If Fury runs 118-110 rings around Uysk and Joyce I'll be shocked, but as much as he should beat Whyte, Ruiz, Parker and others, he hasn't fought them to put it beyond doubt. Nor Joshua, obviously.

Talent at heavy isn't what it was in the '70s and '90s, and yet we saw way more big fights back then. If anyone today really is the division's outstanding fighter, clearing it should be pretty routine for them. I probably give Usyk and Joyce too much credit for their talents because they've shown willingness to accept any challenge next year.

Fury might well end his career as the undisputed greatest heavy of his era, but he needs to crack on. If he beats Uysk, Joyce, Joshua and Whyte in the next couple of years he'll have done it.

Also agree it would've been much harder to take Wilder winning! I'm in it for the fights, so if Fury doesn't go back to cans I'm cool with this. It's easy to be classy in winning, but at least he was, which is more than we all expected from Wilder.

Wilder is just an absurd and totally bizarre wacko.

Fury's Heavyweight Explosion gut sent shockwaves through the canvas, so he couldn't set. The ring was like jelly. And that's without Jerry Lawler hiding underneath it.

Not taking his shirt off until the last minute was smart from Fury, and I'm sure he left it on yesterday so that Wilder wouldn't sleep any better. The really sad thing is that Wilder redeemed himself to the point of resurrecting his career against other opponents, but threw it back away because he can't accept losing to Fury again.

wilder was already talking about retirement before the fight too. and took an absolutely brutal pounding. he is 36 and hasnt won in 2.5 years. i dont see how anyone could think he's a lock to easily blast away a top guy at this point

I think hes done. which is a massive shame because we never really figured out how good wilder is/was. only really fought fury and ortiz, who themselves are slightly unknown.

I really really hope wilder tries to fight whyte or AJ or both befor he is done. big fights, big coin, fair chance of going out with a win.

Guys, imagine, Fury lost only about 5 rounds out of 31 to Wilder.

Great fight, great drama.
Fury continued where he left off in the second fight, come forward, and beat up wilder.
Wilder was heavier, stronger, landing nice body shots in round 1, but left himself open to the head.

Wilder is such an enormous puncher. Knocked Fury down out of the blue with a punch to the forehead. Heart in mouth stuff from round 4.

I actually think both were too heavy, a little clumsy. But it was a slugfest so they prepared for it.

And Fury has totally switched styles for now. A come forward puncher, rather than a slick boxer. I'm not sure that it will suit him for other opponents.

Usyk (or an improved AJ) will still make for a great unification fight come late 2022!

I'd rather he just retires now. Tonight's performance was an absolute credit to both, and Wlad recognised that when he hung 'em up.

If Wilder carries on he'll either get more damaged than he already is, or he'll beat someone like Joshua and reinflate his ego to dangerous levels.

Tysons recovery powers are the best at heavyweight since Larry Holmes. He’s done Wilder now, he’s the better man that’s clear. That’s the best I’ve seen Wilder, by far and Fury took him clean out. So far it’s both men’s defining fight.

I want to see Fury beat both Usyk and AJ and pack it in. He’d be an ATG with those wins.

Totally agree Tommo, sometimes guys put in their best, even when they lose.

In case it gets overlooked, I think sugar-hill was great in the corner. Exactly the type of coach wilder would need. Fury brought him in but he wasn’t a yes man. Told fury straight was he needed to do… a real credit to kronk and his family

Probably but fury’s got his number. I’m glad he spoke about his bench press at the weigh in and lost. A reminder that weight lifters don’t make fights

Wilder reported in the Guardian sounding less insane than usual:

“I did my best, but it wasn’t good enough tonight,” said Wilder, who was taken to nearby University Medical Center afterward for evaluation as a precaution. “I’m not sure what happened.
