping him,the rubber match was a 3 round beatdown though and Morales looked spent, his hard career catching up with hin

The heart and spirit of both men is unbelieavable though

the first fight especially is epic, I sometimes wonder if Morales gets quite enough credit for it, because for me it's got to be one of the biggest 3 or 4 wins since the milennium. great crowd, too :TU:

Definitely. Hagler looked like he was in incredible shape for that fight, doubt many guys in history could have beat him that night.

That was a war of attrition, we don't get many battles like that anymore.

That fight was more than brutal. It doesn't have an adjective to describe it. I would not like to be in a fight like that if I were a boxer. 15 rounds of pure leather. That is the fight that graduated the great Evander Holyfield. :TU:
