It means that you pay sanctioning fees, doing this keeps you high in tje ratings with more chance of fighting for their better titles

Enjoyed that fight a lot. He is learning defence and patience bit by bit. Metcalf has a good chin, got popped hard early and regrouped.
As for Povetkin, the dude was drained of legs from the start.
Agree , Cheesman is defo value for money ,, would worry about him if he was my son , will say he's one of them guys who i sincerly hope has a good rapport with his trainer , and will listen if they say time to pack it in ,,, He just gets hit a lot , and its not from lack of skills or anything , just that he's not head and shoulders above his competition so he will mostly be involved in wars , defo good value though
I think the big cheese has improved quite a bit and doesn't all out war with the opposition nowadays .
The fight itself was a great watch and I hope Metcalf is ok as IJL did him no favours at all , disgusting refereeing making him take a count .

His legs and chin are gone. Covid killed the remains of an athlete in the old man. Povetkin must retire.

Don't think not seeing his son since he's born is due to how serious he's took the camp , more how he does'nt give a fook ,, 4 months a multi millionaire could'nt hire a private jet and spend half a day travvelling to England , or just simply put the mother on a plane with the baby and bring her for a weekend ,, don't care if he's fighting King Kong , you don't need 7 days a week for 4-5 months ,,, In fact 7 days a week for 4-5 months would be highly detrimentral to a boxer called overtrained

Can't comprehend that ,, just could'nt see how any way in the world i would go 4 months without seeing my new born ,,,, Unless it was covid restrictions

I remember how bad Hasim Rahman looked in the ring walk vs Povetkin on the undercard of Haye vs Chisora - that was equally sad.
That fight wasn't on the undercard of Haye-Chisora.

I think what you have are 2 guys who are far better than the rest, but you then have 4 or 5 guys below that who are decent and would provide different challenges stylistically to the big 2.

For example I think AJ smashes Wilder but Ruiz (a fully fit Ruiz) will always be an issue for him. I think Fury plays with Ruiz.

Whyte poses more problems for Fury than he does for AJ.

It’s an interesting division for me, albeit not a great one.
I've heard this so often that I barely think about it, but honestly where has this come from? Whyte might give AJ more of a fight now, possibly. When you think of how highly regarded Whyte is in the division, why do people forget AJ absolutely pulverised him years ago? I'd be surprised if he won a round against Fury.

Povetkin is shot completely. No reflexes, no steadiness on his feet, no speed, no punch resistance. As his fan, I won't like to see him against anybody anymore, even Allen. It's time to retire.

Agree completely. He tried his best but looked absolutely terrible, he's finished. There must be plenty he can do in retirement now.

So far, I've not seen them all....but a much of the youtube interviews post this fight have not addressed the white elephant (no pun) which was how shot/ill was Povetkin. Not just with Eddie, but all the usual suspects of boxing experts. All just talk about how Pov was up for it and always trying to land the big one. Ridiculous

Couldn't agree more with you and other posters Stu - I'm a huge Donald McRae fan, but his two post-fight pieces for The Guardian are so poor by any standards, let alone his own. I know he's a fan of Whyte, but to just brush Povekin's condition under the carpet is appalling.

It was mate. Though to be fair my guess is that it's more about his clearly-stated attachment to Whyte rather than towing the company line... at least I hope that's the case!

Counter puncher I agree re Whytes physique/condition

Whether it was Covid, age or a combination of both...that was a frail old man Whyte bashed about....Why cant someone say how terrible he looked.

To think Costello and Bunce alluded (albeit briefly) that Warringtons mild covid might have had an impact on his showing (and I think they got the tone of that spot on) but hardly mention it for Povetkin, who was hospitalised and has looked obviously poor all week isnt good form...perhaps they'll mention it more this week....

I do feel bad singling out Costello and Bunce (I do love that show) but they were the only ones too mention Covid for Warrington.

Whether it was age, Covid or what Whyte did to him in August...that was physically no where near the same guy as the first fight

I hope so too! I like Whyte too his attitude to fighting and the way he's carved out a successful career despite his glaring technical deficiencies and in some ways very insecure, paranoid mental state (not surprising given his upbringing and past).

But it's the journalists responsibility to give a balanced, objective view as much as possible. I suppose its the way society going these days: you cannot trust the media to give a balanced view.

Bunce and Costello are stooges the same as anyone in their position. i expect nothing more from them I'm afraid.

the default Bunce position on everything is to take the stance that (in his view) best represents the franchise of British boxing, which has to be sold as hard as possible. Whyte's status as a potential contender/ black hat guy/PPV fighter/one of our many top heavyweight contenders/'UK boxing scene really thriving right now exciting times' salivate over an AAAAAAAAAAAA J rematch is something they feel they have to push.

In terms of Whytes future, I actually wouldnt mind seeing the Bryan fight....easy enough win but it crucially gives Wilder/Ruiz/Ortiz (the only other fighters I'm interested in seeing Whyte against) the chance to have an interim fight so we have no excuses.

That would strengthen his position to be the next inline for the Fury vs Joshua winner...if he can keep his WBC bauble and win the WBA title

Imagine if the roles were reversed and Whyte had been hospitalised with severe Covid in the run-up to the first fight, we’d never have heard the fvcking end of it. It would undoubtedly be widely ‘reported’ as being the primary reason he lost, wasn’t himself etc. But it gets completely glossed over for poor little Pov, who could barely make it into the ring without needing a rest.

In the third round he didn't land a single blow.
