I liked both coming in as true fighters but deplored them having to fight in the corrupt Vegas jurisdiction, so really a draw was a good outcome for both. There will be a rematch down the road, and of course the usual assjulios are already screaming Canelo ducking, grass green and sky blue. And yeah, as I have maintained for years, the 10 point must system is something some clever suits came up with knowing the overall low functioning level of the predominant boxing fan to keep them off balance never understanding how to score a fight.
I had the fight even after 7 rounds, coincidentally the last round I gave Golovkin. I had Canelo sweeping the last 4 of 5 with the 11th being even. If I give Golovkin the even rounds, then it's a draw which is why I score even rounds to understand where the controversy comes from. Canelo pulled out as full a boxing tool kit as has ever been seen, alternately boxing and moving, laying and countering off the ropes, fighting at ring center, forcing Golovkin on the back foot numerous times with showy shots, even stumbling him once that I credit the timing of the punch coming as Golovkin feet got crossed up, which brings another point. Canelo kept Golovkin off balance or out of range for most of the fight, alternately either placing ideal shots in or rattling off some eye catching combos. Nobody has yet to exploit Golovkin so well, so in actuality, it was Canelo getting robbed as many thought if it went the distance as the money fighter he wins the decision.
Golovkin has the air let out of his MONSTER balloon, but keeps his Zero and titles. He's lucky in that they could have stacked the deck with two more of the deplorable Byrds to have consensus 118-110 cards. Vegas is the biggest hoax in boxing as we have seen over the years, flattering he who need not be savaged by me for the umpteenth time now. It was a good fight, not a great fight because neither could really hurt the other, but they sure got in some stingers. I'll let their teams make the next moves.
To address the intelligible part of your post; I disagree with your minority assessment of the fight. However, I respect your opinion; especially given my positions on Krushedner v SOGgy I and Pac v Ramming Speed I.
I saw it pretty much the opposite of you in the final 5 which pretty much covers our scoring discrepancy. I give credit for GingerHead coming on, but I feel that 3G met every challenge and surpassed it, especially in rounds 10 and 12.
I am very much interested in a rematch in May. I think that this rivalry has the earmarkings of the Pac v JMM series. I think that GingerHead may have the confidence to engage more in the next installment, which could lead to a victory through stoppage in a real war early on.
I do not think that this fight was as close as the two aforementioned contests, or for that matter 3G v Jacobs.
